Utica College Pioneers 2015-16

Certainly there's a chance that NU will upset Hobart... Maybe a 33% chance, but a chance. If UC wins in Purchase, the next game will be in the general area, no matter what.

Congrats to the women too. They buried Cortland and have a shot at Elmira. It's been a fun year for Utica fans.

I watched the stream last night from The Aud. It was hopelessly choppy, but the worst aspect was the female color-person. It was like listening to Moon Zappa at 13 on gallons and gallons of tequila and a gross of Oxy's attempting to call a hockey game. Or maybe worse. Her male counterpart was far better, but where was Ray Biggs?

He was helping Mama hide the cookies.

The feed from M'ville was a little blurry, but that game was still fun to watch.

Utica was the better team all night, despite being short-handed for half the game. I had a feeling early on that this night belonged to UC; even made a couple of wagers that *if* Utica scored the 3rd goal of the contest, being down 2-0 at the time, that they would eventually win it. And I'm $20 richer as result of that flier, and am planning to retire on my winnings.

Not making any bold predictions as far as the game at The Cooler goes. UC is the decided underdog no matter how you slice it. But it's nice to see them finish the season on a high note. If Freddy is his usual self, it oughta be competitive.

Congrats to UC for the great win at M-Ville. Hey, fredericks stands on his head and steals one, one period at a time against Hobart.

Re: Utica College Pioneers 2015-16

Hobart must be the real deal, three goals in a minute and the game was over. Good luck to them.

Re: Utica College Pioneers 2015-16

Former Utica College teammates, goalies Gordon Ceasar and Marcus Zelzer faced each other yesterday in the MASCAC tournament championship. Zelzer's Salem State team defeated Ceasar's Plymouth State team 4-0 and earns the ticket to the NCAA Tournament.

Re: Utica College Pioneers 2015-16

Wasn't a bad year - and it wasn't a very memorable one either - yet this team seems to me to possess the potential to make some strides as it matures. I expect a handful of the 23 underclassmen to show-up next season with more refined skill-sets, but we'll have to wait and see.

Recruiting is going to be key. There's only three guaranteed openings next year, but Heenan has a habit of winnowing-out dead wood, so there may be more. Utica really needs a couple of guys who can create their own shots... That, and more of Freddy being Freddy, could well translate into an NCAA berth.

PS: GO HOBART! That's probably as good a team as you'll see in the East this year.

Couldn't agree more -- the team's got grinders and playmakers but need a couple of snipers with speed - Educate, Gaffney types. McVeigh might get there but others with good shots like Dawes & Roberts don't have the wheels to create space.

Also, I won't be surprised if Hobart takes it all.

I'm still around..... I'm with ESPN Radio though working with Dave Peroni. 99.1/1310/espnur.com. You're only going to hear me on the video stream if WPNR doesn't show up, which happened a fair number of times during the second half of the season.

So, going forward... when the team's at home, you may sometimes get lucky and get me on the video, but if you don't, you know where to find me.

Oh I listen to you on espnur for the pre-game as I drive to the Aud, and the post-game as I drive home. Not to pee on your leg, but what an enormous upgrade from the content I've gotten used to over the past 15 years, both on local sports radio and on other D-3 hockey outlets far and wide. You really do your homework and provide a lot of hard-to-find information on this relatively obscure sport. Just about everyone else who ever called a UC hockey game barely knew what end of the stick to grip (though Adam The Bull made up for that a bit in terms of sheer enthusiasm). No doubt you're off for a bigger market before long, but, in the meantime, keep up the great work.

Yeah, the guys who can shoot can't skate, and the inverse is true as well. First thing I do if I'm Heenan is to demand that Samuels-Thomas look for his shot more. He has a pretty impressive skill-set but looks to pass way too often.

How are the Pios looking for next year ? Looked like a young team this year.
