USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Poll

Re: USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Poll

Not understanding Lowell above BC, UNH, and Vermont. If they ended finishing above one of those teams this year I think they'd be thrilled.
If they finish above one of those teams, that would almost promise Lowell a home-ice playoff spot. At this point, I can deal with that to start. :)

Re: USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Poll

Sure, I'll bite.

They lose just three players to graduation. They have one of the best defenses in the country, led by All American Maury Edwards. They have two proven goaltenders.

Lowell owned Vermont last when they had Hobey candidate Viktor Stalberg,

I don't understand other HE fans not seeing the obvious. Maybe when the coaches poll comes out and Lowell is 1-2 (probably second, BU national title and all) they'll get the picture.

First off, its time for the inferiority complex to stop. There are only a few who don't believe that UML will be 1-2 in the preseason poll and one of the top teams in the league this season. If you polled everyone I would guess more then 80% would predict UML having home ice at the end of the season, so it's ok, take the chip off of your shoulder, set down the box of tissues and relax a little bit.

That being said, I hardly see a 1-1-1 record against UVM "owning" them. Even if you throw in the playoff games the goal differential is 0. 12-12 would seem to me at least to be rather even. a 3-1 game, a 3-3 game, a 1-0 game, 4-3 game, 4-2 game.......those are two pretty even teams if you ask me. Owned ???

Before you go off on a tangent, I'm not arguing the "owned" comment because it's pointless. The goal differential though was a +2, 13-11. Lowell lost one 3-1 (at home), and the following four games on the road, 3-3, 1-0, 4-3 and 4-2, the latter three in favor of UML.

Oops my bad:eek: , you are right the 1-0 game was mixed up in my math.

Re: USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Poll

I agree. I would rather be unranked and work my way up. Otherwise it will be a repeat of years past, where we were suppose to be good and coughed it up the first half the season.

Inferiority complex? I do not think this means what you think it means. I was pointing out some facts about Lowell and the three teams the poster seemed confused about. Do you UVM guys search the forums for any thread containing the words "Vermont and Lowell", hoping to have the chance to shout down anyone who has the audacity to suggest Lowell is better than your beloved Catamounts?

"Even if I throw the playoff games in" - That's the most ridiculous sentence you've ever typed, and that's saying something with your track record of absurdity. Sure, why don't we just casually forget that Lowell went up to Vermont and swept the Catamounts out of their own house, and, not to mention, the Hockey East playoffs to boot. Eh, why count those games, right? Regardless of the score, which favors Lowell anyway, the Riverhawks dominated play in those games. Don't take my word for it, check out Coach Sneddon's post game press conferences on Youtube, where he says as much himself.

Re: USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Poll

3 EZAC teams in the top 15, and only 5 WCHA teams?!? Eastern BIAS!!!!Eleventyone1!!!

Not just "EZAC," but Ivy League!

I think it's funny that the ECAC Coaches and Media (as well as the USCHO Forum Poll) all pretty clearly picked Yale as the preseason favorite, yet Cornell and Princeton are both ahead of Yale in the national preseason poll. Can someone explain that? Are there other factors that go into play here that make this more logical? Is there some good reason to believe Yale can crush the ECAC, but that Princeton and Cornell will have an easier time defeating powerful opponents outside the conference?

Princeton & Cornell made impressions at the NCAA Tourney in recent years. Yale got steamrolled by Vermont last year. Its probably nothing more than that.

The local media that covers the league usually has a better grip on what teams are the best.

I wouldn't lose any sleep over it.:)

Cornell's 6 wins in the last 8 NCAA tournaments certainly could be coming into play. Yale has a single NCAA win, in the 1952 consolation game, while Princeton has the same number as SCSU. Perhaps PU's taking UMD to overtime is being seen more favorably than Yale's tank job against UVM?

I think what we are looking for regarding this thread is Messiah Complex
