mk....actually I am all out at this time; having given them away to kids at the 'Whitt. But we do sit in the section 101 and are quite...vocal. ;)

Re: UNH Wildcats 2014/2015 - Wait 'Til Next Year!!!

The link to the stream on NBC Live Extra says coverage concluded. Seriously? Of all the URLs to mess up?

Re: UNH Wildcats 2014/2015 - Wait 'Til Next Year!!!

From College Hockey News Live Box, appears like a gutty comeback tie for the Cats tonight. I was beginning to think that SOG was going to mean something in this game, especially over the first 53 minutes, but the Cats proved me wrong, yet again. SOG must be totally meaningless. Of course, I jest, as it appears that the Cats finally made the most of the man advantage very late in the game. But, a point is a point.

Good luck to the Cats this coming Tuesday night. After almost a month of sitting around, my Antarctic field season has been scrubbed, so hoping to be back in time for games next weekend. Been much warmer here in McMurdo than Durham the past couple of weeks.

It was great to see the team come back esp after a lack luster first period. Clarky kept them in the game when it counted. The Cleland goal was a beauty and the offsides call was very odd to say the least. Lots of credit to the scrappy play of the Downing line in the third which proved fruitful. He worked harder than ever and deserved those goals...great pass from Willows for the tying point. Glad you can come home sooner than later Snively65 and join us at the Whitt! Here comes Providence!

Re: UNH Wildcats 2014/2015 - Wait 'Til Next Year!!!

I can't believe Bullock only received a minor penalty and didn't get a major penalty and game misconduct for the charge/boarding/felonious assault on Eiserman in OT. That was an ultra cheap shot. I hope Eiserman is okay. He skated away but looked like he was on Cuckoo Street.

The hit wasn't deserving of a major penalty.

Watch the Copp hit on Rau in the Michigan/Minnesota game for an example of a hit worth a 5 min major.

Re: UNH Wildcats 2014/2015 - Wait 'Til Next Year!!!

Perhaps watching it from a head-on perspective, seeing Bullock wind up from center ice, and seeing Eiserman's face bounce off the dasher in front of the Dartmouth bench clouded my judgment.

I don't normally agree with the Royals about anything but I think you are right about this one sire;) They also missed a hit from behind where Kelleher was buried just before the game tying goal by Downing!

2-2 tie but it feels like a win and a gutsy performance by the "blue collar" Cats!

Totally agree that both of those hits were deserving of more than they received and Eiserman really took it hard to the head from our view. I won't be surprised if he's out Tuesday for Providence.

I really have to hand it to the 'Cats coming back. Right before the Downing first goal this little boy said to his mom "these people shouldn't leave the Wildcats could come back" ;)

I don't know about the rest of you folks ... but I've really hit my limit of toleration for the "video review" culture. Goal Cams which can determine if the puck goes entirely over the goal line, I'm fine with that. But when we get into the other stuff ... really, where do we draw the line on what gets reviewed, and what doesn't? That's the problem the NFL is encountering now, and (speaking personally) I have to admit the over-reliance on video reviews is really just sucking the flow (and fun) out of the games for me. NFL, NBA, MLB and even the NHL and the NCAA equivalents. It's just overdone.

This is really one where the soccer powers-that-be at FIFA have gotten it right, and our North American sports are getting it wrong. Goal line technology, sure, let's use it. But can't we just live with the rest of the stuff evening out, and allowing the human element to exist with officials who are (for better or for worse) every bit as human as the players?

The origin and intent of the offsides rule was/is to prevent goal-hanging, first and foremost, and secondarily to allow a team stuck in its own end of the ice to catch a momentary breather by getting the puck out of their zone. Is the world going to end if a skater enters the attacking zone a nanosecond before the puck does? In an era where goalies, their equipment and pads get bigger and bigger, and the size of the net stays the same ... I can live with some wiggle room on strict enforcement of offsides, and ditch the video replays. JMHO.

Totally agree Chuck and you are right officials are human too glad you pointed that out! When it came down that it was an offsides call the crowd booed as you'd expect losing a goal but esp for that! In fact the crowd didn't let it go and every subsequent offsides call was met with incredulous "applause".

