UW vs UMD... no outrageous predictions this week.

Re: UW vs UMD... no outrageous predictions this week.

I had no idea. Calm would have been a better word to use to make your post more understandable, but if you want to sound smart, good job. Instead you sounded pompous.

Well, buy a dictionary, son. Also, please choose: did I sound smart or pompous?

It is not too good to be true. You will sweep us tomorrow. I have seen the future. I also wrote a song called Maroon and Gold.

Re: UW vs UMD... no outrageous predictions this week.

Who cares if he ticked him off? That's not an excuse. Don't justify it. I don't care what he did. Well, I do care, because if Chad did something similar to someone else I'd be upset at him, too. However, there is no excuse for taking a run at a guy when the game is almost over and knocking him unconscious.

I mentioned this in the game thread. I totally agree.

Re: UW vs UMD... no outrageous predictions this week.

That guy must have really ticked him off.

We can't assume what the motivation was.......The guys are taught to play 60 minutes, not 55 as Anstinator said in the game thread. Is Geffrion a bad guy for blasting in another goal with less than a minute to go? I say you never call off the dogs, er badgers, until the prey is dead. Rammer got a penalty, it's over.

Even though UW had 51 sog, UW didn't have more than a few grade A chances. On the goals that went in, 1 was an empty netter, 1 was a screen (Gardiner), 1 he should have stopped (Smith) and 2 he had no chance on.

The 2 goals UW let in were because of horrible D zone coverage. The first goal was a 3 on 2 backdoor down low Goody almost got. The 2nd was a 2 on 1 backside goal as well. On that one B Smith got caught going up ice too far to soon and Rammer was the only one back. Goody made an insanely great save on a similar play later in the 1st period.

I think it will be a similar game to the Saturday night CC game where UW clobbered them good Friday and CC bounced back and played a great game Saturday. This time UW needs to win that bounce back game.

Re: UW vs UMD... no outrageous predictions this week.

Sounds like Ramage might be getting a call from the league office.

"Looked like he took a run at Huttel and went right for the head. Knocked him out. No idea on his condition."

Does anyone have video of the hit? I didn't see it but what I've read is that Rammage went for a check and the Bulldog ducked and took it in the head.

EDIT: Anyone know whether Rammage got a Misconduct or DQ?

The UMD radio guys announced it as a misconduct.

Re: UW vs UMD... no outrageous predictions this week.

where is that quote from? the radio guys?

I wish I had seen the game. sounds like the refs were letting things go early which led to cheapshots toward the end

Late in the 3rd, UMD goalie flipped the puck down the ice after a whistle. Annbody have a problem with Anderson getting in his mask and dropping 35 F-bombs and telling him that was BS? If you have a problem with it, call something. This is why people hate you.

Yeah...that's what Bruce Ciskie the UMD radio guy posted on my twitter.

Re: UW vs UMD... no outrageous predictions this week.

Watched the game on Charter 87, which is always an adventure. They picked up the local Duluth feed (which is fine in concept), but like the broadcasts at Mankato, the sound was terrible all game long plus other issues.

I don't expect a FSN quality production, but it was closer to a high school cable access game with the sound/camera-work/graphics. And for the love of God, it's Gudmanson, not Gundmanson. It's Aaron Bendickson, not Aaron Ben-Dickson. The play-by-play guy butchered those names (plus Grotting) all game long (at least when the sound was on).

Things clearly got real tense after Geofferion scored the 5th goal (not that is wasn't tense all game long), but I don't remember seeing a replay of the Ramage hit so I don't how if/how vicious it was. However, a Badger got nailed in the back and into the boards earlier in the third which resulted in a 5-minute power (which we couldn't convert!).

The smaller ice sheet makes for a frantic game with odd bounces and quick transitions. It's fairly entertaining when you're on the winning end of a game like that.

It would be a big statement for the Badgers if they could complete the sweep tonight.

Re: UW vs UMD... no outrageous predictions this week.

Yeah...that's what Bruce Ciskie the UMD radio guy posted on my twitter.
The UMD radio guy made it sound like it was the cheapest hit he had ever seen and that Ramage should be booted tonight, the WCHA should suspend him from ever playing again, the U of W should withold any scholarship money from him, and Planned Parenthood should prevent him from ever having children. I thought the radio guy was a little overzealous in his description BUT I didn't see it, and he did. But it also did sound like he didn't think the refs had a very good night.

