The first night of the NHL playoffs was a good one for UVM Alum. 20 different players scored goals Wednesday night. 10 of them played college hockey before going pro. 3 of them played for the Cats, more than any other school.

UVM - 3 (Mitchell, Stalberg, Sharp)
North Dakota - 2
BU - 1
Dartmouth - 1
Maine - 1
Michigan State - 1
Wisconsin - 1

Yvan Pattyn named captain for next season.

I like it... kid never misses a game, seems a good character on the ice (I have no off ice/ locker room context obviously).

I agree. Good for him! While not flashy, he's been dependable and was among the first wave of players who really turned things around.

I agree....good choice. Apparently a calm guy to deal with freshman and team issues. Has to be better then Paliotta was. I hope they make assistant captains this year to help with the leadership.

I believe coach Sneddon's contract expires tomorrow ( April 30) Must be some interesting negotiations to have it drag out this long.

Have to look back but I'm pretty sure it was reported his contracted has been extended for another 2 years??

I think it was back in January that they extended him for an additional year. I hope it wasn't 2....

With any luck seeing if St Louis retires and then brings in a few classes from Quebec :D

The deal is done and has been UVM probably waiting for spring sports to end and probably the school year to announce no idea how many years but it probably was 2 at least because why extend a guy to another lame duck year wonder what his new salary will be too if he gets a big pay raise that is a concern because that means more money to buy him out if the team goes back to struggling again.
Also please with the St Louis becoming the coach because that is never happening. also of this team talk also as far as Quebec goes pretty sure there are new rules where NCAA teams can contact or at least send mail/letters of interest to Canadian kids earlier prior to CHL drafts so if they really want players they can inform them of interest earlier the thing for the UVM staff they must stop doing is getting commitments from a kid at 16 and defer him til he is 20 especially any Quebec kid they'll ditch and go to QMJHL it has happened to them twice before they have some Quebec kids committed like all the 16 year olds lets see who shows up if they don't at 18-19 chances are they never will at all.

Contract goes through 2017-18 (3 years).

Just for clarification to those that are purests, They are Alternate Captains, not Assistant Captains, though most people call them Assistant Captains.

Ok fine I find it funny so many people here think it is possible just like the people who thought Aaron Miller would leave his sweet life owning restaurant chains to be an assistant for the team because hey he is alum and lives here and played in NHL. Down the road I would love to see an alum at the helm (anyone but Joe Gaspo) but it is not likely going to be any of the NHL guys, Ducharme coaches in QMJHL right now and he probably on pro route but maybe someone else not sure of many other alums beside Gary Wright and Bill Kangas in coaching right now and they are obviously pretty up there in age.
