Hull was a disaster for Union. During his era, the number of alumni giving to the school greatly diminished, a reflection of their disgust with the school and the administration. The only greater disappointment, during this time period, was in the board of directors. Union has always been poorly lead, at least up to Hull's departure. Looks like the new president, and leadership on the board, are turning things around.

When I was called to give a donation the year after graduating I told them not to call me until Hull was gone. I know a few others that told them the same.

I haven't given a donation since the campaign to end Civil Engineering and I've told them not to call me until CE is back.. although I am perhaps melting on that position as I like Ainsley and what is happening at U.. and of course I would give a donation toward a new hockey rink ;)

I talked to the Dean of the engineering grad school a few years ago. I thought Civil was coming back through the back door (called something else). At least that is what he seemed to imply.

Hi All -

Ferris State hockey will be hosting two radio call-in talk shows live from Tampa Bay this week, one on Wednesday and one on Thursday.

Wednesday - 6:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. - 107.3 FM WBBL - Grand Rapids Sports Station - Leading up to the Red Wings Game - "Hockey Night on WBBL"

Thursday - 3:00 p.m. - 4:30 p.m./Puck drop - 97.3 FM (Big Rapids, Cadillac, Reed City), 1210 AM (Traverse City), 1110 AM (Petoskey)

You can always donate to the Gil Harlow Fund. It's for only two purposes, maintaining the Whipple Bridge and CE Monument next to it, and bringing back the CE program. If I start donating generally again, it's the only way I will. (Being a CE major myself). Despite Hull being gone for a few years now, I still haven't given back, but far more open to it. My pride in the school is restored, and actively read the nearly daily emails about activities at the school.

A little lost here as there is no Dean of an engineering grad school as the engineering grad program is maybe 2 dozen students at most. It was likely the Dean of all engineering programs. Do you remember the name? I am not sure who it is currently but if it was Balmer, he was the one that rolled over like a dead dog and let Hull sack CE. And at the time Hull sacked CE it was ranked a top 10 undergrad program. (So was ME, and ME got fiddled with too if I recall correctly)

Didn't Ned Harkness coach at Union? I vaguely remember being home in Pittsfield, MA when I was living in Denver and seeing an interview with Harkness when he told the news that Union was going to be better known for hockey than academics in the future...................that was the end of the "darkness with Harkness" era!!!!

Decided to walk down memory lane myself this weekend and re-read UnionTDX04's old post from 2012. Union does indeed have an illustrious history and now it has an NCAA D1 Men's Hockey National Championship. Such a great story!
