USCHO NCAA Tournament Pool challenge

Re: USCHO NCAA Tournament Pool challenge

I've picked brackets based on perceived fighting prowess, but never based on flavor. I'm intrigued. Did you take liberties with a double meaning name like Boilermakers or a homophone like Friars? Any intriguing matchups?

Mmmm... Anteater...

I took some liberties with the mascots...like I used alternate meanings like you suggest. Boilermakers made it further than they would have otherwise. As with the Friars.

I had Arkansas Pigs vs. North Dakota State Bison Ribeyes in the final.

Best matchup was probably Arkansas vs. Coastal Carolina. The pig vs. a chicken. Or maybe Arkansas vs. Texas. VCU made a good run, as sheep are generally tasty, as are the Maryland turtles. I made the assumption that a dragon would taste like a gator. Any team that had a person as a mascot, other than Boilermakers and Friars, lost by a rule. No cannibalism, if possible.

Re: USCHO NCAA Tournament Pool challenge

I squeezed Mrs. Kepler in under the wire, so we've got at least one domestic dispute in the pool.

In our <strike>office pool</strike> annual basketball-themed team building event, we have 56 brackets, and 27 chose Kentucky, right in line with the prognosticators' calculation of their chances of winning. Usually the favorite is over-represented, but not this year.

Re: USCHO NCAA Tournament Pool challenge

This might be a good year for the Pope Francis Bracket: "He" has an elite eight matchup of Villanova vs Providence and another of Gonzaga vs Georgetown, with Notre Dame and Xavier making the Final Four on the other side of the bracket. The Pope's best year of course was 1985 when Villanova beat Georgetown.

Re: USCHO NCAA Tournament Pool challenge

These are some of my favorite days in the office as I can stream the games on my laptop while I work on my desktop.

Nobody minds either as boss-types will stop in and ask for scores.

The Masters are other great office days although I'll be on vacation for those days this year.

Re: USCHO NCAA Tournament Pool challenge

UAB with the first halftime scare... They are up 3 on Iowa State...

Re: USCHO NCAA Tournament Pool challenge

Tastiest Mascot bracket got that one right.

Mrs. Kepler had Iowa State in her final four. Tough way to start the day. Hee hee.

Pretty sweet that the brackets link to the game updates.

Georgia State says "move over UAB" and takes over as best upset. Hit a three from 28 feet out with 2 seconds to go. Ended the game on a 13-0 run.

Re: USCHO NCAA Tournament Pool challenge

Man the #3 seeds suck this year. Albany's gotta be feeling good about their game.

Won't happen now... I had them as a Sweet 16 team :o

They are a very solid feel good story though.... I want them to win a game or two...

I'm wondering if Melmac had the kid make those picks for her. she got both of those upsets.

Re: USCHO NCAA Tournament Pool challenge

WOW!!

Twice already today, # 14 seed beats # 3 seed!

Before today, there were 120 games (30 years of 64 teams * 4 quadrants) and the # 14 seed had won 18 times, or 15%. That's 3 times every 5 years if I have my math right.

EDIT: okay, it seems like this is the thread to use to discuss the tourney, not the more general "bouncyball" thread.

I didn't realize it was the coach's son who made the shot for GSU. The only better upset story will be if Hooley from Albany hits another game winner against OU.

Re: USCHO NCAA Tournament Pool challenge

I still have my Elite 8 and Final 4. Sweet 16 is shot, though.

Only missing one of my 8, and got a slight lead on my office pool as well with the same bracket I have here. Wisconsin wins their next game and I just might have it all locked up there.

Re: USCHO NCAA Tournament Pool challenge

Come Saturday morning, either I'm a genius or an idiot.

Our <strike>office pool</strike> annual basketball-themed team-building event looks like it will be won or lost in the elite 8.

27 out of 56 brackets had Kentucky as the winner.
