Verbal commitment process needs change?

You're naive if you don't think this stuff already goes on to some extent. When kids are thinking of "decommitting", it usually isn't without some encouragement going on from a coach at another school that wants him. They just aren't as frontal about it as football and basketball coaches are.

I have to imagine you are right. How many kids are willing to decommit from a program without knowing what other teams are interested in them.

Re: Verbal commitment process needs change?

You should not be able to offer scholarships to players more than 2 incoming classes away. Meaning that today 13-14 is incoming, so you can not start 15-16 just these past couple of weeks. These kids take verbal commitments as security blankets, the mean nothing. They all still continue to look and see what is out there. I am so turned off by college hockey, I used to love it.
