University of Michigan, 2017-2018, a new era starts

Re: University of Michigan, 2017-2018, a new era starts

A late addition to the schedule.

Saturday, December 2nd will be Michigan playing its first road exhibition game in many many years.

Wolverines travel TO the US NTDP and play them at their home arena in Plymouth.

Thanks, that is unusual.

Football tomorrow? Go Blue!

Also, that means hockey is right around the corner!
I'm excited. I was checking the Deker website to find news on the picnic, but the website hasn't been updated since last season. Wonder if Mel will do the picnic, or if that was a Red thing.

What are predictions for this season? Anyone know much about our incoming Freshman? How many seasons to get back to the NCAA tourney (on a consistent, let's aim for our previous streak or better manner)?
I'm all kinds of hopeful. However, I like to temper my expectations so as to not be mad/disappointed. I'm hoping for a winning season, preferably 20+ wins.

Well, as I'm sure everyone knows Mel doesn't think that there will be a drop-off. Some of the incoming Freshman are highly ranked but you never know if those re correct or not. For some odd reason I seem to recall Mel wanting to bring more size to Michigan. If I remembered correctly that's a good thing as we have always lacked size.

All that I know for sure is that I'm antsy for football. About 30 more minutes...

...
Talk about a short memory!
Last season UM was the third tallest team at 6'1" and second heaviest at 196.6 lbs. Does Mel plan to share recruits with the football coach?

Re: the picnic- apparently there are some new NCAA rules that effect the picnic. Which is why it's taking so long to set up.

If you want to see a video of the team practicing- there's one up on Mgoblue.com.

Less than a month for the season to start. Actually- 3 weeks until the "opener" with Western Ontario, which is also "skate with the Wolverines" night. (Which we will miss.... )

Maybe I do have a short-memory issue, but the guys always look smaller than the opposition.

**** Michigan. That is all :)

LOL, same to you little sparty. ;)

Funny side story- we had dinner last night with a former player, who had one of his best friends play for state. And they are still best friends. So the players don't have the same hate that we have for each other. :)

Oh yes indeedy. Those bonds that go back to Mites, PeeWees & beyond naturally lead to quite a few such lasting friendships.

Just trying on my pre-season game face ;)

I wouldn't be so sure about that. Yes friendships can survive the rivalry but yes, the two hate each other.

No, they don't hate. Just compete with more intensity.

The hugs after the game are very real.

Hate may have been a little too strong of a word and my knowledge of the situation does date back a few years (2004/2005) but I received the certain feeling and words from several players that the wouldn't pour water on a sparty (friends excepted) if they were on fire. And then there was this a couple years later...

And these several years prior.

Deker's people. Will there be a viewing party for when Michigan opens the season in NY (St. Lawrence and Clarkson)?

Spoke to a friend today about Michigan Hockey. He informed me that he has heard from multiple people close to the team that the Freshmen are looking outstanding in practice. Now I can't say that this guy is reliable, but I also can't say if he is full of isht. Basically take it for what it's worth, we'll be young but highly competitive this year. I hate looking to the future for results but as Timbuk 3 said, "The future's so bright I gotta wear shades."

OK that was lame but you get the point.

I've heard similar from players we know. They are pretty excited for the season.

Hope it translates into success they want!
