Well good for him! I see they named Hillary Witt as the new Women's coach...Oops you are one step ahead of me! Why does that name sound familiar?

Re: UNH Wildcats - Marty Scarano

Hilary Witt has been involved with the U.S. Women’s National Team over the last seven years, helping the U.S. win a pair of gold medals (2011, 2013) and two silver medals (2007, 2012) at the IIHF Women’s World Championship. She also helped Team USA capture the Four Nations Cup title in 2011 and 2012, along with a second-place finish in 2010. Witt also serves as head scout.

The Canton, Mass. native joined USA Hockey in July 2012 after two seasons as assistant coach at Northeastern University. Prior to that, Witt spent nine campaigns at Yale University (2001-10), including eight as the head coach of the women’s ice hockey team. She was named the 2002-03 ECAC Women’s Hockey Coach of the Year.

As a player, Witt competed on the U.S. Women’s National Team in 2001 and was a two-time All-ECAC selection while playing for Northeastern. She was inducted into the Northeastern Hall of Fame in 2005 and the Women’s Beanpot Hall of Fame in 2010.

Thanks! That's awesome and I hope this will turn this program around and back to greatness!

Re: UNH Wildcats - Marty Scarano

Based solely on her results at Yale, I am underwhelmed. Don't know how to factor the US Team experience. It's kinda like trying to figure out how much to credit KC Jones versus Larry, Kevin and Robert.

Re: UNH Wildcats - Marty Scarano

It's a BS35 hire, so let's judge him by how his chosen coach fares going forward. I'm certainly willing to give them both the benefit of the doubt, at least from the outset. Probably more so to Coach Witt than to Blue Skies, admittedly though. :)

Fire Marty.

Those were two of the players that this team could least afford to lose.

That's unfortunate! You can hardly blame them for wanting to be in a program that offers stability and success. Both things that I'm sure Ms. Witt will work to bring back to UNH when she starts. The great tradition of this program certainly deserves it. This could've been avoided...maybe...if those meetings that were promised to the team were held. That goes along way with the trust and "we care about your future" feelings. These kids today live in a YOLO world and they deserve to be where they feel they will be the most happy/successful. Perhaps this will be a huge wake up call to the powers that be at the college...or not.

Pretty impressive..??? I think not....Marty is turning a couple of condemned squash courts into a glorified study hall for D-1 athletes... for $1.9M....(what's wrong with the library?...aren't these kids isolated enough from the rest of the student body...????) This guy has to go...enough already....everything he touches turns to s____!

Re: UNH Wildcats - Marty Scarano

It's hard to ignore that whenever something really negative emerges from "behind the curtain" of UNH Athletics, within 24 hours BS35 rolls out the latest of his "visionary" projects.

Maybe before we could say how this may have just been coincidental ... that's becoming increasingly difficult.

Athletes: BS35 promised to include us in the process. Then he broke those promises.
BS35: Whatever. Grow up. No one cares. *poof* Latest "visionary* project to the media.

You have to wonder how many other "projects" BS35 has stacked up for the next slew of crap to hit the fan.

I guess that "gag order" on the Women's Hockey team is really paying dividends now ... :p

Mishandled it just about every step of the way, and then the icing on the cake is from Ms. Armstrong: “We just didn’t feel like we were supported by our athletic department.”

Marty must go.
