Re: UNH Wildcats Official Wait til Next Year...14/15 thread

I don't mean to bust on Camper. Certainly it has always seemed that he gives his best at all times. The simple fact is he has three goals this year and Foegele assisted on all of them. It does look like the two of them have found some chemistry in a very short period playing together. I'm quite hopeful we'll see more of it in the near future.

Love the progress shown by Foegele recently. Let us not forget he's still 18. Hoping for at least two full years of this kind of production in our future.

So UConn it is and frankly, I'm glad. I think we've seen enough of Maine for this season ;) And not that I think UConn will be a roll over NOPE. We will have a great series with them and we will def need to be ready!
Congrats to the 'Cats for their 5 game win streak and 2 weekend sweeps. Looking at the final totals it's so interesting to think that just a few points in a few games put us where we are but that is OK. What.A.Season. And it ain't over yet!

Re: UNH Wildcats Official Wait til Next Year...14/15 thread

Nice finish to the regular season, Wildcats. Bring on UConn, then BU!

Re: UNH Wildcats Official Wait til Next Year...14/15 thread

Way to go Cats!

Thanks for the game updates Ref while was at the Pirates/Monarchs game in Portland!

Poturalski will take us the promised land!

We're on to P/UCONN!

Re: UNH Wildcats Official Wait til Next Year...14/15 thread

In the FWIW department; in the five game win streak, UNH outshot their opponents 162-108. The only game they didn't outshoot their opponent was the BU game where BU outshot UNH 34-31!

Wow that is pretty amazing stuff!!! Love this quote by MC's Mark Dennehy: “Right now UNH is playing some good hockey,” said Merrimack coach Mark Dennehy. “I think their best players are their seniors, although that freshman (Poturalski) is good too.” (Seacoast online) You are right e.cat Porturalski is a gamer! (Not a grinder, tho :p ) Last night I spoke to a few of the Frosh who weren't playing (Salvaggio, Chanter and McNicholas) and they said they 'could not wait' for their shot at it. Very exciting future ahead indeed... Onward 'Cats!!

ps Did not realize what a great night offensively both Kelleher (amazing pass to Poturalski for the second goal of the game, much better night for TyK) and Pesce (3 assists) had!

Ya I saw the Dennehy quote on Poturalski. When I read it I was thinking to myself, hmmm!, Poturalski is better than just an afterthought. Some props is/are better than no props I guess!

Thanks again for the updates. I'll be there this weekend come he11 or high water!!

Foegele! It is starting to look like we may not have him and Poturalski for four years. Watching Camper recently, where has this been for 3 plus years? Foegele or not, Jay is a more confident and skilled player. His goals have been big ones and he is finishing when given the opportunity. He continues to battle as always.

The cautionary cloud over the winning streak is the quality of opponents and the timing of when we played them, especially BU. On the other hand you can only play the teams on the schedule.

Great photo of Wildcat hockey fans.

Sorry that I cannot attend games next weekend as I will at a conference. But, I will be at Agganis on Friday the 13th, if that match up comes to pass. Go Cats!

Oh my favorite barn outside of the 'Whitt! Seriously just to get us back on the front page....Gotta buy my HE tix today before the place sells out and I lose my usual seats...;)
Guess they go on sale for the rest of the world at noon?

Really enjoyed the past two weekends and I hear what you are saying Darius about getting "too excited" about the sweeps and the 5 game win streak. But gotta say it felt good to be in that position
and the 'Cats have been working towards that little by little. Looking back over the season I see that 5 game losing 'streak' and that wasn't so fun. All part of the process.

Now with 2 big years in as a fan (ha!) have to say that I felt more frustrated last season. No offense about that team I miss every single one of 'em but it seemed like we had talent and the wins were hard to come by at times. Still making it to the Garden was great and beating my 'go to' Friars was sweet. What would be even sweeter would be to see this team make it back there....of course that's another conversation!
Never mind...Snively I know you have other plans!!!

Hope everyone has a good week and get out to the 'Whitt if you can this weekend. Supposed to be 40degrees around these parts mid week, that will feel like a heat wave! Go 'Cats!!

HR, Aerman - was REALLY great to meet you! I'm feeling a little under-pompom'ed in that photo, though I did try to find as much Blue and white as I could muster. Unfortunately, my UNH sweaters (including the "tin man" 3rd) are scattered all over.

If I was going to get to see one game live this year, man this was a fun one. A shutout, a sort of passing of the scoring torch from GD to Poturalski, senior night, and a classic "toss 'em all" approach after the fight.

Tempted to try to get my better half to let me come back for the home series, but I don't think she'll bite.

HR, Emily wishes your daughter well in New Zealand. We are both a bit jealous!!

Re: UNH Wildcats Official Wait til Next Year...14/15 thread

I realize that the PWR will not matter this year for the Cats, but we did leapfrog the Warriors with the sweep, into a tie for 30th with the HEA poseurs Notre Dame at 28 points. The Warriors dropped to a tie for 33rd with Union and Cornell at 26 points. Rounding out the rest, UConn 38th with 21 points, Bentley 39th with 20 points, Maine tied for 41st with 17 points, and UMass 45th with 15 points.

Willows now has 85 career points, so will probably need to take us all the way to the FF if he is going to make the century mark.

UNH Sweeps Merrimack, Earns Home Ice: Goal-by-Goal
Includes video highlights plus table comparing Andrew Poturalski's scoring with Century Club members of the last 20 years.

While I am thrilled at how well our Andrew P is doing this season...am blown away by those 4 year totals by players like Krog, Haydar (guys before my UNH fan time, sadly). Seriously??? Wow, what was THAT like watching all of those goals go in the net?????? I'd be beside myself. Just sayin'. 238 points in 4 years? Am I reading that table right or did I miss something in translation (which would not surprise me) Whaaatttt???

ps I am aware that there are obviously assists sprinkled in those totals but man, they don't make 'em like they used to!!!

98-99 team had top 4 forwards score 56, 59, 60, 66 points spread over 2 lines. The next year Krog (66 pts) was the only one left (2 sr and 1 jr left) scored 85, Souza jr wing scored 65 and Haydar freshman on his line scored 61. Krog was the ring leader.

Team was just short falling in ot, close as we have come. I will always wonder what if Bekar (jr that left - 60 pts in 98-99) had stayed. He only played 11 NHL games over 11 pro seasons.

Very interesting Mike. Poturalski off to a great start compared to some outstanding UNH players. He is one of those guys that has a knack for putting it in the back of the net. Obviously, your linemates(Kelleher) are critical to your success but Poturalski delivers Love it!!

The game seems to slow down with the puck on his stick. One goal Friday was amazing patients with the puck.
