Re: Union College Hockey 2014-2015 "ReUnion 2015? Why "Nott"?

Have we lost when Connor Light has started?
Any thoughts on our "Big Lineup?" Big Line-up last night was David Roy 6'4", Eli 6'6", Connor Light 6'5"
Best job of hitting all year ..... finishing our hits .... the Brown announcers were very impressed.
Roman Ammirato waited until the last second ... when the Brown Goalie was out of position ... smart hockey - nice goal ... key 4th goal ... my player of the game because of the way he dug out a puck against two bigger Brown defenders ... Taylor next
Collin Stevens - nice game
Vecchione tied with Eichel - scoring leaders NCAA
Novak & Ciampini tied with Anas (Q) and McNally (H) - scoring leaders ECAC (10)
ECAC game of the week, IMO, Cornell - only Non-Conference, beat Denver 4-1, Helps whole league pairwise. Can they sweep? Yes.
IVY - Yale, Cornell, Harvard, Dartmouth ..... doing it with team defense, goal tending.
Always thought that if we had given out three "A"s this year, like last year, Novak might have been a candidate for one.
IMO Ciampini needs to take more shots instead of making that last pass .... looked like he might have passed up a few "grade A's"
Yale always has outstanding transition game - this year add goal tending. We will need lots of offense to get by Lyons and outstanding goal tending from Stevins to pull this off - we are going to be tired and sore and badly bruised, with little sleep and far away from home in a strange land of BullDogs. :D Character time. Who is going to step up?

Re: Union College Hockey 2014-2015 "ReUnion 2015? Why "Nott"?

Good game, Union fans out in force. Two late goals in 2nd and Wilkins dagger early in the third really took it out of Yale. Started to look like a pack of wolves Champs line in particular, in the 3rd Max flat outworked Yale dman along the walls who had him by 20lbs. Connor Light's checks look like a building collapse. Don't know about momentum going into a long break, but that was a nice road weekend. Next up UConn in Bepo.

Re: Union College Hockey 2014-2015 "ReUnion 2015? Why "Nott"?

Good week end. Strong wins. Good showing by the team both nights.
Watch Ammirato : he is the next addition to our "hot" players list. Hard work everywhere on the ice, very nice vision of the game, finishing capabilities. Hope he keeps it going.
Best wishes to Pontarelli, hope he is better soon.

Re: Union College Hockey 2014-2015 "ReUnion 2015? Why "Nott"?

It is interesting to look at where we are. Preseason favorite Colgate has faded. Harvard owns the headlines. Union has left a few scratching their heads. The usual moaning and groaning in Troy continues. The Dutchmen's win over Yale was important. With the meat of the season looming, have they finally gained traction? Post championship campaigns are tough. The competition is fierce top to bottom. The last three years have been incredible. This campaign is proving to be the most challenging. A top four finish would be spectacular in the context of the first half of the season. Whatever, Union hockey enjoys a presence.

Noticed that U has snuck back into the top 20 pole.. probably the first deserved ranking of the season.

Also took a look at the PWR just for grins & giggles.. a guess where U stands??????????

#26!!!

How cool is that!!!! Too bad we're not playing SCSU next weekend..

Re: Union College Hockey 2014-2015 "ReUnion 2015? Why "Nott"?

It's about the halfway point in College Hockey. Good time to assess. If the season ended today, looking at the pairwise, the ECAC would only send two teams to the NCAA's, Harvard (#4) and Yale (#14) and perhaps a third team if another team won the tournament. OOC wins are critical if you want to make it to the NCAA's. We are (#26).

So where does the ECAC stand?

The ECAC, if I counted correctly, has 41 OOC games to go ..... Our current record is:

37-30-8 OOC when counting OOC against league opponents
36-29-4 OOC when not counting OOC against league opponents

Who is helping > or = .500 in OOC
For these 9 teams, their OOC record is 32-15-4

HARVARD 4-0-0 as of 12/10/2014 Remaining NC - 3
DARTMOUTH 2-0-0 as of 12/10/2014 Remaining NC - 5
YALE 2-0-1 as of 12/10/2014 Remaining NC - 4
UNION 6-2-0 as of 12/10/2014 Remaining NC - 4
BROWN 2-1-0 as of 12/10/2014 Remaining NC - 4
COLGATE 6-4-0 as of 12/10/2014 Remaining NC - 2
ST. LAWRENCE 4-3-1 as of 12/10/2014 Remaining NC - 4
QUINNIPIAC 4-3-1 as of 12/10/2014 Remaining NC - 4
CORNELL 2-2-1 as of 12/10/2014 Remaining NC - 2

Who is not helping < .500 in OOC
For these three teams, their OOC record is 5-15-4

PRINCETON 1-2-1 as of 12/10/2014 Remaining NC - 3
CLARKSON 2-6-2 as of 12/10/2014 Remaining NC - 2
RPI 2-7-1 as of 12/10/2014 Remaining NC - 4

The next 6 weeks will close out much of the OOC competition.

Observations
#1. The three ECAC teams, Princeton, RPI and Clarkson have as many OOC loses as the rest of the league combined. Without this huge drag, the other nine teams would have the best OOC record in College Hockey.
#2. The Ivy OOC record is 12-5-3 is outstanding and would be the best in all of College Hockey if they were a separate league
#3. We have three very important OOC games coming up against three very tough HE teams, Connecticut, UML and BU. Connecticut always plays us tough and its their "Coming out Party" we are attending. UML is #2 in HE and BU is #1 in HE. Going to be very tough.
#4. This coming week our ECAC teams could go 0-6 (... always the optimist)
#5. Robert Morris is 10-1-3 but their SOS is 59 and they are ranked 33 (KRACH). St. Cloud State is 6-7-1 but their SOS is 6 and they are ranked 17 (KRACH). Scheduling and winning against tough OOC teams is critical for making the NCAA tournament. Look at Colgate last year.

Interesting numbers on blocked shots: Ammirato and Wilkins lead for the forwards ..... As a team we are 158 but our opponenst are 236. We should be blocking more shots. Must sacrifice bodies :D

Vasaturo - D 22
Henry - D 14
Brassard - D 12
Gingras - D 11
