Utica College: The gang's all here.

D-3 refs are generally God-awful, and today was no exception.

Adrian has talent, but they clutch, grab, hold and slash a la the WWF.

The refs evidently got tired of seeing it, and swallowed their whistles after calling the first four on AC, then called a few "make-up" penalties on Utica, just in the name of some absurd notion of "fairness". They even called a dive on UC when the guy charged with the crime was on his feet.;)

It was a brutal game to watch, but I'll give the AC goalies credit. They both played very well. (Otherwise, AC would easily have been swept.)

Unfortunately this has become all too common in D3 hockey. I have seen it for far too many years and truly believe the rougher, dirtier teams are helped by it. Some teams play so atrociously bad that there could be 20 penalties a game on them...at some point the refs start to swallow the whistle but also look at the other team to try and even out the penalty calls....this basically turns into a game being called drastically different for two teams...even favoring the team that pushes the physical/borderline play. If D3 wants to continue to grow they need to penalize this type of play more and encourage clean hockey.

I agree. D-1 has moved on from that calculus, but there's a double-standard in D-3 still.

Western teams seem to get the most leeway, especially in National play. As you say, the P/T refs want to "even things out", for no defensible reason.

That's an archaic approach, and it makes for early-90's viewing. D-3 should review their performances, and make personnel moves based on that evidence.

Make no mistake, Adrian has talent. Yet they were out-shot something like 71-38 over the weekend, and still salvaged a split. Furthermore, the refs ignored 10-20 obvious Adrian holds/interferences in Game 2 alone, and right around the puck! Then they whistled UC for phantom penalties

I could go on and on, but I won't. Sounds like sour grapes, I get that... And it sure made for some shitty hockey, as well.

;-)

As a fan of a team who plays Adrian 3 times per year, I didn't even have to look at the post you were replying to to know what team you were talking about.

As a Norwich fan I do not get to see Adrian play too many times but in the games I have witnessed both live and streamed they are definitely at the top of this list and one of the more skilled teams to play this way. Norwich played Salve Regina this past weekend who were downright goons from the Coaches down to the Equipment managers. Salve honestly looked like a talented team as well so I was disappointed to see their lack of respect for the game.

There are plenty of other teams out this way in the East that carry this type of play to not only pick on Adrian too bad ;)

My point was/is that Adrian is the modern-day Manhattenville: skate two good lines and let the goons take care of the rest... The refs will eventually be afraid to call yet another penalty, and there you go.

And, good God, let them commit murder on the PK... It's only fair!

To be fair, Adrian was anything but healthy. Not sure if you noticed them playing 3 lines and 5 D both nights. Of those missing - senior captain dman, leading scorer from last year, 2 d1 transfers, and a couple others. So they were missing at least 4 regulars. Take it for what its worth

Dang. And Utica still needed OT to earn their half of the split?

Yeah, I saw that. it's worth noting.

UC dominated both games in a territorial sense, not that you'd have a clue about that.

When "your" team plays Adrian twice a year, get back to us, and we'll troll on that thread. (Or maybe not.)

Not going to get into a urinating contest with someone who has an empty bladder. AC is a tough out, period. VERY easily the best team UC has faced this season/pre-season.

You're in luck. SNC and Adrian close out their NCHA schedules with a pair at Arrington in February (and have played each other 3 times a year since 2013-14).

I truly didn't know who Altazo follows. I tend to ignore his posts, and I never troll the SNC thread...

Having said that, AC/SNC should be a fun watch. Two perennial powers getting after it late in the season, with the possibility of big-time NCAA ramifications.

Thanks for the heads-up. Hell, I might even tune in, myself.

Good luck to you and Utica College this season, Fish. You post lots of straight-up nonsense, but you’re a D3 hockey fan so you can’t be all that bad.

Also, can’t you just re-name this thread “D3 Hockey Thread”? It’s pretty slow around here these days…

That would be too general a title, IMO, but, yeah, this site is on its last legs. It's just too shitty a format anymore; it's more work to figure it out than the time it's worth to do that.

Still, you maybe could try to start an SNC thread. It might work! There are usually 200+ fans in attendance in GB, and at least half of them probably possess GED's, or are working toward them. No harm in giving that a shot, my brother.

;-)

Should really just be a Utica Norwich Oswego Plattsburgh thread. Those are the only teams covered on here

Well, this is still primarily a UC thread, so here goes...

Utica won both games by a combined 22-1 score.

Having said that, it wasn't an entertaining weekend.

Blowouts aren't a lot of fun to watch, but I'll say that neither Arcadia nor LVC played clutch/grab/slash hockey, as did Adrian... That much was better, anyway.
