Updates and More for the games of Friday, 6 January 2012

Oh, whoops. I looked at the END of the third period (the 20:00 mark, when the incident occurred), didn't think to look at the BEGINNING of the third... because, you know, it's TOTALLY logical to put penalties that occurred at the 20:00 mark on the box score at the 0:00 mark :P

But your call was close!!

Re: Updates and More for the games of Friday, 6 January 2012

I saw him with the puck with like a second to go I saw him shoot but I thought he was shooting down the ice didn't see it go towards the net. It was really close to the buzzer from where I was sitting but I could be wrong. Uncalled for yes just like Nicks in the first but your right didn't warrant a flying elbow.

He threw it up the ice as time expired, it went off the boards. His momentum took him forward a bit, where he gathered the puck and put it back in the net well after the buzzer. I'll be the first to admit it was inappropriate and against the rules (don't get me started on why Nick would do it less than a minute after a Castleton player got called for it...), but the Castleton player took the incident and escalated it far beyond what it was. Personally, I think if the rulebook says it can be either a Game Misconduct or a DQ (which it does for Contact to the Head) and it occurs after the final buzzer, that NEEDS to be called as a DQ. If it's bad enough to remove a player from a game, that player should have to serve it, even if it's against a different team the next night. But that's just me...

More grumbling about Castleton.

Good enough to be close against Norwich and Plattsburgh. Not always good enough to win.

I am a firm believer in you get what you deserve. I was at the Castleton-Norwich game last year when Castleton won in OT on 3 power play goals. Never saw them play a cleaner, more disciplined game than that night.

I saw the game this year, a Norwich win based on power play goals in period 1. Final was 3-2 Norwich...when Castleton settled down and played the way they could (should), it ended up being a superior hockey game between two talented teams.

Somehow the message isn't coming through...I didn't see the two Castleton-Plattsburgh games but it sounds that there was much of the same going on.
Win your conference tournament, you go to the NCAA's.

Win more than 80% of your games but not win the tournament, you should be seriously considered for Pool C.

But if you have a renegade image, one that is tarnished by on ice behavior, you get what you deserve.

I thought they were a very skilled team with a couple of players who seemed to a little undiscipline but the top players seemed to be disciplined when I watched them against Utica. But in the Plattsburgh games when they were not getting the scoring chances or the open space they lost all their discipline and started to play dirty for example I believe that the player at the end of the game tonight was their leading scorer. I think this team is talented enough to make the NCAA's but playing the way they do is going to push away the higher seeded teams to push their Strength of Schedule up to get a look if they don't win their conference. I wonder if Emery will want them on the Schedule next year after these 2 games.

Docking's post-game incident was Busch League. The referee handed him the 10-minute game misconduct after the conclusion of the game, and I'm curious to see if Bob sits him tomorrow night because of it.

Note - Plattsburgh State has converted 4 goals in their last 52 power play opportunities.

Re: Updates and More for the games of Friday, 6 January 2012

Got the fact that Pool C is decided by indexing. The decision about the number of teams allowed in the NCAA Division 3 tournament (11) more than likely put more pressure on a 7-4 split than an 8-3. With so many east auto qualifiers, there isnt a lot of room for a Pool C east team....and if you dont have the image, the balance between a 22-3-1 Castleton and a 16-13-1 Wisconsin Superior, despite an index, might lean towards the cleaner program. I have been involved in selection committee meetings that use indexing for match ups....and some of the conversations don't focus around who you have beaten and who your opponents have beaten. If the index was so simple of a mathematical science, I doubt we would hear comments like "it was a hard decision" coming from the selection committee. If it is a based on an index, then why a committee decision?

My thought is that the tournament should be increased to 14 teams.....8 in the east, 6 in the west. Not balanced....but tournament selection should be based on regional factors. Sure, an east team would need to win three games to get to the championship round but at least they had a chance to play in the tournament.

However.......

My point goes deeper than that....clean it up and you get a better chance at a better schedule. Then you have a chance at winning against better opponents. This give you a better chance at Pool C. Unless you become better in your conference and the only way to do that is to be better on the ice in a 5 on 5 game. I give Plattsburgh A+ votes for inviting Castleton to their holiday tournament and scheduling a non conference game with them. I see that another poster questions if Plattsburgh would be wise to connect with Castleton....but just being posters, all we can do is inject some controversial points along the way.

I had a team with marginal talent go to the semis because we stayed out of the box. Lost by a goal. They overachieved in the playoffs (#10 seed, 1 penalty in three games), beat #7, upset #2, lost to #3 because we were tenacious on 5 on 5. Luck ran out, Cinderella's slipper was a bit too tight, and we just couldn't squeeze out another tight win.

But we were disciplined, honored our team, opponents, referees, and the game.

Think that might be the message that might be not coming through.

Yep and some of the Castleton fans were calling the Plattsburgh players Wuss's for not dropping the gloves and fighting back.

I can't believe their fans would act in such a manner....This is blasphemy!!!!!!! :)

I have been saying the same thing about CSC for 2 years now and people kept saying I was bashing them and I had a grudge....If they keep this act up it's going to be really tough for them to find non conference games....

Wow just noticed that Genny needed to late third period goals to beat a one win FP team...

Not like his coach will do anything about it.....

Like I have said before, I don't believe you know what punishments ATODD dishes out to the boys, but you will see the public display today that will make you all happy.....you WILLL see a change in the lineup.......we all agree the crap has to stop, Todd has tried to reign them in and that was all he spoke about after the game was the fact the only thing CSC accomplished was to solidify the bad boy image and he is sick of it(as are the rest of us that support the program) there is a fine line between sticking up for whats right and taking it a step too far....hopefully after today some of the guys will get the point it won't be tolerated any longer
