University of Wisconsin-Superior Hockey 2012-13

Re: University of Wisconsin-Superior Hockey 2012-13

No joke intended, IMO the top 5 MCHA teams (of which Adrian & MSOE will be 2 of) will dominate over the bottom 5 (polarized), perhaps the WIAC hopes to persuade couple of LVC equivalents to jump over to them.
From what I understand there is no love for the WIAC, among the current MCHA schools...
The new arrrangement makes for a clean "private" vs "public" separation.....schools with similar philosophies.

I also agree with you here too, but I am still trying to figure what the WIAC was/is thinking (now if Bruce was there, it would understand). And I sincerely am hoping the WIAC hockey teams the best - they have left their DIII footprints in the sand, but it doesn't look good... √2

I'm not sure I agree. In a couple years I foresee a solid group of Adrian, SNC, CSS, Lawrence, Marian, Concordia, and MSOE. Northland, Lake Forest and Finlandia could very easily continue to have problems regardless of which league they play in.

As for the WIAC schools and their footprint, sure, it doesn't look good, but they did it to themselves.

The stronger the conference - the greater the "brand" and the easier recruiting becomes - that said, I think a couple years for the bottom 5 to rise up, is to optimistic (though I would prefer to be proven wrong).

Considering you couldn't even remember that SNC and CSS were joining the MCHA, maybe it's about time you stop making random guesses about this. You're not really accomplishing much.

Re: University of Wisconsin-Superior Hockey 2012-13

I agree that right now the last place team in the NCHA is stronger than the last place team in the MCHA, if that's essentially what you're stating. But, the MCHA is no longer a joke, and with the addition of SNC and CSS next season it will consistantly have 4 or 5 teams that can skate with and potentially beat any team in the country on any given night. Can't really say that about too many other conferences ...

I absolutely agree - and have for years - that the MCHA isn't a joke, for awhile their handling of the NCAA application process approached an unfunny joke, but they got it done. And I agree their top 5 teams are going to be a force to be reckoned with - however, the size of their conference and the limited games the season allows, is going to force those teams to beat up their conference "have nots" with results not seen in too many other conferences ...

The MCHA is going to replace the NCHA (RIP), the WIAC has their work cut out for them (by them).

Well, seeing how CUW just gassed their entire roster this summer (only 3 players return from last year's team), along with the fact they got a new rink in January, I think they're going to be much better very soon. It's not a stretch at all regarding the others I've mentioned either. I didn't think I went out on much of a limb there.

Hope you are right

Yup, gotta admit, the MCHA 's handling of the NCAA a few years back regarding their AQ application did approach bad joke territory.

Was that whole disaster the fault of the NCAA or the MCHA? Who blew it?

Re: University of Wisconsin-Superior Hockey 2012-13

Not 100% certain, but I thought I remembered the MCHA being rather indifferent about the whole thing before Adrian really emerged as an elite team.

Re: University of Wisconsin-Superior Hockey 2012-13

It was my understanding that a driving force for the WIAC separating itself from the NCHA dealt with recruiting rules. Haven't had time to dig into this, so maybe someone with insight can inform.?

Look for Lawrence to build a new ice rink on or adjacent to their campus within the next 3-4 years. I'm sure the AD will be 100% behind the move. The MCHA will be a league with 8 teams that will be able to offer a recruit a solid program. I think LFC with its fantastic Rec and Gym facility can turn things around with administrative support. Currently the LFC football and Men's and Women's soccer teams are leading their conferences. I can only agree with Hammer regarding the state of hockey at Finlandia and Northland.

Budget and cash flow discrepancies? I'll tell you what, envy runs deep for the new MCHA. They will be solid without question. It's a nervous time for WIAC ice hockey teams, fans, supporters, sponsors and so forth. To say the WIAC is dead without SNC and CSS might not be far off unless they have something big hiding up their sleeves. Pressure is on the decision makers.

Re: University of Wisconsin-Superior Hockey 2012-13

Strandberg is back! Great showing too, allowing one goal on 21 shots Friday night. Did not play for MIAC game 2 today. Pinoniemi did however, and also gave up only one goal. Not sure if Strandberg aggravated prior injury or is just easing back into play via rotation. On offense, Jeff Forsythe led the Jackets with 4 points on the weekend as Joey Massingham scored two goals and tallied 3 pts on the weekend. After a lousy first game of the season, the boys have played 3 straight good ones. Stevens Point comes to Wessman Arena next weekend for 2 NCHA showdowns. Should be entertaining.
