University of North Dakota... the March past March

Re: University of North Dakota... the March past March

Great win by the Sioux! Hopefully we will have everyone back in the lineup next week.

Keep this train rolling!

Completely agreed. Hopefully we get placed in Green Bay, as 1) it's close, and we could have quite a few Sioux fans there and 2) it's a Saturday/Sunday series. That would give us an extra day of rest, PLUS, and this is most important, Friday is my wife and I's anniversary. I don't want to be in the doghouse. :p:D:D

Re: University of North Dakota... the March past March

Nice work Sioux. :)
Looks like we might have to go through DU again though...
I'm hoping tonight's game will be an advantage if we do meet up with DU again. The game tonight really could have gone either way. If we see DU again the guys will know they are in for a serious fight before they ever hit the ice. Hopefully that will help pick up their level of play.

FS23, if she is a truly understanding wife she'll spend a romantic evening in front of the Sioux game with you if a Friday night game is required. :D

It will help having Gregoire back too.

I guess we'll see what happens tomorrow during the selection show!

RPI and then assuming everything goes to plan Denver (again). Denver outplayed the Sioux tonight imho, but the talent of the Sioux carried them. Denver SHOULD NOT ne taken lightly in a neutral enviroment and could give the Sioux everything they could handle and more. Should be interesting. Typically, the winner of a game at the final five does not fare well the next weenend when matched against a team they just beat, and Denver is one the few teams left capable of beating the Sioux. Overall, the Sioux would be better out east imho.

This was simply a neutral observation from a Gopher fan, so take it for what it's worth. I always liked input from Sioux fans knowing they were pulling against us to let us know where we stood. Flame as you will, but this about as unbiaded as I get.

I agree that DU carried play for a good chunk of tonight's game. If the Sioux get sent to Green Bay, I would guess that it would be a very pro-Sioux crowd there as well, but I too remember how poorly teams have done during regionals when they played the previous week at the F5. The Wheeler OT winner at the F5 year followed by the Porter OT winner for the F4 trip.

I think the Sioux could do well out east as well...I just don't like the prospect of facing UNH in NH again. Not sure if I would rather them go out there or potentially face DU again.

Re: University of North Dakota... the March past March

I thought the Sioux looked awful against Denver. They were not skating hard. They blew at least 2 open net opportunities if not more. The undisciplined penalties were the result of being caught flat-footed and lazy. That said, if the Sioux play well, they should be able to beat Denver next weekend. Having JG back should help. Dell was great against DU.

Dell - A
Trupp - A-
Frattin - B+
Genoway - C
Blood - C+
McWilliam - B-
Forbort - B
Malone - B-
Hextall - C+
Pickin - B
Kristo - A-
Lapoint - B-

Re: University of North Dakota... the March past March

My thoughts on the Final Five.

First, great turnout by Sioux fans. Obviously, without Wisconsin and Minnesota the WCHA, and the Final Five will be dramatically different. I shudder to think what the tournament would have looked like without the good turnout by the green and white.

I heard some whining at the tournament from some Sioux fans similar to that expressed by SIM regarding the alleged "poor play" of the team this weekend. They seemed to be under the impression that the ease with which the team dispatched Tech, BSU and some of the other poorer WCHA teams this past month and a half is to be expected when we play a real team, under tournament conditions. I'm very pleased with how the team responded when up against some very talented and good play. It should serve them well moving forward.

To me, one huge key will be the return of Jason Gregoire. If he can perform anywhere near the level he was following his first return, the Sioux should have as good a chance for a championship that they could hope. Without JG this weekend, the second line did not generate the kind of scoring threats we need from them, and were essentially reduced to a checking line.

Two good offensive lines, with some goals chipped in by the likes of Kristo, Nelson, Davidson, etc..., will really help.

So, RPI huh?
Another ECAC team in the 1st round. Better not look past them like Yale last year!

:)

I agree that getting Gregoire back will be a major factor for the Sioux next weekend. Between him being out of the lineup and Kristo and MacWilliam coming back into it, there was some major juggling of lines and shuffling of defensive pairs this weekend. This hurt most on the power play where the Sioux went 0-6 for the tournament.

The Gregoire-Knight-Hextall line was showing some excellent chemistry and both power play units were playing very well. Having Gregoire back will enable UND to get back to the combinations that were working well together. Plus, between having Kristo back and Davidson showing that he can be an offensive threat, the Sioux should be able to generate plenty of offense.

Re: University of North Dakota... the March past March

The Green Bay regional looks exactly like I thought it would. Michigan got a tough draw being put opposite of BC rather than Miami.

Re: University of North Dakota... the March past March

So, who was it who was telling us a couple weeks ago that the MacNaughton was an anchor around our necks? That if you wanted to win it all you wanted the Broadmoor? Well hey, we have both! :D Time to go out and pick up a third piece of hardware. :)
Yeah, let's get some hardware the boys can touch.

Re: University of North Dakota... the March past March

I can't believe how well Davidson is playing. A goal in each F5 game for a walk-on that wasn't even considered someone that would get playing time this year. Very impressive.

He looked very good during the tourney...
The definite advantage of depth. It isn't a matter of not having any injuries over the course of a season, its a matter of how many, to whom, and how well your team can fill in the gaps when they hit.

My youngest brother, a season ticket holder, planned (a few years ago now) his wedding for early April, because the NCAA tourney was always done by then. But, they added the week off, and now it almost always falls on the weekend closest to his anniversary. Too bad for him!

Between chuckles, RPI coach Seth Appert said pretty much the same thing http://www.youtube.com/user/RPIathletics?feature=mhum#p/u/0/i_UIatvJ1vM (about 12:20).

Anybody see that terrific, hard hitting "legal" checking from behind hit by Nelson on Friday night? Wow, to give him a 5 minute major and game dq was way over the top! This is hockey! I was in total agreement with all the Sioux fans there that were upset with the call. No way should a Sioux player be called for such infractions, they play hard and fair unlike SCSU players. Of course if the hit were against St. Frattin, Hackstooge would have sent out his 4th line center to enact justice, or would he have sent out Eides to do the necessary job?
