UPEI @ RPI, Sunday, 10/7/18

Re: UPEI @ RPI, Sunday, 10/7/18

Do we know if NCAA has the rule where refs can call the intermission early due to a long delay?
---
oh wait there goes UPEI I guess they do.

They most certainly do, and it what they're doing. I remember they had to use it a few years back when a Colgate player was stretchered.

EDIT: It's rule 82.5, first paragraph:

If any unusual delay occurs in the first or second periods, the
official may order the next regular intermission to be taken immediately
and the balance of the period shall be completed on the resumption of play
with the teams defending the same goals. The teams then shall change ends
and play the following period without delay.

I didn't realize that we have a female ref.

At first i thought it was guy with hair as long as mine. But upon closer inspection, that is in no way a guy's body in that uniform. But that is just my medical opinion!

that penalty against Grant was from make believe land. Did the female ref make that call? perhaps she thought this was a women's game? Clean defensive play and in no way was that a cross check

She does plenty of men's games, so I wouldn't blame it on that. Watching it again, it was called interference, and is a bit of a judgement call on how much time is allowed after the puck is gone.

Very true - and in my judgement, it was a clean defensive play which took place almost immediately after the player coming into the zone touched the puck. never been a big fan of those calls.

The points of emphasis talk about cracking down on late hits in the pros and juniors, and the committee wants the issue nipped in the bud before it gets too bad, so perhaps that's what's going on. I agree that we've seen that let go in previous years, but the call's the call, and if she wants it tight, it's her discretion.

Tight is OK with me.

Are the stands as empty as they look? i realize this is an exhibition and it is a Sunday with NFL football being played but it seems like there is no one there.
