UNH Wildcats 2014/2015 - Wait 'Til Next Year!!!

Re: UNH Wildcats 2014/2015 - Wait 'Til Next Year!!!

Adam Clark was very solid in net Friday night, which was very good for UNH as the team was very sluggish and lackluster until later in the third. He made the save of the game late in OT on a well set up DC one timer from the left dot. As has been pointed out, it was a tie that felt like a win.

The students can't get back to campus soon enough. It was a little embarrassing Friday with a national NBCSN broadcast that the Whitt was as loud as a crypt for the most part. Not only were there many empty seats in the Whitt at 7:30, it was sad to see how many spectators actually left the building and didn't care to stay to the end of OT. I've seen that for years at the Whitt though, so it's nothing new.

Re: UNH Wildcats 2014/2015 - Wait 'Til Next Year!!!

The NBCSN announcer insisted on calling Clark "Grant" throughout the game. Adam Grant? Grant Clark? We'll never know. AJ tried to help him out.

A lot of the weekend's televised games had fairly empty arenas. There was one empty seat in the Whitt, a full one in the Manchvegas recliner in front of the NBCSN HD broadcast. Guilty!

Think break ends this Friday? Just in time for our home game v UMass...Personally when things got interesting the place came alive with cheers getting started from the "student section" end. Too bad people leave; they missed a dandy of a comeback! Of course expecting a sell out (hopefully) for the annual "white out the Whitt" UNH v Maine home game week after next!

Re: UNH Wildcats 2014/2015 - Wait 'Til Next Year!!!

The NFL is borderline unwatchable on TV, attending a game must be unbearable. My TV solution is to multitask with work or domestic chores or simultaneously view other events like NCAA hockey during yesterday's Pats game. There's also the DVR. NCAA football with far fewer timeouts and rules that keep the game flowing is much easier to watch. The NBA is completely unwatchable (this from a former huge fan through the Bird/Magic/Michael era). I don't even bother with the NHL pre (regular) season as the regular (post) season actually begins around the time cabin fever officially ends and concludes during Independence Day fireworks. MLB is still OK because of the natural breaks between innings and no forced timeouts, but they should be cautious of increased reviews in a game that is already tedious for today's youth. Right on with FIFA. I've been watching the EPL on NBC/NBCSN. What 20 years ago was comparatively nothing going on for most of 90+ minutes is now relatively fast and constant paced. So is the PGA tour. Lately I find myself watching UNH games on TV vs. attending at the Whitt because the televised games are not as enjoyable in person, take 15 - 20 minutes longer to complete. Back in the day the game after the game was to be back in Manch by 10:00 PM. It never happened, but was often a near miss. Now with all the delays and the late Friday starts I barely get home for the WMUR replays.

The kick in the head about Friday's offside call is that according to the announcers the call would not have been reviewable if the game were not televised. A. J. Mleczko commented that different sets of rules for televised/non-televised games is ridiculous.

Stop the presses. Darius and myself are in agreement. Will wonders never cease??

That was very lame! Watching the replays I was like, 'who is this Grant guy'. Where did he get that? Clueless...:p

Re: UNH Wildcats 2014/2015 - Wait 'Til Next Year!!!

No clue who asked for it (the goal review) but I have a feeling it was an official who had it in the back of his mind and after the goal was scored brought the info forth. Just gathering this from convo from the FOMH meeting which followed the game. But as I said immediately following the game We.Did.Not.Lose. which was very positive considering our play in the first. Adam Clark really deserves a lot of credit for keeping this one close!

ps e.cat speaking of football did you see where North Dakota State beat Illinois by 2? Would've rather have seen a blow out by NDSU can only imagine how that must feel to the UNH players...

I did not. Thanks for the link. You're right the football team must feel like they let one slip away. What I'm gorna do!!

Re: UNH Wildcats 2014/2015 - Wait 'Til Next Year!!!

The call that irks me the most in football is when a player makes an incredibly athletic catch on a ball in the endzone and review shows both feet in but a slight bobble indicating lack of control negating the touchdown.

