Vermont 2013-2014 Season Thread : The Golden Year

Re: Vermont 2013-2014 Season Thread : The Golden Year

UVM averaged 4.5 GAA against BC compared to UML's 2.5 GAA against BC, and held the Gaudreau line to 2 goals all weekend instead of 4 like UVM.
UVM also averaged 1 gpg against Providence and UML averaged 5 gpg against them.

What does it all mean? It means I can pick cherries too.

The most recent comparisons probably mean more then those from months ago....

And I'm not sure how you figure UVM held the Gaudreau line to 4 goals? Looks to me like that line got 1 goal on Friday and 1 on Saturday... but then facts and details should never get in the way of a Lowell fans post.

Months ago? Vermont played BC last week. Did the Vermont defense suddenly change since then? I did quote some numbers from UVM against BC defensively, or did you ignore those because they don't fit your argument?

As for the other point - Gaudeau, Arnold, and Hayes each scored a goal in the second game. But again, who bothers with facts and details? http://www.hockeyeastonline.com/men/boxes14.php?mbc_ver1.f15

Here's one more fact for you. Lowell has a winning record all-time at Gutterson Fieldhouse, 8-7-4.

Re: Vermont 2013-2014 Season Thread : The Golden Year

The last two weeks Vermont and UML both played the same team BC.

Vermont gave up 9 and scored 6.....-3 goal dif
UML gave up 5 and scored 2..........-3 goal dif

Vermont has scored at least 2 goals in its last 13 games.

Weekend means more to UVM as far as NCAA berth goes and unless UVM sweeps dont look like either teams seed in HE will move much unless
the other series have crazy results

Oddly, if that's the case the two teams would play each other again right away (assuming UVM beat the play in opponent). I think we play BC back to back last year too?

Re: Vermont 2013-2014 Season Thread : The Golden Year

Lowell is better in every statistical category, with the exception of the PK. There, you can have one.

You score less than Lowell. You give up more goals per game than Lowell. Your goaltending is LIGHTYEARS behind EITHER of Lowell's goalies. Your power play is worse. Your record is worse. Your team is worse.

And now this from the UML thread

"Vermont's up next. Catamounts have been playing very, very well. I think a split is the most obvious outcome, but I wouldn't be shocked to see either team take 3 points. I would be shocked if either team swept. Lowell has had a good run in the Bazin era up in Burlington, but Vermont has a killer top line and the best freshman in the conference. "

Funny how we now might even take 3 points when we are so inferior in vertually every catagory.

1. It's spelled "virtually".
2. You might take anywhere from 0-4 points. My comment was on what results I expect and what results would shock me. Vermont has been strong at home. If this series is at the Tsongas it's a Lowell sweep.
3. If the team who was better on paper won every game, BC would be undefeated and there wouldn't be any reason to play out the season.
4. Thanks for reminding me why it's both worthless and a waste of time to say anything nice about Vermont.

1. Its spelled "Two Faced"
2. Vermont is actually 2-6 at home in HE and 7-3 on the road winning its last 5.
3. Now thats original.
4. Wasnt nice just the truth, the fact that it was not what you would rather say doesnt make it nice.

As pointed out UVM actually has been playing better on the road and BC is "virtually" undefeated.

Re: Vermont 2013-2014 Season Thread : The Golden Year

Does anybody remember the Pairwise rankings last week? Two loses to BC didn't hurt much but two wins against Merrimack did really help did it? BTW - What happened to Merrimack? Makes me wonder how much of college hockey boils down to recruiting. Da Costa and Cannata graduate = Merrimack's demise?

I'm hoping for a split (or better) this weekend and I think that's realistic.

Re: Vermont 2013-2014 Season Thread : The Golden Year

BTW, as much as I hate to say it (because of the country, not the school) congrats to UVM on their two gold-medal winners.

That's big of you dude. It's clearly tough for you to indirectly admit that there are nice things that can be said about Vermont.

I'll pile on for you. Your coach is a class act and I find the city of Burlington to be delightful.

whoa whoa whoa... this is no way to have a flamefest.... WTHeck, I hope you aren't expecting me to say I like Lowell.

I love Vermont. My wife was born in Montpelier and went to school in Burlington. My FIL worked for Perry Merrill in the forestry department for 30+ years. I love spending time up there visiting friends.

The only drawback is jcarter.

My memory maybe failing me but I believe the two losses to BC resulted in a drop from 11th to a tie for 13th. The two wins bumped us back into a tie for 11th. Part of the reason is their is a road win bonus... so that helped regarding MC. The key at this stage is RPI and you have to remember what the teams around you are doing as well. For example last week UVM was in a tie with ME and Michigan. Michigan lost and ME got a win and a tie and those two teams fall behind UVM instead of being tied.

This weekend PC and ME play and they are 16th and 17th... one will get bumped up and one will drop. If UVM loses, but so does ND, Cornel, and the Sue it won't matter... If UVM wins and those teams lose UVM could bump even further...

So losses and wins by the teams around us matter as much as what UVM actually does.

Re: Vermont 2013-2014 Season Thread : The Golden Year

I am super excited for this weekend. Really hope the student section is in full force and that the Gut is rockin'.

Anybody want to speculate about who is going mind the net?

I'll take a stab and say Santa... Hoff got the starts against MC and although he was solid nothing spectacular. Santa lost both to BC but he was decent in net. Numbers are almost identical in conference play however Santa has a winning record and Hoff does not. I think Hoff is a more steadfast and solid tender the Santa right now, however Santa plays the puck more, is more agile and quick. I think Sneddon will be looking to be as quick and up tempo as possible and I think Santa is able to make that happen more so then Hoffman. That said, Lowell seems to score most of their goals off rebounds and I think Hoff does a bit better at rebound control then Santa. Now I'm less sure then when I started posting... flip a coin I guess.

Re: Vermont 2013-2014 Season Thread : The Golden Year

UVM has been playing well, period. Even counting those two losses against BC. (Will be interesting who gets the start in net - I'd go with Hoffman)

Not that i'd rather them play on the road, but UVM is only slightly better than a .500 team at the Gutt (7-6-2) while their record on the road is 10-5-1. On paper, it should be a split this week. Anything more than 2 points for either team is gravy (although UVM needs the points more).

The most likely scenarios has UVM finishing 6/7/8 (BC:1, ME/NE/UML some combination of 2/3/4, with PC looking to have the upper hand on 5). UVM will win the tie breaker with UNH and right now holds the tie break with ND. I don't think there is much differenc between 6/7 (6 would, most likely, have you play MC while 7 would, again most likely, play BU) but you want to avoid the 8th seed at all cost. Not because of UMass in the 8/9 matchup, but big brother BC in the next round (at their rink).

11th (tied) in the pairwise doesn't make me feel great about getting in the NCCA's. Two many conference tourney's would need to go "chalk". And how does someone like Maine (17th pairwise) not get in with their conference record over UVM.
