USCHO Dead Pool

Re: USCHO Dead Pool

I have finally gotten my list for the 2011-12 season of USCHO Dead Pool completed. I will not change it between now and the start of the next year, unless someone on my list dies between now and then, in that case I'll just replace the dead person with someone else that is on my list of potential picks.

Feel free to start sending me lists, they will need to be in my inbox by midnight central time on August 31st. I will publish everyone's list shortly after that. (actually it probably won't be shortly after that, I'll be a concert that night) You can send the lists to dslindst(at)gmail(dot)com.

Rules and scoring are the same as last year. All picks must be famous, somehow. You will not get points if you are responsible for the death of anyone on your list. And thats about it. Scoring is 90 minus age on Sept. 1, 2011, with a 50 point bonus if you are the only person to pick that particular person.

edit: also, please include the person's age as of Sept. 1st, and if there is any question about who you are picking (commonly used names, etc.) please clarify who you intend to pick. This will make it much easier to get the scoring done.

edit2: just as with last year, you should pick 30 people for your list.

Re: USCHO Dead Pool

I really should quit while I'm way behind, since A) I haven't scored even one in the ground this year and B) I picked a really stupid year to remove two names which I just got tired of having on my list every year, Osama bin Laden and Amy Winehouse.

But since I'm a glutton for punishment I'll probably throw my hat in the ring again.

Re: USCHO Dead Pool

Reminder, if you want to be in the pool this coming year send me your lists by Wednesday at midnight. I've only gotten 2 so far, and I'm guessing that more people are interested than that. Also, I think for people that participated last year and want to let it ride from last year, last years lists will carry over, minus anyone who died. So unless I get a new list from you, your picks from last year will entered this year.

Re: USCHO Dead Pool

What are the rules and I am in!!
Post 427 gives most of the details on rules. Basically, pick 30 famous people (famous is pretty loose here, they can be locally famous, like a local TV anchor or something like that, as long as they are a public figure. My rule of thumb is if they have a Wikipedia page about them, they're probably famous enough) and you get points when they kick the bucket. You are not allowed to pick anyone currently on death-row, and you cannot kill anyone on your list and still get points. Points are awarded by subtracting the person's age on Sept. 1 2011 from 90, and adding a 50 point bonus if you're the only one to pick them. So picking younger, less likely to die, people will get you more points if you pick right. (Amy Winehouse was the good pick this year) Put together your list, along with ages as of Sept. 1st, and send it to me by midnight on Wednesday. Contest runs for a year. After I get everyone's list I'll (well, actually Shirtless Guy will) put it all in a handy dandy google document so everyone can see the lists. There will be a 1 week period where you can challenge the fame other peoples picks. If they aren't famous enough, you can replace them with someone else. Ideally if you have some questionable people on your list, include some backups, and you would replace any challenged picks with your backups.
