Utica College Pioneers 2011-2012

Re: Utica College Pioneers 2011-2012

With the addition of Cody Adams to the roster of Utica, they very well could have taken the next step in becoming a legit team OUTSIDE of the ECAC West.

The ECAC-West has been the strongest conference in D-3 for a few years now... Look at their collective OOC record if you doubt that. Had UC played in the SUNYAC, they'd likely have gotten an NCAA bid or two by now, all things being equal.

It may be, but poop the bed against the good OOC teams and suicide against each other in conference and we'll see about that NCAA bid come March.

Utica is what 2-7?? against the SUNY big two (OSU and PSU)...the West as a whole has a mear winning % of .350 against the top SUNY (OSU/PSU) since 05-06. Yet during that time they've managed a .630 winning % the SUNY as a whole. I wonder who they are playing???? Just because you can beat a Brockport, Cortland, Potsdam doesnt mean you are top dogs. Sure they would compete for a title, but I doubt they would have one. They would be a 3-5 SUNYAC team on average.

Re: Utica College Pioneers 2011-2012

utica does look strong, great summer swing in Europe, and a good start to the season with a young, but experienced team...that said they play Oz next weekend in their barn filled to capacity no doubt beer or no beer:eek:....Even if they win, they will have to win more to be respectable outside the West as Remy statisised, if that is a word??????? They will be a force to be delt with is what I am saying but they have to earn it for sure......

I would probably agree with everything, except that.

How many wins do they have against the big two? Since 05-06 Utica has a .580 (17-12-4) record against the SUNYAC. Plattsburgh a .750 and Oswego a .842. If Utica was actually in the SUNYAC they would actually have to (brace yourself here comes that "T" word) TRAVEL to all of the schools once a year. They are a game over .500 on the road against SUNY schools. Having a .580 winning % when playing 70% of those games at home isnt to impressive to say you would finish top 1 or 2 each year sorry.

Re: Utica College Pioneers 2011-2012

Do you think the Oswego-Utica game will sell out next weekend? I was thinking of making the trip down but I'd like to either get some tickets first so I don't make the trip for nothing or know that they won't sell out and that I'd have a pretty good chance of getting tickets when I get there.

Interesting question. Tickets are general admission, with lots of "season general admission" tickets already given out so I don't know how they would even know when the place if full or going to become full. I would think as long as you are there by the time the game starts you can buy a ticket and get in.

It's within your rights to pick whatever time-span you prefer to support your argument.I could probably do the same, to the opposite end...Still, certainly, PSU and Oswego are exceptional D-3 programs, and have fared very well vs. Utica, et al...But that was not my point.

The SUNYAC has been more or less a two-team league for the bulk of the 10 years I've been following D-3, and the ECAC-W has been stacked 4/5 (quality) teams deep during most of the same period.Guess you know where I'm going with this...

Not saying that any one ECAC-W team would have displaced either OSU or PSU, just noting that the ECAC-W is a much more of guantlet to run than is the SUNYAC.And if either OSU or PSU had to face that level of competition every weekend, *maybe* they wouldn't have racked up all the conference wins that they have.

Just a thought.

It might be a near sellout when it's all said and done, but I can pretty-much guarantee that you can pick your seat as long as you're inside The Aud by 6:15.It's a late-arriving crowd there, in general, and not rabid hockey fans...Probably 70% of the attendees are there just to BS and drink beer, as you will likely discover for yourself, mid-way through the 1st.

I have my doubts. The ECAC West is a tough conference with lots of parity top to bottom, but aside from Neumann the conference has been nothing short of dismal in NCAA's. The only W team other than Neumann to win it all was RIT back in 1985. The leagues collective regular season OOC can't change this fact. Conversely, 4 different NCHA schools have won it all in the past 20 years.

In fact, to find a current W member that has even participated in the National Championship game (outside of Neumann) you have to go back to 1988, when Elmira lost.

Very good conference - but kinda overrated. I mean championships are what every team is striving for, right?

Right.

But having to fight tooth-and-nail every weekend just to get a look from the NCAA is no picnic, either...There is no gift AQ allotted the W, and I don't remember too many home games for the Pool C qualifier, no matter who they are.The W has had a much tougher row to hoe for years now.(And it's all RIT's fault for jumping ship.) :)

Meh. The Pool B has basically been the W's AQ for all intents and purposes since RIT left (I know it's gone this season.) In recent history it hasn't been unusual for 3 teams from the W to get bids, only to exit in the first round.

Top to bottom the league is very strong and has lots of parity. But it is my opinion that type of competition all season long should make it's teams more dangerous in the post season, not less dangerous. I don't buy the "our conference is so tough we had to work harder than everyone else to get here and now we've got nothing left in our tanks" argument.

I agree 100%

I'll roll the dice this weekend and give Utica the benefit of the doubt.

Utica 4 Oswego 3-Final
