As for the Ciampini hit, I don't think it was a dirty hit... The officials probably saw a high hit, close enough to the head and neck area to call a contact to the head. It's closer to an elbowing call I think (he goes in with his arm in front of him, not his shoulder). Hope Ciampini is ok.
The beginning of the season wasn't great. We still managed to win but it was never nice hockey, like it was in the second half.

That said, I will say that at the SLU game last weekend, I felt Clarkson was trending high with some hits. They didn't get called for it, but just my observation.

Totally agree. Union has blown leads with 11 minutes left. No team should give up and stop playing with that much time left. Didn't someone famous once say, "It ain't over 'til it's over."?

Said what? Clarkson getting out played in all 3 zones, giving up a short handed goal, and was not going to win that game? Then out of frustration deliver a high hit on the nation's leading goal scorer. High hits/player safety is a point of emphasis this year, Tansey should be suspended.

FWIW, by the advanced metrics, Clarkson very slightly outplayed Union for the game. 50-45 Total shot attempts, 38-27 Even strength shot attempts. CHN's Josh Seguin also said that Union was more opportunistic than dominant, and that a 4-1 score didn't truly reflect the game play.
I'll be shocked if Tansey gets supplemental discipline.

Bottomline is Tansey very well cost the Knights the game with two stupid and dangerous hits that led to Union PP goals. Its interesting that despite the changes in Potsdam, the tradition continues of having a big D-man or two that likes to "blow up" people like its the Charleston Chiefs. I don't like the hit on Ciampini and think it was a clear "intent to injure", particularly as he was being hit by another Clarkson player when Tansey blew him up. But I do like having the gift giveaways and 5 minute PP opportunities - nice to see someone other than Union being stupid for a change.

Question - Did the lines we rolled yesterday match with the published lineup? I know they are supposed to and usually do but sometimes they don't? Wait, there is a little note on the line chart - Lines Subject to Change.

Another wonderful performance by the officials... and there is another whole period to go.
In the meantime our goalies are on vacation (stats are .83 and .75 for now) somewhere with our power play unit (-1 for 5 for now). Our forwards that don't defend are taking a nap We're left with a few denfensemen and a couple of players who are not sure what they're doing.
SLU is playing a very nice game of hockey. They're another one of those teams that defends very high and we have no idea how to play that kind of D. And they score on their chances.

The one thing that I think we have learned this year is that it is very hard to put a goalie in who is not warmed up. Alex did real well againt Q but usually he says he is much better if he is mentally prepared. Not making excuses .... At this point I am wondering if a few well placed traffic cones would do a better job in goal then what we have seen. We are giving up on average 4 goals a game, worse then anyone in D1 College hockey. How does that happen? At this point I no longer care. I only want Champ and Vec to break the school records. BTW, when was the last time we were on the road in the first round of the tournament?
