Re: UNH Wildcats Official Wait til Next Year...14/15 thread

Here we go OT UvM v UMaine...and hopefully it's not gonna be 5 of 'em!

Re: UNH Wildcats Official Wait til Next Year...14/15 thread

We play Providence or BC. I get it Chuck, but I dunno.

Re: UNH Wildcats Official Wait til Next Year...14/15 thread

If VT loses we play BC. If VT wins we play your Friars.

Re: UNH Wildcats Official Wait til Next Year...14/15 thread

So much for that....

BU - Merrimack
Providence - UNH
BC - Vermont
Lowell - Notre Dame

Re: UNH Wildcats Official Wait til Next Year...14/15 thread

PC it is...

This is my preferred match-up. I disagreed with Chuck about wanting Maine in round one and I disagree with his wanting BC in round two. What this team needs to build for next year, is to keep this winning streak going as long as possible - allowing them to gain confidence, momentum and motivation along the way. I think they'll take a lot more from a series win then they would from getting smoked at Conte.

Don't get me wrong, I think Providence is absolutely the favorite - but I know UNH has an opportunity here. BU is clearly the most talented team in Hockey East this year. They're well ahead of UNH man-for-man. BC plays the same type of game as UNH, but they do so with better skaters, better finishers and better defenders. Lowell plays their own style of hockey and they have flat-out locked up UNH, while capitalizing on seemingly every opportunity, in recent games with the Wildcats.

Providence is a great team, with a great goalie, but I think this is UNH's best opportunity to move on - slim as it may be - and if they do it all comes down to single-elimination and every game is a coin-flip...

4-6-1 the past three years; I like our chances, and I predict the series will go three games.

Thinking PC has not forgotten losing to UNH in the Garden last year...but we'd like to remind them just one more time! yes it's going to be a stretch to get past the/my (ha) Friars but those are the cards! Go 'Cats!!

ps just took a look at the ticket thing at friars.com seems they pick the seats for ya here if I have that right. Thinking going the UNH route is best bet. Anyone else have insight into tix for this?
pss: Cool cheer could be "Better Mascot" clap, clap, clap clap clap!! :p

Agreed 100%. Get to the Garden, and anything can happen. PC, to me, gives us our best chance. Maybe catch Gillies on a bad weekend.

BC isn't BC this year, but I am with you. The Eagles find a way to win. BC could be 0 for the season and I'd worry about them winning out in the playoffs.

IF we get past the Friars - - - single game elimination!

Re: UNH Wildcats Official Wait til Next Year...14/15 thread

Longest winning streak and hottest goalie in college hockey. Friars cannot be happy about drawing UNH.

Maybe tickets easy cuz PC on spring break this week.

That stated, this isn't exactly the best BC or PC program..... In fact, HEA in general appears to be on a down year...
..

not the best BC team but the PC team is up there with their best......agree with HE not being what it used to be but that's because it needs UNH and Maine to come back to the top

Can someone explain to this newbie what the "coffin" reference means...is it the arena itself?

Yes. I think one of the PC fans came up with this over a decade ago. Low attendance and lack of atmosphere at the time defnitely contibuted to the moniker, and it may also have incorporated the drab industrial appearance of the place at the time as well. Throw in the relatively low ceiling (not quite Merrimack, but still lowish), some religious overtones with the school's background, a mascot the same poster referred to as "Friar Spawn", and I believe that all contributed to christening of "The Coffin".

Old Walter Brown Arena had a lower ceiling and a VERY industrial, faceless appeaerance, but that placed was noisy and always rocked (plus they sold beer!). Schneider ... not so much (and no beer). I've always liked the place, though. Maybe that's down to ease of seating, and no bad seats in the entire facility. Our kids always liked the close seating behind the team's benches. As you probably know, the location is kinda weird, in a neighborhood on the very perimeter of the PC campus. Parking used to be a HUGE issue if there was a good turnout (not often to be fair), but that's improved a little in recent years. I haven't seen the place post-renovation yet but hope to make it down there on Friday night.

My prediction: whoever wins Game 1, wins the series. UNH has the momentum, and PC just had the weekend off, and with the Spring break down there, the turnout should be relatively tame. UNH couldn't ask for better overall circumstances. If PC wins on Friday night, they'll sweep. If UNH wins on Friday, they'll win in 3 games. I'll predict the latter, and an improbable return trip to the Garden against either BU :) or BC. :) :) :)

Re: UNH Wildcats Official Wait til Next Year...14/15 thread

So glad that this year we do not have the always cynical Jacques "Rabbit" Poriveau chiming in around this time of the season. :-)
