Vermont Hockey: Taking No Prisoners In 2012-2013

I found a cheap hotel in Burlington for the night, so I'm heading up to the game. I've never been before. Anything I should check out after the game?

Also, my ticket is right by the student section (section 14). I've been advised by a friend that wearing a UMass jersey is a bad idea at the Gut. I know this sounds really hypocritical coming from a UMass fan, but should I leave it at home or will I be fine? I don't mind if people verbally harass me. In fact, I kind of enjoy that, sick as it sounds. I don't want to get into a fight though.

Lastly, it seemed watching the feed that the rink wasn't to capacity last night. Also, section 14 looks like it probably has a terrible view. How strict is the Gut about where you sit? If I find an empty seat, can I take it, or will they have staff checking my ticket?

Thanks in advance.
Wear your jersey. Sit wherever you want.

Why don’t we play Faust? Really, not even in a non league game? /QUOTE]

My guess is it is because Faust is not coming back next year. No, I haven't heard any rumors, and I don't have any inside information. It just seems like a more likely scenarios than having 3 goalies on scholarship. Again, just a guess.

Oh my. Did a google search on Irwin. Here is what I found:

Looks like he might have been committed to Ohio State and lost his scholarship over this incident.

While an immoral act it was done for moral reasons as a black player on their team had racial slurs hurled at him by the player they beat up after the game in the stands. They were not just being meat heads.

really? What's not 'meat headed' about doing that off the ice? Racists are punks, and cowards, but you don't just take that into your own hands off the ice unless you're a meat head. Settle it on the ice.

Huh?? How is swinging and striking a 78 year old man not being a meat head? Martin Luther King would have handled it different.

Re: Vermont Hockey: Taking No Prisoners In 2012-2013

Isn't this a lot of recruits for one year? I wonder if anyone is leaving early.

Thomas Forgione(2013) 11-11-22
Brendan Bradley(2013) 8-45-53
Rob Hamilton(2013) 2-17-19
Mario Puskarich(2013) 27-27-54
Malcolm Mckinney(2013) 3-2-5
Michael Santaguida(2013)
Brad Ryan(2013)
Chris Muscoby(2013)
Kevin Irwin(Not sure)

Connor Anthoine(2013-2014)

Anthony Petruzzeli(2014)
Travis Blanleil(2014)
Dylan Plitt(2014-2015)
Drew Best(2015)

Re: Vermont Hockey: Taking No Prisoners In 2012-2013

Bradley is schedule to come in 2014 according to Ted Ryan, as is Drew Best. Currently, as least per Ryan, the incoming class looks like

Forgione F
Puskarich F
McKinney F
Hamilton D
Ryan D
Santaguida G

I don't actually see any info regarding Irwin and Muscoby from Ryan anyways.

We do know that UVM is losing 3 F, 1D and 1G. If Irwin and Muscoby are not coming the numbers look correct. Even if they are coming, there is no roster limit only a limit on scholarships, so it maybe just Sneddon trying to deepen the bench a little. Certainly, we have consistently been short on players in recent years due to injuries and the yearly player leaving. It maybe someone is leaving but, then again it maybe nothing.

Bradley, Muscoby, Ryan, Puskarich and McKinney are all '92 birthdates so they have to come next year. Heisenberg is showing potentially 10 coming next fall, but that is always subject to change, however bringing a couple extra to up the competition for icetime may not be a bad thing. Bradley & Puskarich have good numbers and could contribute some offense right away, as could Forgione. Irwin is having a good season in the USHL and would not be surprised if he comes next season too.. though color me skeptical of a player that goes up into the stand and picks a fight with a 79 year old grandpa.

Why can't we score 5 on 3? Coaching or players? Seems like an automatic kill for opponent.

Re: Vermont Hockey: Taking No Prisoners In 2012-2013

Shame last night they actually outworked BC for most of the game but as usual cant finish.

That 2nd goal was a terrible break as all 3 players were trying to do the right thing unfortunately it was at the same time.

BC is not the team they were and if not for some luck might have lost last night again.

Vermont got out skilled not outplayed, but isnt that been the norm the last 2 years.

Is it possible that Brickley could be leaving after this year? Injuries have certainly hurt his development so far. Would he be ready to play in the AHL next year? Its crazy to think that he is the same age as most of the freshmen coming in next year.

I thought that was the best game we've played at BC in a long time, we didn't play as conservative as we usually do on the road against a top opponent.

Has anyone heard about our non-conference for next year? With the reduction in conference games, I hope we can set up a couple of weekend series against top western teams.

Anything is possible. But Sneddon's only adding two forwards at most. No one has to be going anywhere. It maybe that he is just sick of having a short bench when the annual injury bug hits.

We have a crappy power play. There is no excuse for it. It is up to the players to execute what the coach tells them the way the coach tells them. Considering the lack of change in the style of the power play, despite sucking year after year I would say a lot of it falls on Sneddon. That said, a fair portion of the suckiness on the power play is a lack of creativity and that's a player issue. But the fact that the only change on the power play appears to be line changes... well that's 100% on Sneddon.

Time to switch things up and try other formations and styles.

The offensive creativity isn't their because their aren't but a few creative players. We have one puck moving defensmen with a shot. Also very few are willing to pay the price and those that are willing are the Bly ones who can literally get a shot through on net, yet we don't have finishers there to pounce on the loose pucks in front. If we don't make playoffs is there anyway the administration can keep Sneddon?

Yes they could keep him. They can do whatever they want. The creativity on the PP is a direct reflection on his defense only mentality. When you play in fear of making mistakes, you cant be creative. This team has plenty of skill. More than most in my opinion. Other teams in Hockey East are getting better, we are not. Northeastern will catch us here based on the final schedule strength and it will be same story different year with the only real improvement being in the net.

This probably makes me a bad fan, but I'm kinda hoping we lose our remaining games. I think it's probably the only thing that's gonna hammer home the point that Sneddon needs to go. Unfortunately, I don't see that happening if we simply miss the playoffs again. Based on how Maine's playing right now, I think a loss on Saturday is a good bet. And there's certainly a very good chance we'll lose our last 6 games against UNH, BU and BC. The wild card will be the two game series against Northeastern. While I could see us maybe taking a game (even a blind squirrel finds a nut every now and again), the series is on the road, thus making two losses a real possibility. Sadly, I hope we can lose out and that it'll generate some pressure to get rid of Sneddon. The program can't recover until he's gone.
