Can they afford him? Yes. I'd imagine they could make him the highest paid employee in the state. They've done that before for less return on investment. Will they want to afford him? No, probably not...

I know you're joking about the second point, by IF he did have issues with recruiting/academics - I can say without question Gwoz would pay enough attention to what was coming down the pike. He wouldn't be caught off guard. He'd also fight those decisions like hell instead of just quietly accepting them and tucking them away to use as a chip to excuse future results.

JB is right, Souza is getting the job. Bold by Scarano standards is asking Umile to coach only three more years and pick his successor. But it's nice to dream of even for a moment...

This is also true - Barring huge winning under the guy they grab instead. Souza's they guy. That's set. BUT, they need to remember he's already had three years and have a much shorter leash than they would with a typical hire...

Read what was agreed... It has been posted here a number of times. Does the current product look like it is going the right direction? So is the AD obligated to give the reward even without the performance?

Better question.

I wasn't joking. UNH is very much of the academics is first, athletics is not mind set. I have no problem with this, was wondering if Gwoz would. I suspect the institutional pressure to consistently compete for and win championships is higher at Denver than UNH and Gwoz is a Denver kind of guy.

Ok, under that perspective I don't think Gwoz would have a huge issue. Denver is a high academic institution that - at least outwardly - takes pride in the student-athlete performance and targets academically inclined recruits. They do get foreign prospects in, they have taken kids late in the process and work together - athletics/academics (not against each other) - but they're not getting anyone they want. Gwoz didn't have a reputation for skirting academics. I believe with certainty he'd be fully aware of requirements and never be blindsided (the real issues at UNH stem from being on a different page then admissions and not monitoring its recruits)...

There are also SO many hockey recruits, who are also great students, available. It's not a problem at ND, BU or BC for example. It wouldn't be a problem at UNH (high state school standards or not) for a coach paying attention.

Would he lose his mind if admissions refused to even review an application? Yeah, probably so. Would he fight to get recruits like Cam Reid or Matt White into a CC language class? Yup. Instead Umile just took it and walked away from the talent. Gwoz would certainly make a better effort - maybe out of anger or frustration - but an effort none the less...

He's getting older and closer to retirement - but I can't imagine he's happy to walk away from his career with the ending he had at Denver. At some point some school should take a shot on him as an immediate upgrade and bridge coach. But it won't be UNH. UNH has Souza!

BTW, Vela ties it at 1 after one. MacAdams takes a five-minute major at, essentially, the final whistle. He's starting to drift over the line of physical play to taking to many liberties...

(And UC scores past the two min mark of the PP, 2-1....)

They're in serious jeopardy of getting swept by UConn (down 2-1 currently and getting outshot 16-1 in the second), they already lost to MC, nearly were run off the ice at UVM (score not withstanding) back when they were playing 'well' and couldn't manage a win at Maine. Northeastern is much better than UNH. Whoever they play in the first round it's likely to be on the road. Missing 600 is a real possibility...

I think that not winning another game this season is a real possibility. This team is really snakebit, taking insane penalties, and likely completely uncoachable now. :-(

I wonder if the players are torn and confused as to who to listen to. DU or MS! Afterall, DU is a lame duck!

I'm also in the Springs and get to watch my other team (the alma mater), who is also having a terrible season have (like UNH) another terrible weekend! They lost 6-3 to a CC team I still think is awful, last night. Between UNH and Miami - Just a lot of good hockey in my world right now. Both staring at potential last place finishes...

All part of the master plan, Snively. Winless the rest of the way, get the 11 seed and a trip to The Team in Orono Whose Number We Have in the Make Believe round of the playoffs
