UNO @ WMU: So your mascot is Tom Cruise from Top Gun right?

Broncos need to get it together, Omaha needs to keep it together. Broncos coming off of a terrible weekend at Colorado College earning 2 of a possible 6 points, UNO splitting the weekend with Denver. Broncos will have to bring back the talent that took 5 points from SCSU as they've played basement teams the last 2 weeks (sorry Miami) and UNO is not a basement team. UNO needs to stop splitting weekends. The last threee series UNO has faced a team at the top of the conference and managed to earn a split. Time for the mavericks to start taking 6 points instead of 3, if they have what it takes to win one game they should win both.

It's my birthday today and im wishing the Broncos have some puck luck from here on out. We cant have both CCHA teams looking like we don't belong (sorry Miami).

Sounds trite, but, stop us from scoring to beat us. Prepare to be outshot, too, probably (unfortunately, to poor effect all too often). Nothing this team does or doesn't do surprises me much any more. One recurring theme from opposing team's head coaches all season has been their team's difficulty in skating with us. Problem is, we don't really have a serviceable goalie and our defense is not great. WMU and UNO look to be pretty much each others equal on paper. We have some quality wins and some really bad losses that more than offset those quality wins.

What is the status of Josh Pitt for this weekend?

throwing 40 shots every weekend at a goalie's bread basket doesn't mean we out shoot a team. I predict a split. Our players won't take the Broncos seriously and lose friday night. I hope I'm wrong.

Bump!! C'mon people... There's too much at stake for this thread to be cast to the 2nd page. Both teams battle to remain relevant!

Here's some controvercy to get things going, Warren Buffet sucks and he's not even THAT rich...

Ok lawson,I am a big WMU fan but with the way Murray runs the team they will never go deep.

he gave a bunch of his money to the Bill Gates foundation. Who taught you how to spell controversy? It's been fun watching this first NCHC season play out.

Yup, correct, he's all the way down to the 4th richest, now:

One of the more interesting things about living in Nebraska (and Omaha) is that it is so small you get afforded opportunities to meet people you probably wouldn't, otherwise. I am not from here and have only been here for 24 years, now, having lived previously in Kansas City and Chicago. As a result, I have had the pleasure of meeting Warren Buffett on 4 separate occasions in completely innocuous and unexpected circumstances (at a party, at a restaurant, at Costco, and in the service department at Lexus of Omaha--note, he was WITH someone that owns one, HE doesn't), and, sucks is not an adjective I would use to describe him. He's a great guy. I was pleased and impressed that he remembered me, by name, the last time I ran into him, too (at the dealership).

Even bigger than UNO winning was SCSU losing. No worse than a tie for 2nd for UNO at night's end.

Re: UNO @ WMU: So your mascot is Tom Cruise from Top Gun right?

A split. Not sure what Murray said to the guys in the locker room after the 2nd period... but it worked!

I was snowboarding all weekend in northern Michigan so I didn't get to see any of the games. Hopefully UNO got the proper welcoming from the Lawson Lunatics. There were plenty of penalties against UNO so I'm sure that some of the UNO players met them upclose and personal.

Any other comments on the series? I don't have much to say having missed both games.

Hard to believe UNO lost that one. Your coach must have used a bull whip during the 2nd intermission. Don't know anything about Ian Brady. Red Cows might have the scoop on him.

I don't know anything about Brady.

That was as inexcusable a loss as we have had since Coach Blais came to UNO. Utterly ridiculous. I assume he was inspired by watching the women's hockey team against the Canadians the other day.

Seems like Dean doesn't give a rats rear end anymore. I have to wonder if he is just biding his time until he retires. I'd like to know when his contract is up.

This has been my impression for some time, now. I don't know to what level or how much he has EVER bought into being here.

Ever notice how he talks about "us" in the third person all time? Forever referring to us as "Omaha" or "UNO" or, another of his favorites, "Nebraska"? I never hear him say "we" or "us", ever.

What I have also noticed is that his most noticeable successes here came in his first two seasons, essentially with Mike Kemp's players.

Here is UNO's incoming recruiting class (the best since he got here Coach Blais says):

http://www.collegehockeynews.com/reports/roster/Nebraska-Omaha/37

What are the two biggest needs on this team, BY FAR? If you said defense and goaltending you have clearly watched what's been going on the past couple seasons. Apparently, the staff hasn't, since there is only one defenseman and no goaltenders to be seen in the incoming class. Thompson and Peters had very average stats while in juniors. And, predictably, they have looked pretty average so far this season. Goaltending is by far the biggest worry to me on this team. In the 107 games played since Faulkner's 6 shut-out season in '10-'11, UNO has had only 3 shut-outs since and NONE, so far, this season at all.

I said somewhere else in another thread that we are starting to look like the Loyola Marymount of college hockey. Run and gun and the hell with any defense--we'll just outscore you. I don't know if you can win in hockey that way or not but we have a lot of offense now, and have more firepower, and a lot of it, on the way next year. Vesel and Randolph are turning the USHL scoring race into a complete joke. They are more than 15 points ahead of their closest pursuers.

We played our way out of the possibility of a regular season conference title this weekend during one half of one period in a game we had well in hand and we just handed it over to the other team on a silver platter.

Well coached and/or good teams do not lose games in that fashion like Saturday night. There are either coaching issues on this team or there are intestinal fortitude issues within our roster. Perhaps some of both.

What happened in that game was flat-out alarming.

Coach Blais and Trev Alberts are both under contract through the '14-'15 season, by the way. I am torn about this situation since Coach Blais is one you'd give the benefit of the doubt to, given his track record prior to coming here. However, he's about used up all the coupons in his book as far as I am concerned. And I know I am not the only one that feels that way, either, based on conversations I have had with other fans at recent home games.
