Caron skated through the slot and lifted a Union player's stick, knocking it out of his hands (hence the interference penalty), before he moved to the top of the crease where he was cross-checked. It was an unnecessary and undisciplined penalty, but the whistle didn't blow right away and the cross-check was blatant. How a ref that must have been watching Caron could not call that a minor as well is baffling. The fact that Smith didn't go beserk is also beyond me.
Very good eyes on your part. I missed the the original call (the pub was very busy and crowded) but saw the blatant cross check that was not called. I tried to watch the replay of the 5 minute penalty call on Caron and simply did not see it well enough. I never heard what the call was but no doubt that was the deciding influence of the game. RPI had all the momentum at that time having come back from 2 goals down. If it was deserved, then so be it, but just did not see enough on replay. BTW the replays being shown are often just not showing the entire play early enough or left on and interfere with the live play once they start up again.
