How 'bout them Riverhawks!?! Congrats to Coach Bazin - amazing turnaround under his watch at Lowell, and contrary to his doubters, it looks set to continue, so long as the school keeps him happy.

What a game...watching the Huskies give Demko a fit 4-2 NU...uh make that 4-3 NU

Yeah and there in lies the rub harrumph. These guys here just plain compete...period. Not sure how you coach that but Leaman and Bazin seem to get it out if 'em. Sorry yes I'll take some cheese with that whine !! 😉 Onto the second OT the hockey is amazing...And now the third...

Hey, didn't we beat UML during the regular useason?

Yes and PC too with PC being the better of the two games. Wow what a night at the TD! Just saying the compete level is night and day and makes the diff down the stretch...Tonight should be interesting will the refs swallow their whistles or....Gotta give NU props but not sure if they have the goal tending ...pulling for them tho!!

Re: UNH Wildcats 2015-2016 (Part Three) - Living in Interesting Times

Congrats to UML and Northeastern. Ordinarily I'd be over the moon about BC gacking it up late, throwing goalie sticks, taking really dumb non-BC-like penalties ... but you just *know* that somewhere in NE Connecticut, a balding, smarmy, self-important gnome-like creature is snickering, channeling his inner Bill Belichick, reminding himself (if not the outside world - if the press can even be located and bothered to listen) how Coach York hasn't ever won the D-1 title at BC without him. Go ahead, I dare you - tell me I'm wrong.

It's almost - and yes, *just* almost - enough to make you want to root for BC in the big tourney.

But then again, I'm sure Luce would come up with a theory of how he's connected to that one too.

Interesting...because clearly BC seems to have more pure talent, but they have suffered from something that plagues BU all the time...inconsistent effort. They played in spurts last night, and that's not good enough in a game like that. But...maybe the assistant coaches DO have something to do with that...:)

Next thing you know the BC fans will chime in and say that lack of big game performance is because of the assistant coach that is still there.

Wow...NU who knew with their start. Amazing and well that's all I have to say about that. (Forrest G reference). So agree with K.Roy when he says that it's a culture that creates winning. Played out big time for them.

Congrats to the Northeastern Huskies and senior captain Kevin Roy, who showed how it should be done. Bravo!!

For all the heat Coach Madigan has taken at times on these boards - especially from our crew - he's a coach who convinced his top player to stick around for four years, got him and the rest of his guys to believe, never gave up when they were virtually buried to the rest of the college hockey world, and took home the HE Tourney trophy to Huntington Ave. for the first time in over a generation. The payoff tonight has to be incredibly sweet for Roy, Madigan and the rest of the Huskies. And although it means Coach Bazin and the Riverhawks had to come up short, the fact that NU overcame a tough tourney-hardened opponent only adds deserved cache to their title.

Meanwhile in Durham ...

Was that a not so veiled shot at someone who stands behind the Wildcats bench??? :)

Nope, just a reflection that in addition to ability/talent...that has to happen. After watching that hockey this weekend I'm convinced it takes that gritty attitude coupled with obvious talent. Seemed like NU steam rolled their way to where they are; they quietly and efficiently won (and deservedly so). When we had that great second half run (and yes I know it was on a softer side of the schedule) that team found a way to win at PC and get to the Garden. Didn't happen on luck. Same stuff has to transfer and be a big part of it. This is what the culture of winning begets. Let's get to it. (And the sooner the better)

You are correct. But that's why it's sports and not a movie. We don't know how it will turn out, and it's the intangibles that make it so exciting. But I also think it requires hunger, and I'm not sure how much of that there is right now at UNH (not pointing at individual players, either)... You have to bring it every day with your best effort. I'm not saying that's easy...but that's what it takes and the reward is sweet.

EDIT: It's too late at night and after re-reading my post, I don't think I'm making a lot of sense, so I'm calling it a day....

I get it. Speaking of late nights, last night was epic for hockey...we didn't get to our hotel until what, 1:15 ish? Watched from home tonight~

As much as I root for my Terriers, I must admit that it's a great thing for hockey, both in Boston and Hockey East, for the other "dogs" in town to have won.

I will bet that their senior captain was having second thoughts as he sat in the stands with an injury for those 12 games early in the season, watching his team get swept by Bentley. McMurtry and Sauceman also had fine senior seasons, but their freshman goaltender saved the the Huskies, I think. Maybe there was hope for the Cats with the arrival of Mike Robinson in September, but now?

Can't remember who but someone here talked about (I believe it is/was a Dave Lassonde quote) that you don't need the 'best guys...just the right ones' to win hockey games/championships. I think NU had the 'right guys' who latched onto that 'culture of winning' that Kevin Roy talks about in his post game pressers. Everyone has to buy into that, it has to be nurtured and you bring it everynight like he said. I'm hopeful this dismal season lights a fire under us; Robinson or no. I'm not counting on one person necessarily to right the ship; has to be a collective effort. Still, hoping he comes aboard nonetheless but am not counting on the success of next year per se for his arrival. I really believe it's guys like Eiserman, who can be a work horse, that has to step up and get it going EARLY in the season and keep it going. Loved the development of Nazarian and Vela had some great stuff too. All is not lost...if a team can go 1-12-2 and win a HE title heck anything is possible. I doubt anyone in HE saw that coming back in Dec.

Watched the QU v Harvard game last night in between the HE game; now there's a team (QU) who executes I must say. Going to be a great NCAA tourney...

Looks like six HEA teams in the NCAAs? And, 10 of 16 from the east, if we count NICC and RIT?

... but the leadership has to come from the very top, and when your team messes up a simple leadership decision before the season even begins - heck, barely after the previous season has finished - and you're too busy sharpening up your golf game at Mount Hood to be bothered to set it straight ... that's a clear sign something was (is?) missing. I'm not saying that one decision ruined the season (clearly the talent was limited to begin with), but it sure was an early sign that someone important wasn't exactly sweating over the details.

The process for next year's team begins soon enough - and I know some would argue that process has been ongoing for several years' worth of recruiting - and hopefully they will avoid some of the same pitfalls that helped to scuttle this past season so ingloriously.

FWIW I wouldn't bet against Northeastern in the D-1 tourney. At least someone with a good sense of humor has placed them in the same bracket as NICC - although I'm betting on Michigan to end NICC's dreams of a rematch. :D Otherwise, I'm all in for Lowell (just because), and it looks like it will be an epic 2nd round matchup between PC and BC to see who earns a trip to the Frozen Four.

Agreed, NU hottest team in Div 1 since December (the "anti-Champions of December"?).

Maybe RIT will beat Quinnipiac and UML(Yale) like they did against DU and who a few years ago?

Agree it has to be from the top and wouldn't look past NU either... On another note it was great to attend the Women's FF today. Wasn't going but thought these events don't come around often was well worth it. Most interested in the Amanda Kessel story and she delivered. Cool atmosphere with both bands and mascots etc...And one last chance to see the 'Whitt ice. 😉
