USCHO Hacked?

We've all been frustrated with all the server errors on forum but tonight for the first time I saw Chinese writing appear on the forum page.
Could the reason for all these glitches that USCHO now has that it's been hacked?
 
I am once again offering my help and 10+ years of experience as a linux sysadmin, free of charge, to help troubleshoot the server that runs the forum.
 
We were getting hammered by a search crawler bot that wasn't in our block list. It was hitting vBulletin's search almost 9 times per second. We've blocked it and that appears to have fixed the issue.

Thanks. I'm just curious when you realized this was happening?

So you didn't see our pleas for help from the contact USCHO contact us? I'm just trying to know what avenue to pursue next time it happens. It was going on for 6-8 weeks at least.

I'm not the one who gets those messages and nobody who does alerted me to the issue. (I'm not a moderator or the board admin.) I logged in when I found out, diagnosed it, and fixed it.
