Utica College Pioneers 2012-13 Season

Re: Utica College Pioneers 2012-13 Season

I had my numbers wrong- nothing unusual about that- but I wouldn't feel too bad about Utica adding a tie to their record, as long as it's against Oswego early in '13. (I don't want to aim low, but taking three of four points from OSU would be a first for UC, and a real boost for their RPI.)

I expect Utica to roll Salve Regina on Friday, then I hope they'll be ready for an angry Oswego on Saturday. ( 10-2-1 after that span, maybe?)

OSU is perennially an elite D-3 team, and we don't see many of that ilk in The Aud. ( Pretty-much no others, in fact.) I admire the fact that the Lakers schedule OOC games fearlessly with the best of the ECAC-West... They haven't ducked anyone, and that speaks volumes regarding the excellence they expect from their program.

I was teasing :D And for the record (and I've said so in the past), I am a homer - my preferred order - Plattsburgh Cardinals - SUNYAC - Canton - ECAC-West/Skidmore (with Utica & Elmira topping the list), ECAC-East (with Norwich topping the list) - ECAC-Northeast - MASCAC - then the Mid-Western schools and finally the NESCAC (with a slight tilt to Wesleyan - they are Cardinals after all). And if is not DIII, then it is not hockey.

Re: Utica College Pioneers 2012-13 Season

Oswego certainly had an interesting weekend!
Took one on the chin to UC, but fought back and beat Bart in OT.
Says a lot about a team that has the balls to schedule OOC games with complete confidence!

What section is the visiting bench in at the Aud? How early do you need to get there for College games? I have only been there for High School games in recent years, and parking isn't bad for that. Thanks guys

Parking is not bad if you are willing to pay $5.00 to park in the lot across the side street from the Aud--I do, a most folks aren't. If you get there 45 minutes before the game, you should be able to free park on the street very close to the Aud. Closer to start of game, close-by parking gets difficult.

The visitors bench is in front of sections 102-103..

I appreciate the information, and hopefully will be able to make it down there for what I expect to be another great game.

Re: Utica College Pioneers 2012-13 Season

Not to be contrary, but I never park in The Aud lot, and I wouldn't advise anyone to pay for parking at a UC game, anywhere... That's a complete waste of money, not to mention time, as it can take a while to exit the sheep-pen, too.

We have season tickets, so the crowds at the ticket windows are not a factor for us. Ergo, we arrive just before the games start.
Yet, we invariably find a nearby place to park on the surrounding streets.

As we approach from the East along Whitesboro, yes, there is a long line of cars along the curb, but a quick run up and down Washington, Broadway or Seneca always yields us a plum spot, and a quick getaway after the game.

Utica is not a megalopolis by any means, and there is abundant free parking to be had on both sides of Oriskany Blvd... Just be wary of all no-parking zones, some of which that aren't even obviously demarcated; the city is very proud of its new meter-maid (a male, very technically) who has doubled 2012's parking ticket revenues via his zealous pursuit of truth and justice.

A win is a win, and 6-2 is more-or-less a blowout, but I'm glad that UC played a tune-up vs. Salve Regina tonight.

The Pioneers skated hard, but didn't look anywhere near as sharp as they'll have to be tomorrow. Tonight's game should've ended at 9-1, or better... SR wasn't even competitive with UC's 4th liners.

if Utica is looking to receive an NCAA bid, they'd better wake up against Oswego. With no auto-bid from an also-ran conference on the table, quality wins are crucial; they'll have to jump through hoops to get there, and this hoop is dangling right there for the jumping.

Hope they have gotten the kinks out!

Re: Utica College Pioneers 2012-13 Season

Should be a great game tonight, huge NCAA playoff implications ! Are the students in school ?

Re: Utica College Pioneers 2012-13 Season

UC will have their hands full tonight, Oswego played a good game vs EC, no penalties at all, although they went 0-4 on the PP.
'wego takes this one but it will be close.

Re: Utica College Pioneers 2012-13 Season

Utica was clearly the better team in their win at Oswego. The score could have been much worse as their was three or four off the post. I don't expect the same tonight, Oswego will play better and I really think it wll be a crapshoot. Just a guess...4-2 with an open netter for ??

As well as Hare played an excellent game in net against Utica, and must have another great game tonight

Re: Utica College Pioneers 2012-13 Season

Absolutely the best most disciplined game I have ever seen UC play. The did not even take a penalty till it was well in hand. Give it up for the special teams play too that powerplay unit was unstoppable

Re: Utica College Pioneers 2012-13 Season

I am very impressed with the Pioneers. Count me as a believer now. For them to shutdown that team completely is mind boggling.

Impressed with the Pioneers as well. Oswego has not given up 6 in a game since December of 2008 (6-3 loss to Hobart) and has not lost by 6 goals in the USCHO era (post 1999).

Re: Utica College Pioneers 2012-13 Season

I was at that Hobart game as well. Tough pill to swallow especially in 08 as that got really ugly in the 2nd period of that one. If we have a game like this once every five years that is fine by me. A testament to what a great team we put on the ice year after year. Your always allowed 1 or 2 clunkers a year now its' time to pick yourself up, dust it off and get back to work.

Couldn't agree more re: your first comment. UC's discipline was exemplary. Oswego baited them, but Utica didn't bite... The Pioneers just out-worked and out-skated the Lakers for 55 minutes. (I'm giving OSU the edge in the early going.)

Owsego is composed of 99% OJHL guys -they play a chippy style and know how to get under your skin- but somehow Utica kept its focus throughout.

It was as close to a perfect game as I've ever seen a Utica team play. Big thumbs-up to Heenan and the boys for a great game-plan, superbly executed, against a physical and talented opponent.

Unreal...Utica dominated Oswego, that's twice now. UC's forwards were just so much faster, Therrien was so much better than Hare, I left after the second period at 6-0. It was 3-0 Utica halfway thru the first period ! Do they get respect NOW ??

Re: Utica College Pioneers 2012-13 Season

nice job by utica, they should be tough down the stretch for sure, good luck..
