Are the cis okay?
MEat and sweet potatoes, spinach, what I’m really struggling with is breakfast. If eggs and protein powders are out I’m lost.
What about oatmeal? Or are grains out too?

Oats are wonderful
I open a packet, pour on milk, and nuke mine.![]()
Steel cut oats
Why does this matter? I started seeing it show up on menus a year ago. The f-ck?
Make a batch Sunday, reheat during weekI mean, it does and doesn’t matter. Personally I think it boils down to a texture preference and convenience issue. Steel cut oats are NOT convenient. Instant oats or even rolled oats are. Rolled oats are steel cut oats just flattened. Or is that not what you were asking?
I’ve made steel cut on the weekends a bunch of times. Little bit of maple syrup and walnuts. Awesome stuff. But a pain in the ***.
They’re less processed. My dr made a point to tell me to eat them over the instant crap. Instant crap can also have a lot of additives where as you can flavor the steel cut.
That’s both crap and correct at the same time. If you actually do get packets, they can have things like sugar, salt, and other stuff in them. If you get the big round canister, they’re literally just flattened versions of steel cut. I get both the rolled oats and the packets. Most of the serving I get is from the canister.
If I go with 100% rolled or steel cut, I end up lightly salting and adding something like maple syrup anyways. So *shrug*. The important thing is you’re getting at least a serving of oats without being totally unhealthy. This isn’t the difference between eating a salad and a wrap that has 3,000 calories.
I suppose I could. But the last time I did that I wasn’t thrilled with the texture. Might have to retry that and experiment a little.
Controlling the additives is the main reason I cook. I don’t make chili, minestrone, etc because I love cooking- I do it because I can control the salt and other additives, where as canned or packaged stuff is generally full of it.
Can anyone help me? I need an elimination diet for three weeks- no dairy, gluten, eggs, legumes, nightshades. I’m panicking because nightshades and legumes are staples in my diet and I have no idea what to eat.

In Detroit, definitely Buddy's. Shield's is very hit-or-miss, it depends on the location & management. I have yet to try Cloverleaf (similar to Uno/Lou Malnati in Chicago, they claim to have been started by the chef who developed Buddy's square pie, then spun-off on his own). I have one "secret" local joint a short drive from my apartment, but I'd have to kill you if I told you the name...It's buried in the back of an unassuming strip mall, but always has a packed dining room and does booming take-out. I think it's as good as Buddy's, but a bit cheaper, and they have a heart-stopping garlic-cheese dip that is a must.
Almond milk yogurt, coconut milk yogurt, fruit, nuts.
I eat leftovers for breakfast also.I was waiting for wally to chime in. Also- metabolically it is better to eat your heavier meals in the AM. Think out of the box and consider things that aren't 'breakfast' food. I frequently have leftovers or soup for breakfast. Or yoghurt (the kinds wally said) with fresh fruit chopped up with a little (not a lot) sprinkle of baking cocoa- unsweetened. I like the bitterness of it. YUM!
