UVM 2014-2015: Let's Play 10 Games in Massachusetts this Season

Re: UVM 2014-2015: Let's Play 10 Games in Massachusetts this Season

I don't see why they can't just renovate it like they did at Fenway and are doing at Wrigley. Yes it is an old barn but there have to be some upgrades that can make the place better without a full on replacement. This is what good architects and engineers are for...

Cushioned seats would be a good start. To be honest my arse can't take sitting on that old plank, and no matter how many coats of paint get put on it, it's not any softer.

And while the students might get a little rowdy I wouldn't mind having a beer while watching the game. I will agree that I like the guys we have, who stick around for 4 years and develop as a group. That said, I'd still like to be able to enjoy 120 minutes of hockey every week and right now by the second period on Saturday my arse and back are killing me.

Give me a break... Union's rink is half the size of the GUT and they seem to be doing great. I personally wouldn't want to see beer at UVM games either. I'm not saying I don't want an updated rink, but that's not the sole key to getting higher profile recruits. And I'm skeptical the program really needs higher profile recruits. The program is headed in the right direction, games are fun to watch.

Perhaps if the rink was big enough it would attract attention from an ECHL team and then they can have all the beer and flashy lights and junk they want. I like when I go to a UVM game it's about the hockey, for the most part. The McDonald's minute, and Child Travel power play... slightly obnoxious but whatever. That's the way things are going.

I'm happy about the fact that for the most part UVM brings in student athletes that complete their degree and frequently earn 'honor roll' status. Makes me proud as an alumni.

It's funny how everyone is up Unions ### now. There top player didn't even stay 4 years he's currently playing in the AHL. I'll I was trying to say is wouldn't it be nice to see players in our barn like a Johnny Gaudreau (3 years at BC) or a Jack Eichel(probably 1 year). A new barn could give us the possibility of getting players like that where as the gut does not. You can't tell me that a kid with talent like that would choose UVM over BU or BC.A new rink gives us that opportunity to compete for players of that caliber and who's to say that these kind of kids aren't scholars. They may only stay for two or three years but maybe they are a great student and just have a better opportunity in pro hockey. I also think that if we did get players like that you wouldn't be complaining about the possibility of winning a national championship. I'm sure you would be less proud to be an alum of a college hockey champion because that kid didn't stay after the final game of his junior year right? I'm not saying that a new barn brings us a national championship but it would definitely be nice to have a beer sit in a comfy seat with a good view and watch a johnny gaudreau type skate up and down the ice.

Don't know what the thinking is there, but it's already undergone a major renovation once. I suspect that with the money it would take to renovate again, we might as well just build a new place. Personally, I'd love to see a new rink--the drawings look awesome!

As far as recruiting, I'm sure it would help, but our recruiting has gotten WAY better the last few years. Hundred times better than the ECAC days.

Sounds like we are about 30 million away from having the 75. At least we have some idea now.

I think you are oversimplifying the thought process of a recruit. How about playing for a future hall of fame coach? How about an annual tournament like the beanpot? How about playing for a program where the expectation is that you will win a national championship? A number of guys want to play 'near home' so friends and family can attend games.

Union deserves serious attention and credit for what they have accomplished. What about the fact that the Union coach has managed to get a number of local kids that didn't stick out in pre-season recruiting into a college that doesn't offer athletic scholarships and turn them into consistently at the top of the ECAC that's become a very legit conference and win a national title. That guy can say to a recruit 'I'm going to make you the best hockey player you've ever been' and back it up with the track record he's had. I don't mean this in a bad way at all, from what I've seen/read the Union players are class act student athletes, but doesn't every college hockey fan wonder how they managed to get to where they are and have the results they've had!? I give a lot of credit to the coach and athletic director and even Sneddon to an extent to get their program, here goes, a perennial powerhouse. You'd think a large school with massive athletic scholarship money like Minn or BC or ND would kill these guys like UVM kills the teams we play in pre-season...

Re: UVM 2014-2015: Let's Play 10 Games in Massachusetts this Season

Need a quick start tonight, come out flying in the first period. Early lead will be crutial, knock them down early and crush their dreams! Assuming Hoff in goal tonight? Any update on Forg, whats wrong with him, how long is he out, havnt even heard his name mentioned by the press.

Not sure why they dont ask real questions like this on the post game interviews, what a joke it is. Are they scared of Sneddon or what? They ask the most blaitently obvious questions every game and we get the same boring answers.

Hopefully this is the game that gets the 4th line a few points.

Asked and answered in BFP on 10/8: Phillips was one of two UVM players not to dress for Sunday's exhibition game against Royal Military College. Forward Tom Forgione missed the game with a back injury and is currently listed week-to-week

Assume little has changed with Forgione since then.

Wasn't pretty but that 3rd line scored when needed. Next week is the big test.

Re: UVM 2014-2015: Let's Play 10 Games in Massachusetts this Season

Very fun game to watch tonight. Our daughter brought a friend to his first hockey game ever. Mike Santaguida gave him his goalie stick after the warm up and signed it after the game.

Through four games this seems like a much faster and more disciplined team than last year's version. Three legitimate front lines, 5 solid defensemen, and two good goalies. Hoffman made a great save on a knuckle ball in the first period during a UVM power play. UConn was better than I expected and the game had the feel that it was UConn's to steal all night. After the UConn goal Sneddon pretty much went with the top two D pairs for the rest of the game. UVM has really cut down on the stupid selfish retaliation penalties that plagued last year and I think that was a big difference in the game tonight. There were a couple instances where Paliotta got hacked and skated away from it rather than hacking back and ending up in the box.

Not sure of the quality of the competition so far this year but it has been a fun ride.

Re: UVM 2014-2015: Let's Play 10 Games in Massachusetts this Season

Have to be happy with a 4-0 start and the Cats are certainly playing well, especially the goaltenders and defense. Great to start of the season on a roll.

That said I am starting to get a tad concerned offensively. Two of the top 3 scorers are defensemen... 8 regular ice time players have yet to record a point.

And possibly more disconcerting are some of the guys that need to be scoring... Shaw 0-0-0pts, Bradley 0-2-2pts, Reynolds 0-2-2pts... These guys need to be contributing on the score sheet more often. It's still early but it's time for the frosh and some of the sophomores to turn it up a notch. Notre Dame isn't going to be an easy match up.

Yes. This team is offensively challenged currently. Which is typical and ultimately not surprising.... I do think there is potential for more offense though. Agree that shaw needs to get it going. I had expectations for him this year. Bradley looks good his points will come. Hopefully the addition of Phillips in December will help. Reminds me of the second/third year dean strong teams. A bit more execution and shoot at the net not over or beside it and they will be fine. Hope for 2 points next weekend. Does not require dame have a live game feed?

The Friday game is on TV -- NBCSN (yeah baby!!!). As for Saturday, after the UVM game ended last night I went to ND's website to see if they have a live feed. They were only streaming audio, but I think it may have been because the game was being televised nationally (NBCSN???). I got the feeling, however, that they normally have the picture as well. Hopefully someone who knows for sure will see this and chime in.

Re: UVM 2014-2015: Let's Play 10 Games in Massachusetts this Season

I think the defense are taking more shots from the point this year when they are set up in the offensive zone instead of trying to pass to a forward.
