UVM Offseason 2021: Well, That Was Weird

So I think that shores up the blue line a lot more.

Goalies looks like Harmon, Carriere and Hudson (3)

Defense: Kelly (?), Long, Petrello, Lucas, Schiavon, Riedell, Babichuk, Leahy, Finley, Munzenburger(?), Barnett (?) (7 to 11)

Forwards: Hamre, Jordan, Comeau, Bouqout, Lemay, Zaperinick, A Tinling, D Tinling, Vitolins, Mountain, Tarkieinen, Jellus, Walther, Schachle, Buyalsky, Maatta (16)

Could be more changes a few of the younger recruits might come next year, but the max amount right now is 30 players potentially

LOVE THIS!!! Was wondering when the millions of players in the transfer portal was going to start to pay off for us. Sounds like these guys could be a big help next year. Would be cool to see if they could find another experienced forward in there as well. Mullin was great for this team last year and there is sure to be someone else who could help them. Wise and DeBoer from BU or TJ Walsh from Northeastern are all guys who have showed promise in the past but just need more of an opportunity. Is there a place where the list of players in the portal can be found?

Based solely on the EP pages I really hope the coaches wait on Muenzenberger and Barnett for a year. Neither of those guys are ready yet. Barnett was playing the MAJHL last year. Not exactly elite level development hockey.
 
Yeah those two are almost certainly going to be a year away now that we have some actual depth in numbers now. Most of the blueliner recruits of ours are 2022 at the earliest; we needed numbers now

Per Marshall Kramsky (MyNBC5), Kelly is returning, the only senior to do so. So that leaves UVM with 9 expected d-men if Finlay's coming this year. So seems Luca will get a year in NA juniors before coming.

Damn...Would love to have had Harmon for another year. Back to the portal! Or maybe they can hold open tryouts for the 3rd goalie spot lol.

I think also part of it too is, what does the staff think of Cole Hudson? Do they see him in the Feeley/Beck role, or do they think he's a bona fide #2? Or perhaps they actually want to have 3 usable goalies in case of emergency? Most of the guys in the portal either are trying to transfer up to win, or transfer down for playing time. We're not ready to win yet (this is a long-term rebuild), and with Carriere I'm not sure how much playing time will actually exist for some of these guys.

In terms of guys currently in the portal that have been reported, with 1 year left of eligibility (assuming the Swedish kid Mangbo is a 2022 which I *think* he is, so you're just looking for a filler guy now)... it's mostly AHA/low end ECAC guys (Brian Wilson, Eric Ferland, Luke Kania), the UAA guys (since they're probably cooked although I hope they somehow survive!), and unused third goalies. And then Galajda, but he is certainly looking for a contender, which we are not.
 
I think the Cats have done pretty well in the portal. Riedell would've been a great add, but it is what it is. Stucker seems like a player with something to prove. Definitely motivated by the chance to get a pro deal. I'd imagine he is only here for a year.
 
Jeff Hill headed to Switzerland to be goalie coach for SC Bern, and Mark Stuart is strongly linked with a paid assistant gig (he's a volunteer here) at Colorado College. Some shuffling amongst the staff.
 
Sounds like RPI's Scotty Moser will be coming to UVM to fill the paid assistant vacancy.

Also, HE dropping today that everyone makes the tournament this season, so there'll be postseason hockey for UVM once more.
 
Congrats to incoming recruit Cole Hudson, as his Shreveport Mudbugs won this year's NAHL Robertson Cup. Hudson went a perfect 9-0 in the playoffs with a 1.54 GAA and .941 SV%, and was named playoff MVP!
