Re: Union College Hockey 2014-2015 "ReUnion 2015? Why "Nott"?

Maybe the best game I've seen U play this year. Almost a perfect road game - clamped down on D early and then took advantage of opportunities in the 2nd period to turn momentum. Did a really good job of standing up Cornell at the blueline and forcing them to dump it in, then kept things to the outside when the Red had the puck in the zone. Team defense was excellent, Stevens was very good when there were a couple breakdowns, and the top guns stepped up offensively. Very impressed with how the young D-men played, especially DeSimone & Light and very nice to see Taylor calmly bringing the puck up ice - his presence was huge as was Wilkins physical play. That was classic Union hockey and best example of it I've seen this season. Tonight of course will be twice as hard and am worried if the refs "let'em play" as they did at times last night. The Red are freaking huge, as usual, and will be very motivated. U will have to use their speed to hopefully wear them down a bit. This series is not over by a long shot.

Wow. Union looked loose, (a couple of times too loose) tonite. Looks like Hamden next weekend.

WOW!

I was expecting good things this weekend, but definitely didn't expect it to be that decisive. The boys still need to tighten things up a little bit for next weekend as you have to feel that Q will bury a few of those chances that Cornell didn't. All four lines are finally clicking, and the D has cut down on most of the bad turnovers. On to the Q!

Wow.... unexpected.... Union's effort last night and tonight was very surprising. It looks like a different team.... Very nice to see something clicked. Best 2 games from the team this season. We heard nothing from some of the players this year (or very little) and all of a sudden, they're here, playing their best !!! Perfect timing.
Thank you to Stevens ! he kept us in the game. A well deserved shutout !

Wow! 7-0?! Did NOT expect that. The season is alive for at least another week. U gotta believe.

My favorite quote of the night: Cornell announcer "Quinnipiac should petition with the ECAC to play a different opponent next weekend"

I'm cautiously optimistic U has their swag back!!

The Union radio team (especially Brian Unger) was rather excited about Vecchione's highlight reel goal.

Understandably so, of course.

Hear their great call: http://t.co/cpbwgr5zU4

I am not surprised by the result but I think everyone is surprised by the score? Was Gillam hurt? Can't fathom him not starting tonight? At this moment, I am very happy we didn't finish first but I think we get Clarkson which is a bad draw for us. Even if we win, those games take an emotional toll on the team. Tomorrow night, I am an RPI fan.

Congrats on a great weekend!!

Yes, I liked that comment as well. As a Q fan I kind of agree with them. A hot Union team may be just about the worst we could have got for next week. Should be a great series!

Gillam just hasn't been himself lately and Stewart was solid in relief of him in 2 of the last 3 games, so I wasn't surprised Schafer gave him the start. This was the fourth game in a row where Cornell gave up a slew of goals to fall way behind -- we just happened to save the worst for last. Union was outstanding in exploiting every mistake, and in game two they were also creative in generating several good chances from nothing (Vecchione's goal was one for the ages).

I still believe that SLU and Q are the best teams in the conference this year, but both Dartmouth and Union have put it together at the right time and could be spoilers. 3 of the 4 series (other than SLU) ought to be razor thin margins.

Anyone else heading to Hamden this weekend? I just got my Saturday tickets. I'll be there on Sunday as well (if necessary).
