Look for the older one to come too...

That's a good get for you guys. Alexx can play when he keeps his head on straight and stays out of the box/dressing room. Haven't seen Jarrid play so I have no clue about him but certainly a good pickup.

Re: Vermont 2013-2014 Season Thread : The Golden Year

The two bigger weekends are at UNH and at UML. Both ranked teams, both on the road so they get the bonus points for wins. Although a "bad" home loss at MC would be devastating....

UNH is below UVM in pairwise so a win on the road there would only move them .0025 points due to it being last 3rd of games on schedule and common opponent wins on the road favor UNH. They would have to sweep just to maintain their RPI status and actually it could go down should Maine split with Notre Dame so I think I am right in saying that one loss in either of those series will effectively eliminate their chances of being an at large bid.

Re: Vermont 2013-2014 Season Thread : The Golden Year

The way pairwise works as you move to the back half of the season can be confusing but it basically comes down to this: You usually need a 12 ranking or above to make the tourney. The loss to BU was VERY costly. One loss to Merrimack or New Hampshire will effective eliminate their chances unless they sweep BC. Tall order but it could happen.

I agree. I was surprised how much we moved down in the pairwise last weekend. We haven't technically had a '4 point weekend' yet this year. We need a couple and splits with BC/UML at this point.

Also... "UVM head coach Kevin Sneddon cannot comment on a recruit until the student-athlete has signed an NCAA letter-of-intent and been admitted to the university." Does Sneddon really say much of anything these days? He used to give us a one liner on players. Doesn't seem to be the case lately. I'd like to know the expectation on players coming in. Something like 'So and so is a 4th liner but with hard work he could see regular time on a better line.'

Sneddon doesnt know how they play until they get here. He never goes out and recruits. I know of multiple players he never saw play until they arrived at UVM. He leaves that up to his underlings.

Read the quote again: Sneddon cannot comment ... If he does so before the letter of intent is signed, he is in violation of NCAA recruiting rules; if he does so before the player is admitted to UVM, he is in violation of university rules. Once everyone is signed and admitted, UVM puts out a release with his comments. It's not a question of whether he wants to comment but that he can't without facing possible sanctions.

I'm pretty sure he was talking about when Sneddon actually can comment without breaking the rules... that he still doesn't really give out any info.

Re: Vermont 2013-2014 Season Thread : The Golden Year

Cats moved up to 10th in RPI due to Umass win over colgate. Ahead of UML. Lol

Jcarter should go mouth off in their thread

It'll drive Goon and Patronick back to the mental hospital

Just to update the current RPI for those of you keeping score at home:

Lowell - 7th
Vermont - 19th

Look boys and girls Mr Fair weather fan is back.

Here a quote from Patrondick posted a few weeks ago in his own team thread about his beloved UML

"Another embarrassing performance. Here's hoping they can somehow manage to get home ice, but I wouldn't hold my breath. "

Funny how fast he switches gears week to week. Guy sure needs to get some better meds......and a life.

Re: Vermont 2013-2014 Season Thread : The Golden Year

I took a stab at predicting the rest of the HE season to kind of get a idea how many points it would take UVM to finish here or there
and here is my predicted finish

Team/Points

BC 33
UML 26
Maine 25
NU 24
UNH 21
Prov 20
UVM 19
ND 16
UMass 14
BU 12
Merrimack 10

This puts homeice at 24 points - we would need to be about 7-1 to get it so that doesnt look good
5th place to avoid playin game at 21 points - we would need to go about 5-2-1 possible but a longshot schedule considering
6th thru 8th to host playin game 16 points - we would need to go 3-5 which I sure hope we do.

A good goal would be 6th place not only to get homeice for the playin but to avoid BC and whoever is hot enough
to grab 2nd place in the quarters.

Re: Vermont 2013-2014 Season Thread : The Golden Year

Unh will win out their next 6- those points will put them above NU and maine.

Re: Vermont 2013-2014 Season Thread : The Golden Year

This program has come along way under Coach Sneddon. The grass is always greener fans. Give him a new barn and let's see what he can do. Until then any coach is working with less than a full hand. I like this freshman class.

This freshman class may actually save Sneddon's bacon. This team this year is much better than I expected. I am not sure I want him to stay as I do think a change is greener grass based on the last 8 years of crappy hockey. I will say Sneddon has started to drop the defense only philosophy this year, it seems, which actually may be because the offensive talent is that much better this year. So the turnaround could really be attributed to the new assistant coaches that do the recruiting and are starting to pay dividends. It is a tough call. We will see how this season plays out. They still have trouble winning the games they should which clearly falls on the coaching staff.

Interesting, but which two games do you think BC will lose? I also don't see ME beating either ND or NU on the road, considering they are 1-6-2 on the road, so I don't think they are coming anywhere close to those points. NU has 6 games, two against UMA, two against BU and two against ME at home... That's at least a 5-1 record if not 6-0.

This is what I would predict :

BC 37pts
NU 29pts
UNH 26pts
UML 25pts
UMO 22pts
PC 21pts
ND 19pts
UVM 18pts
BU 10pts
UMA 9 pts
MC 6pts

This leaves PC v. MC, ND v. UMA and UVM v. BU as the play in games. Should things work out as expected you would then have BC v. UVM , NU v. ND, UNH v. PC and UML v. ME.

Couple of things that stick out to me, UVM wants to gain the points to get ahead of ND. No one wants to play BC in a 2 out of 3 game series. You may catch lightening in a bottle once, but not twice. ME really wants to move up into a home ice spot. Their record sucks on the road but is stellar at home. Home ice almost assures them of a trip to the Garden.

Re: Vermont 2013-2014 Season Thread : The Golden Year

too many opportunities lost, they should be battling for fourth, not 6th

Any thoughts on the Privitera brothers? I think this is good news

One thing I have noticed in HE is that there are always a few upsets every weekend so even thou some teams shouldnt lose to the bottom teams
it always seems to happen. I say this as the BU team we dominated last game is giving BC all it can handle.

Re: Vermont 2013-2014 Season Thread : The Golden Year

UNH this weekend, the Wildcats come in at 16-13-1 overall (0.533%) v. UVM's 13-9-3 (0.520%). Versus common opponents UNH sports 6-2 record v. UVM's 6-4 record. And the two teams are within 3 spots of each other in the PWR. On paper UNH appears to have a very slight edge over UVM, however UNH has suffered injuries to some key players while UVM has had a week off to regroup, refresh, and focus on UNH. As such I'm going with a split...UNH on Fri with UVM winning on Sat.

It will be interesting to see if UVM continues the goalie rotation.

One last thought, UVM is playing in 33 games this season, compared to UNH who plays 36. UNH has a game exemptions due to the ice breaker, but UVM is still one shy of the allowed games limit? Does this hurt them with regards to the potential post season aspirations? And why does the ice breaker get an exemption... seems a bit unfair...

Seems like a good pick up. Privitera Jr is scoring at almost a PPG in the USHL and Sr. is exactly at a ppg. The elder had 26 points in 48 games in his two years at BU, so I he can step in and obviously be a productive D-man right from the get go.

I have to think they both will be productive players...

Older one has had some problems but we like that here.
