New season is starting soon! Start putting together your lists, and I am planning on having people start to send them to me a week from today, so everyone will have 5 days to get their lists submitted.
Here is a quick overview of the rules, for those who are unfamiliar:
Lists) Pick 30 people for your list. Your picks must be famous, you can't pick your neighbor. The definition of who is famous is up for debate, but this year, I think we should be a little more strict. I would say that your picks must fit into one of the following categories:
Movies and TV (actors, actresses, producers, directors, composers, hosts, performers, writers, reality TV stars)
Books and Magazines (writers, columnists, editors)
Radio (hosts, producers, local & national, sidekicks)
Society (heirs and heiresses, famous for being rich, publicized children of stars)
Politics and Law (office holders, political appointees, cabinet members, ex and current presidents/prime ministers, dictators, famous lawyers, famous judges, justices, analysts, staff members of high office holders, wifes/husbands of office holders, high ranking military officers, terrorists)
Sports (players, athletes, coaches, managers, owners, presidents, officials, former & current, commissioners)
Business and Other Recognized Organizations (CEO's, figureheads, spokespeople, famous for business corruption)
Science (nationally recognized scientists, nobel prize winners)
Criminals (nationally known criminals that are not on death row)
Religion (leaders, heads of religions, nationally known cult leaders, televangelists)
I want to try to limit the "famous for a reason that is going to cause them to die" picks, similar to the original rule that said you can't pick prisoners on death row. This eliminates the oldest people in the world picks and the fattest people in the world picks. Sorry guys.
Scoring) Scoring is simple. If someone on your list dies, you get points. To determine the amount of points, you subtract your person's age (as of Sept 1 2012, which makes the calculations much easier, instead of having to figure out when someone's birthday is before calculating) from 90. That is your point total. You can also get 50 bonus points if you are the only participant to correctly make that pick. Also, new for this year is the fetus rule, if you pick someone, who is pregnant, and she dies, taking the fetus with her, that is a huge bonus of 150 points. This would be a very rare occurance, but worth the risk if you hit on it. Here's a scoring example. You have a 50 year old person your list that dies, you get 90-50=40 points, plus, you're the only one to pick them, so you get another 50 bonus points, for a total score of 90 points. That was a good pick.
I'll make another post over the weekend or next Monday morning, telling people to start sending lists to me.
