Re: Vermont 2013-2014 Season Thread : The Golden Year

Well, either UVM win's tomorrow and they move on to game three, or they lose and with a little luck it is the end of the Kevin Sneddon era at UVM. Potentially positive outcome either way.
Not trying to troll ... do UVM fans really want the coach gone? There's some good talent that's committed to UVM, he's recruiting well?

Some fans do. I've tried to support Sneddon but there are glaring issues. He certainly does not have the ability to put together a power play and that has hurt year after year. I believe Sneddon is a very good coach personally, but I think he is just off in being a coach that can put and KEEP this team in the upper tier. So the question is are we ok with being good some years and not good some years or is it the priority to be good all the time. I wouldn't want to get rid of Sneddon for an unknown. The story is they made some recruiting mistakes and that's why we have such a large freshman class. It appears we have more players coming again next year then are needed as well. He has another year on his contract I think so he gets another year to show that's true.

While I like this team and would hope they improve next season being some many freshman, this season has been better then expect in large part to McCarthy, and I haven't seen anyone who I think can replace what he is bringing right now...

So do fans want him gone? I think a lot do, but I don't think he is going anywhere. UVM doesn't really fire coaches. Gilligan had some pretty terrible years and was never canned.

Re: Vermont 2013-2014 Season Thread : The Golden Year

****, I thought his contract was up after this year. The bottom line is that over the last 5 years (including this one) he has had 3 terrible losing years, a year they went 17-15-7 and still made the NCAA somehow, and this year. Over 11 seasons he still doesn't have a winning record, this website says it is 166-187-56. His teams are undisciplined, his special teams are terrible, and it seems like every game we have a lead it is never, ever safe.

I guess if he somehow manages to have a winning season next year, I would not mind him signed to a very short term contract, but if not, having 4 losing seasons in the last 5 would just not be good enough to bring him back.

The power play is terrible, our PK is usually pretty good. This year we are second only to BC, but the Power play continues to suck to the point that if you watch most of the time it's just the first line out there.

My biggest issue is player development. He does recruit well but most of the players progress only slightly. McCarthy and Stalberg Sr. being two exceptions. Most make minor improvements, regress, or just flat out leave the program. With 4 years of strength and conditioning and coaching at a D-1 Level I would expect more progress over their college career.

Until we can get a power play that is halfway decent, and see more player improvement the team isn't going to take that next step. There is also the mental aspect, the number of players that leave is scary and if there is that negative energy in the locker room that's affecting the way they play. This years team seems to have changed that. Hopefully that will set the new standard going forward. All in all, I like the direction this years team seems to be headed in. I just want to see it continue and not go back the other way.

Re: Vermont 2013-2014 Season Thread : The Golden Year

With the way he's turned the team around, beginning with the second half of last season, there's no way Sneddon will not be offered another contract, and deservedly so. But whether he's the coach who can build the program into something even remotely resembling BC, that's another story. I think the jury's still out on that. And, of course, if the team goes back to sucking after the departure of McCarthy, there will be a lot of people calling for his head again, myself included. With all due respect to Sneddon, that's just part of being a coach.

Not sure what Paliota was thinking last night. There was no need to interfere as the guy was alone and Pal had help. I can understand
a frustration penalty thou you hate to see them but to do that in the last 2 minutes was mindboggling. The UVM asst coach called the
penalty soft on the post game but watching it live it looked textbook to me. True the hit on Bruneateu might have deserved more but
you cant put yourself in that spot to let the ref make that call especailly when there wasnt much danger of the other team scoring.

Otherwise great road effort, again as in the last three years the Cats couldnt get the goal to give them a 2 goal lead and they had some
chances. The first 10 mins of the 3rd they did a great job of not letting Lowell get any good breakouts but things changed after the tying
goal.

Does UML practice shooting of d-mens feet to deflect pucks to a guy on the otherside? Twice in 3 games they have got one of these to happen
at the end of a game.

All the UML guys are crying in the UML thread about the UVM band playing last night. Actually almonst half of the talk is about our band more the
game itself. They cant believe teams can bring a band. Considering how close most of the HE schools are I am surprised that doesnt happen
more often. They should see what it was like to have Clarkson or Cornell's band come to town and then they would love to see our little bunch.

Not close to trolling... you want to see trolling just check posters that start with "Pat" ;)

Walls back to putting himself in the box ...again. I still prefer Muscoby...

Re: Vermont 2013-2014 Season Thread : The Golden Year

An SLU win would be a big help, Clarkson a bit...NMU would be good too. Michigan is going to move back up as they are up big on MN

I hope our coach screams and cries to the officials so that we can get some horrifically, obviously wrong calls tomorrow. Hit with a puck and called a high stick. It'd be funny if it didn't cost Lowell a game they dominated.

Get the sand out of your.....well, I'll let you fill in the blank. You know how many games this year UML got their a**es outplayed, yet still won because their goalie stole the game? Hoffman stole it. It happens. UML couldn't capitalize on their chances. I'm not surprised either.

Very few, actually. I'll take my word for it, having seen probably two dozen more Lowell games than you have.

It's ok to say "we got a gift goal on a bogus power play and still won." I can honestly say Lowell outplayed Vermont by a nautical mile and lost. Not that I would expect Vermont fans to have that kind of insight.

Like I said before, I enjoy your delusional perspective.

Sucks when your goalie fails to steal a game, eh? Without him, Lowell wouldn't even be a ranked team this season. Oh. Wait. Maybe that's a delusional statement? You tell me ;-)