Seems that's a call if you are going to make its right when it happens (I mean always seems that way) and wonder who/ what prompted the review; Dartmouth staff or one of the officials who had it in the back of their mind when it happened then the goal gets score so it's oops gotta fix that? Which as an official I've offered "after the fact info" myself. The video review confirms UNH is indeed offsides when they come into the zone but they play for 15 seconds (give or take) and it's only after a goal is scored its rung up? Whatever not worth going all Phyliss on it haha ;).

No matter we found a way to get back in the game and a tie we'll take!

So, the zebras miss a Cats off sides that they call following a video review way afterwards, but let a Green head shot boarding call stand as just a 2-min minor? Something sounds badly amiss here. I expect better from Gravel.

However, I agree on the overuse of video replay. I was ok with the rare review of controversial home run balls in MLB, but not all of the other stuff now, which is merely speeding up the slow death of our national pastime.

Re: UNH Wildcats 2014/2015 - Wait 'Til Next Year!!!

I don't like the overturning of offsides ever but the goalie interference stuff needs to be able to review.

Re: UNH Wildcats 2014/2015 - Wait 'Til Next Year!!!

With regards to the offsides I was completely in shock. I knew coming into the year that they expanded replay to include offsides calls. I didn't realize that they could look back as long as the puck remains in the zone. 11 seconds after a missed call seems excessive to me. UNH did nothing to cause the refs to miss that call. If it's a missed call on a 2 on 1 or something like last year (I forget the game and teams but the player was 2 strides offsides when he received the puck on a breakaway) then I understand it. But outside of that missed calls happen and it's part of the game.

The call that irks me the most in football is when a player makes an incredibly athletic catch on a ball in the endzone and review shows both feet in but a slight bobble indicating lack of control negating the touchdown.

In hockey, it's offsides! Especially now it is reviewable. This is a case where the refs should be penalized for too many refs on the ice! The refs influenced the outcome of the game and that is wrong. I can see reviewing goals but not offsides!

Your question about what prompted the review is an interesting one. Hope itwasn't Lassonde who asked for it!

No clue who asked for it (the goal review) but I have a feeling it was an official who had it in the back of his mind and after the goal was scored brought the info forth. Just gathering this from convo from the FOMH meeting which followed the game. But as I said immediately following the game We.Did.Not.Lose. which was very positive considering our play in the first. Adam Clark really deserves a lot of credit for keeping this one close!

ps e.cat speaking of football did you see where North Dakota State beat Illinois by 2? Would've rather have seen a blow out by NDSU can only imagine how that must feel to the UNH players...

The NFL is borderline unwatchable on TV, attending a game must be unbearable. My TV solution is to multitask with work or domestic chores or simultaneously view other events like NCAA hockey during yesterday's Pats game. There's also the DVR. NCAA football with far fewer timeouts and rules that keep the game flowing is much easier to watch. The NBA is completely unwatchable (this from a former huge fan through the Bird/Magic/Michael era). I don't even bother with the NHL pre (regular) season as the regular (post) season actually begins around the time cabin fever officially ends and concludes during Independence Day fireworks. MLB is still OK because of the natural breaks between innings and no forced timeouts, but they should be cautious of increased reviews in a game that is already tedious for today's youth. Right on with FIFA. I've been watching the EPL on NBC/NBCSN. What 20 years ago was comparatively nothing going on for most of 90+ minutes is now relatively fast and constant paced. So is the PGA tour. Lately I find myself watching UNH games on TV vs. attending at the Whitt because the televised games are not as enjoyable in person, take 15 - 20 minutes longer to complete. Back in the day the game after the game was to be back in Manch by 10:00 PM. It never happened, but was often a near miss. Now with all the delays and the late Friday starts I barely get home for the WMUR replays.

The kick in the head about Friday's offside call is that according to the announcers the call would not have been reviewable if the game were not televised. A. J. Mleczko commented that different sets of rules for televised/non-televised games is ridiculous.