The production crew, etc and the on-ice interviewer are all students from Bethany College in Mankato. The play-by-play and color guys are not however. Color guy is former Bulldog Judd Medak and he is a homer, although I thought he was complimentary of Wisconsin all night and wasn't too hard on the refs - he didn't even try to argue the checking from behind call thank God. And he rightfully blasted Davies for the high stick dive. Should have been 2 for the highstick and 2 for unsportsmanlike there.

I'm confused on who everyone is talking about because some are talking about the tUMD radio guys (why are you listening to the Bulldog feed or were you watching B2?) and some the TV guys.

Anyway, here's to a better showing by tDogs tonight.

Re: UW vs UMD... no outrageous predictions this week.

Outside of the constant mis-pronouncing of Gudmanson, Bendickson and Grotting, I didn't really have any issues with the TV announcers. They really weren't any more homers than any other local-based announcers.

That's an interesting fact with the production crew. Definitely explains a few things. With that said, it's no excuse for terrible sound and spotty camera work. This is still a WCHA hockey broadcast, not a tape-delay JV game between Warroad and Roseau. Raise your standards.....

I think a lot of Badger fans were listening to the free online feed. You have to purchase Badger radio feeds online. So a lot of Badger fans listened to Ciskie last night.

In fairness, Cerniglia(on the radio) pronounces it Ben-DICKson, while Posick pronounces it BENdickson. Who's right? Cerniglia has day-to-day interaction with the team and Posick obviously has a lot of contact also.

The GOOD-manson thing is harder to forgive. Hooked on Phonics baby!

Re: UW vs UMD... no outrageous predictions this week.

I'm unsure why people are expecting FSN-level production quality from a school whose only D1 sport is hockey and whose only televised games (and there are very few of them) are hockey games. A few years ago we didn't even have that. Sometimes the B2 feed is just a single camera that kind of follows the action end to end. We don't have the glitz or the money or the audience to demand anything else. I'm sorry your school doesn't provide anything better, and I'm kind of surprised they don't, but from what I understand FSN Wisconsin would rather show Bucks games.

Let's just move on from the whining about production quality and vote on what we think the final score will be. What did I say yesterday, Chuck? UW 1, UMD -27. Or something. I shall revise that to UW 2, UMD -13.

Yes, you had UW 1, UMD -27.

Apparently Cerniglia- Just picked this up off the AP:

(AP Newswire- Duluth, Minnesota)- A source within the Department of Home Security confirmed today reports of an individual with possible Al Qaeda connections playing hockey. The Canadian prime minister has reportedly been alerted.
The reports revolve around one "Aaron bin Dickson" a student at the University of Wisconsin- Madison. It is well known that al queda has long sought to send their operatives to be educated at only the most superior western universities, so obviously UW would be their first choice.
An unnamed official deep within the administration was quoted as saying "I was watcing the game on that crappy charter extra thing when I'm like "Holy Crap! This guy has that bin thing in his name just like that other dude! I immediately contacted FBI and confirmed he was, in fact, on one of our lists of people from Minnesota. Obviously we're extremely suspicious of anybody that would openly state that they are originally from Minnesota, let alone people that actually live there. This evidence suggests to me a terrorist cell is probably operating in Minnesota and likely is attempting to teach Yemeni's to power skate and do that Gretzky puck flipping thing."
As a result Homeland Security officials further confirm they are sending a strike force, including elements of the 82nd Airborne and the 101st armored division to destroy Thief River Falls, MN, bin Dickson's alleged home base.

//This is a developing story. //

Re: UW vs UMD... no outrageous predictions this week.

Was that really a surprise though? I mean many of the terrorists in that part of the world do live in or on top of mountains.

We're extremely fortunate to have a "state-wide" broadcast of tUMD hockey. I would venture a guess there were no more than 6 people (including me and the wife) watching the game in the entire state of Minnesota (outside of the Duluth/Range area). The quality sucks, but it's better than B2 and definitely better than listening on the radio.

The radio color guy is the strength and conditioning coach at tUMD so he is obviously an extreme homer. I often wonder why they don't have a "professional" opposite Ciskie but I'm sure the answer is $$$.

Re: UW vs UMD... no outrageous predictions this week.

The audio issues may not be at the rink. What was the audio doing?