In hockey, it's offsides! Especially now it is reviewable. This is a case where the refs should be penalized for too many refs on the ice! The refs influenced the outcome of the game and that is wrong. I can see reviewing goals but not offsides!

Your question about what prompted the review is an interesting one. Hope itwasn't Lassonde who asked for it!

Similar case in point; The Des Bryant catch in the game against Green Bay today that was reversed. Great athletic catch and under review showed a bobble after he hit the ground. Terrible rule!

Since I'm a Green Bay fan, I thought it was a good challenge. I wonder if Chris Christie was at the game with Jerry wearing his lucky sweater!??

Karma from the horrendous reversal that turned the Dallas-Detroit WC playoff game last weekend finally caught up with "America's Team". I am sitting here smiling - oops, er, I mean - sobbing my eyes out at the gross injustice of it all. :D

We agree again!

Re: UNH Wildcats 2014/2015 - Wait 'Til Next Year!!!

Interesting that the Asst. Coaches "reversed" their duties...will look for that Tues v Providence. Wonder how that came about but now that I think of it wasn't Stewart a forward in his past life and didn't he coach the offense at Mack? Whatever it takes! Great article and vid clips thank you!!

I think that the answers are yes and yes. And, Scott Borek also played wing for only two seasons in college. Do the Cats need an associate coach who has played on D?

Re: UNH Wildcats 2014/2015 - Wait 'Til Next Year!!!

Umile, Borek and Stewart were all forwards as players. Not sure you "need" an assistant with playing experience as a defenseman, and I'm not sure whether Tortorella and/or Lassonde had that background in their playing experiences?

It seems in recent seasons, organizing a solid defense has not been a big issue at UNH. Rather, not having the explosive offensive talent as in years past HAS been a bigger issue. That, and that whole postseason thingie ...

I know Lassonde was a goalie, (Spalding HS, Providence College) pretty sure Tortorella was as well

Yes, Jim T was a goalie (at UMaine played with his brother the infamous John Torts). Chuck is right; the 'tables are turned' abit at the U with the difference in offensive talent made available in recent years. Still..I believe they have gotten alot out of those kids in my limited view of course of being a fan for a short amount of time. ;) Doesn't matter much to me who coaches who quite honestly so long as we show up to play. Can't afford to be asleep at the wheel the first 54 minutes against PC.

Let's see what how we match up with the Friars this time around...imagine it will be Gilles in goal. I'm sure PC isn't very happy with their last outing against Brown and HE points are on the line.

ps ICYMI: cool article about how Danny T is fitting in and there's football too for you football fanatics:

Re: UNH Wildcats 2014/2015 - Wait 'Til Next Year!!!

I'm wondering who gets the start in net for UNH tonight? Does Adam Clark get the nod after his very good performance against Dartmouth or will it be Tirone? Anyway, this is a HE matchup against a team that has given UNH a tough game in recent times. I'd like to see the Cats have a better start than last Friday night. We shall see...

As I said a week ago, this next string of games will give us a pretty good idea of what to expect down the stretch. I have no expectations, but maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised. If nothing else, the fact that Chuck and Darius are agreeing on all kinds of things here on the thread makes me optimistic for the future...:D

Re: UNH Wildcats 2014/2015 - Wait 'Til Next Year!!!

I agree with Chuck more than many seem to seem to think, unfortunately the USCHO Fan Forum lacks a like button.

15 games, 7 home, 8 including a nasty 7 of 9 stretch away remain. The Friars are obviously going to be a tough W, but through the blue tinted shades a UMA sweep and 3 of 4 from ME and ND. After that things get dicey. Even if I stick with my team on the upswing prediction from a month or 2 ago it is hard to imagine finishing the remainder at .500 without a consistent scoring uptick.

Hopefully chuck disagrees in a positive way. :)

Who made famous the expression "nattering nabobs of negativism"? Ok, good for you; but, who wrote it?
