Re: Union @ RPI on Saturday, 11/16

I don't know what to expect tonight. I thought we would come out against Harvard and kick some butt in the second game of a home and home series and we did not.
I would expect us to come out on fire after last night, but who knows. This team has a lot of talent, but still has a lot to learn about how to play.
This team has enough talent not to need to rely on emotion. We do not do well in emotional games.
Just go out and play our game with intensity and forget who the opponent is.

lets go red!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Union @ RPI on Saturday, 11/16

we simply did not play well for much of last night's game. Give a lot of credit to Union in that they seized on every mistake, evry turnover. They are a team that you just cannot make mistakes against, especially in your own zone or at center ice. The fourth goal they scored(the eventual game winner) was a complete defensive lapse. I am sure SA knows that and is carefully looking on how to shake up the defensive pairings because this kind of thing has just happened too often already this year. Penalties of course played a role last night-being out penalized 5-1 had an influence on the first two periods. Union taking 2 late penalties help get us back into a game that we were really never in. And we have got to find a way to play better at the end when we pull the goalie. Some teams do it just so much better-keeping the puck in the offensive zone and creating at least a couple chances. The only consolation last night was not giving up an ENG. Union plays for the entire game-they do not seem to suffer those periods of time that they let down. We need to do the same. Go Red! Let's get this one back.

I totally agree with this comment, and I believe that it has something to do with the team totally buying into the system that they coaches present to them.
For some reason, we can't get all of our players playing at the same time. When they do, they are very good, but too often, someone is taking the night off. That has to stop if we are to become the top ten team we think they are.

What about when we scored 2 3rd period goals?

Re: Union @ RPI on Saturday, 11/16

I was there and can assure you that no one thought that game was over at 4-3. Closing out games remains an issue.

As usual, JCrawford is just trying to be a jerk. I didn't say it was over at 52 minutes. It was over when Union scored the 4th goal.

Ralph-scoring 2 goals at the end of a game when Union was protecting a huge lead is not a good example. The prevent defense often allows a lot of different things to happen. In addition the officials were quite helpful giving us a 5 on 3(well after the game was decided). I did not see the game-but from the excellent play by play from Kurt-Union played a solid 60 minutes while we played about 1/4 of that. I do not think that is in any way an indication of what will transpire tonight-I think we will come out with just that much more to prove. My reservation for tonight is that we won the special teams battle last night and still got beat-I am not so sure we win that same battle tonight.

With this being Dell's last game, I wonder how many game DQ penalties he's going to hand out. After all, he's retiring, and will never have to answer to it.

The third goal was the beginning of the end. The 4th goal was the stake through the heart that you got to see in those old Hammer Horror films with Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee. We have had these episodes where the wheels have come off before-and not just with Union-we have to figure out why and stop it if we are to be a top ranked program. Union became a national power by doing just that under the previous coach-and they have continued it with the current coach.

We cannot focus on that-Dell is just going to be Dell-we have to be the masters of our own fate. If we play aggressively and can put UC on the defensive, then they will be the ones that have to take the bad penalties. If we put ourselves in the position to lose because of taking penalties, then it is no one else's fault. Our 3 defensive pairings have to play cohesive smart hockey-they have to clear out any second chances that Diebold allows and they have to be able to clear the puck completely out of the zone when the pressure dictates it. I could not count how many times UC kept the puck in our zone last night when we needed to get it past the blue line.

Re: Union @ RPI on Saturday, 11/16

I wasn't able to listen to last night's game, but I am having trouble connecting some of the comments here to what I see in the box score. Did Union have a huge lead at some point? If 3 goals is a huge lead, they had that for less than 2 minutes.
