Re: USCHO Music Thread 2: Rock On, Amigo.

The first Skid Row album. Such a great guilty pleasure.

I'll have to make amends for this in a bit. :p Mudhoney sounds good, since someone mentioned them towards the end of the last thread.

Skid Row and Slave To The Grind were great hair metal albums. I proudly say I like them a lot.

Now, Jewel's "Pieces Of You" or Natalie Merchant's "Tigerlily".....guilty pleasures.

I'm not as big on Slave to the Grind. It has their best singles, but the album as a whole doesn't have the consistent vibe of the debut. I think they were too wrapped up in making a more serious album, and it backfired.

I guess guilt is a matter of perception. I don't consider GnR or Tesla guilty pleasures.

Heck no on GNR/Tesla. I've always said Tesla was the best band that the 80's forgot.

The Blues Brothers' Briefcase Full of Blues arrived in the mail today. It's going into the car's CD player tomorrow. Brand new CD sold for $5, mp3 version was going for $10. Oh, and the CD came with Amazon's AutoRip, which lets users download an mp3 of the album as it's purchased. Pricing structure like this is happening all the time these days.

The autorip happened with my purchase of the Sons Of Anarchy soundtracks, too. Have the hard copies, as well as the MP3s. Love it.

I noticed that started a few years ago - typically you had to pre-order an upcoming album on CD or vinyl, and they'd include the MP3 download.

Since I have it setup so whenever something is added to my Amazon Cloud Drive, it downloads to my phone, I ended up with about 4 copies of every Eric Church song on my phone.

Re: USCHO Music Thread 2: Rock On, Amigo.

I actually listened to Ratt (first 2 albums) the other day while mowing the lawn. :o

Listening to John Brown's Body right now as I'm working on a photo-book to give to my parents from our trip to St. Thomas over Xmas that celebrated their 50th.

Keeping the island/reggae vibe going for inspiration.

I've found that I like reggae a lot more on a daily basis now that I've found a bunch of artists outside of the usual Marley & Tosh. Not that there's anything wrong with those 2 (obviously), just overplayed.

Re: USCHO Music Thread 2: Rock On, Amigo.

Queens of the Stone Age new album came out a week ago and I love it. Many great tracks on there. New Lonely Island album out today...it's not as good as the last one :(

Re: USCHO Music Thread 2: Rock On, Amigo.

Believe it or not, I've never listened to Mother Love Bone.

Checking it out now - halfway through and it's definitely well worth the listen.

They were good; the two-part track at the end of the album (Chloe Dancer/Crown of Thorns) is the best. Andrew Wood had a lot of songwriting talent.

That's on right now. I believe you posted it in the last thread which was made me want to check them out further.

Finally got around to it today.

:)

My daughter asked me to burn a disc of the Dead for her history teacher. Burned 5-8-77 Barton Hall at Cornell. Went over very well ( I better get an A for the class)

Very good choice, of course.

A number of years ago an older musician friend (really good guitarist) of mine who was into all things 70 rock and folk (Waits, Dylan etc.) along with the blues and newer stuff... /ramble

Okay, he wanted to understand why I was spending so much of my summers seeing this band. He had heard their obvious radio stuff.

I made him a copy of that Cornell show (cassettes - 1993-ish) and didn't see him for a couple of weeks. When I did see him, he had been listening to the second set almost daily and was mind-blown. Just keep saying "seamless perfection" over and over.

Took him to a few shows in 94 & 95 and while he saw the band at their worst, he still had a great time and got to experience some Dead shows. :)

Re: USCHO Music Thread 2: Rock On, Amigo.

The Very Best of Chicago: Disc I. One of my favorites in high school (I listened to classic rock at the time, compared to most others). Terry Kath is underrated, and I still resent him for violating the basic tenants of gun safety that led to his stupid death. Sadly, Disc II is mostly their crappy 80s era, save for a couple songs.
