UNH Wildcats 2015-2016 (Part Three) - Living in Interesting Times

Re: UNH Wildcats 2015-2016 (Part Three) - Living in Interesting Times

Best example that I saw this season that might seemingly support your SOG thesis, Chuck, was UNH 3-2 win at UML in early February (UML won SOG 53-16). But, I would be hard pressed to describe any "flow" to that game, other than an extreme roller coaster ride, always downhill towards the UNH end, with Tirone blocking shots off his mask, pads, stick, whatever, and the Ospreys incapable of putting the puck in a wide-open net over a flopping Tirone.

Was at that one! Worked for us...first win over the "Ospreys" in 7 tries...

Saw their 2 time Champion coach shown the door after wanting more money while slowly backsliding.

Re: UNH Wildcats 2015-2016 (Part Three) - Living in Interesting Times

Any AD who lets himself be taken hostage by any hockey coach* is an idiot who shouldn't have been put in charge of a concession stand let alone an athletic department. There are only 60 D1 jobs, and a third of those are entry level/bottom feeder. There are far more than 40 guys capable of successfully running a D1 hockey program. Go find one. Get off your cushy @zz and go find one.

Scarano was either too green to know he was getting caught up in needless panic, too lazy to dig in and find someone else, or too caught up in the Durham Don't Rock the Boat Bubble (see an earlier post of mine) to actually lead the athletic department. Instead he let the hockey coach lead it. And this is where we are because of it.

*Jerry York being the only possible exception.

My golf course opened today .... I thought I'd be able to forget about UNH Hockey. But no ....sitting at the bar next to a couple of people I did not even know and one of them mentioned UNH Hockey. We then determined that there we had almost 85 years of season ticket holdings between us ......

Then the other shoe hit the floor .... not one of us is going to renew his ticket for next year and the only commonality in our opinions was what only be called the "hangingonness" of the current HC.

Does the AD have any idea of the depth of the decay occurring out there in the seasoned fan base .... only one word comes to mind ..... sad.

Re: UNH Wildcats 2015-2016 (Part Three) - Living in Interesting Times

Any word yet on the captain and co-captains for next season?

Usually revealed at the team's end-of-season banquet ... so we'll probably know later this month?

April 23...I'll put it out here asap

ps watching this Bruins lead evaporate reminds me of, oh, never mind...

Not a lot of Seniors to choose from so Kelleher/Cleland. One with the C, the other with an A. As with last year my vote is for TK. Hill gets an A. Maller a letter only if no lessons learned from this past season's oft injured captain experiment.

I'm not sure I'd put a letter on Hill, either. Maller at least played regularly starting as a frosh when he was healthy. Until this season, I don't think you could say the same for Hill. I'm fine with any combo of Kelleher and Cleland.

Agreed on Hill. I'd not give him a letter, but think he might get one as a dedicated 5 year player.

Personally, I'd be totally ok with Hill getting an "A". Granted he has a short track record for a lot of mins but he's a plugger out there who has a lot of spirit for the team, sooo....But am really hoping/expecting that TyK gets the "C"...guess we'll find out! Somehow, I won't be totally surprised if Cleland gets the C for some reason...

I would be ok with any combination of those three. In some respects, I would prefer TyK not be standing around the video review bench waiting for refs trying to make decisions. But, of course, leadership is most important, and leading by example trumps seniority, in my opinion.

Didn't know (or remember) Hill was a fifth year senior!

I'm good with these guys also though.

I'd be very surprised if Cleland isn't a 'C' (as I type away on my phone from Longmont, CO) and Kelleher should get at least an 'A'. I wouldn't be surprised to see them go back to choosing two C's (with or without an 'A') as they have done at times in the past. Most recently with Borisenok and Kipp...

If they choose another 'A' then Hill and Maller are likely choices as seniors, though neither one really fits the bill. I could also see them also going off the board to a sophomore or junior who may have leadership abilities that are not as apparent to us fans. Who might that be...??

Not a lot of clear choices outside of the obvious two, so I'd bet on two C's but wouldn't be surprised if they stick to the more common tradition or even to see a soph pick up a long term leadership opportunity a la Foley...

Can't comment on how he looked in his draft year as I never saw him back then, so maybe he's improved a lot since then. But, he looks pretty **** good out there. He's got excellent wheels, he gets in on the forecheck quickly, and his got good hands. He's also made a pretty smooth transition to center. He's good on faceoffs, and he's responsible defensively.

I don't think he's going to be a natural goal scorer. This latest streak is just that; a hot streak. I also don't think he's a natural playmaker like his goals to assist ratio would suggest. He's just been a good offensive player who compliments his linemates' game very well.

8 goals and 1 assist in 5 first-round games.

Not bad for a third or fourth line winger

Eiserman? It would be off the board. Maller, Hill much more likely.
