From the box, sounds like Nostradamus was spot on about the closeness of the score, but Chuck finally suffered a setback in his SOG run. Despite the close losses, our young team is gaining valuable experience, which should pay dividends when the schedule gets a bit easier in mid-February.

Well glad to have visited another HE rink despite our lack luster second period. Here's to experience gained I suppose. Glad to see Willows continuing on his scoring and Furgele as well. Maine v NH...two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl, ha! Alittle Pink Floyd just fer fun.

Fordham qb had a good up close look at the Cowell field turf maybe 5 or 6 times...I lost count. One sour note, Jimmy Owens, who busted UNH's first play from scrimmage for a long touchdown, left the game in the second quarter with a knee injury. Hopefully he's good to go next weekend. I hope the game is Saturday as a Friday night game absolutely does not work with my schedule...c'mon NCAA! Come through on that! I haven't looked at the long range weather forecast either for the Chattanooga game. Hopefully it will be more "fan friendly" for the rest of the UNH faithful to come out.

Weather is supposed to be reasonably good (flurries) but cold, especially since it's a night game. Upper 20s maybe? I like the fact that Chattanooga won't be all that used to weather like that.

A sour note -- Concord Monitor story just posted says Owens has a torn ACL and left the field "with what appears to be a season ending injury". Particularly sad given that this is his senior year. It also says UNH had 6 sacks in Fordham's first 9 offensive plays. Yikes! Kaplan was a beast.

North Dakota State scored in the final minute to edge South Dakota State. Villanova also came from behind in the 4th quarter to beat Liberty. So two close calls for two heavy favorites.

And I still worry about our kicking game. Three missed extra points in four periods (2 today). I'm old enough to remember when UNH lost a 1976 (championship? semi-final?) game to Montana by -- wait for it -- missing an extra point in the final minute of regulation. Games will of course be even harder from here on out, and that part of the offense will be key. Maybe we've changed kickers (?), but the radio announcer said today's field goal was "the first of the season". W T F?

An alternative perspective is that UNH was lively, speedy, and outplayed BC on Friday night and the reverse was true on Saturday night.

Would totally agree...I can give BC props for putting together a good game but without the ENG it was a 3-2 game. Not the same effort throughout the game as the night before there is no question. I'd like to say more about the article but think I will leave it at that...

Actually, I was a week ahead of myself as far as the Friday thing so I'll be at Cowell Friday night.

I know this is the equivalent of touching the third rail on this thread, but I hope if any UNH fans are debating between a UNH football national quarterfinal round game at home and a meaningless men's hockey game in Manchester between two sub par teams (my apologies to Hockey Ref and her pom poms..) that at least temporarily, folks will come out to back Coach McDonnell and the football Cats. The crowd yesterday was respectable given the weather, but as snively has pointed out, Friday is looking like perfect football weather in Durham. It would be nice to see this state get behind it's flagship football team. Okay...soapbox is now stowed.

Agreed snivley, the kicking game is a concern. It's a mystery why the kickers on this team are a coin toss on an extra point even, much less a chip shot field goal. Let's hope no game comes down to a must make FG or PAT. While I don't recall the 1976 game against Montana State, I do however, remember the heartbreaking loss to the same Montana State team in 2011 which was also lost because of a potential game tying extra point that clanked off the upright in the last seconds sealing the win for the Bobcats. Ugh...I need to stop doing that....bad karma.....

I agree the kicking game ( excluding the punting which is very good) is scary. Props to Prasky for hitting the field goal replacing Breda. UNH opts for the 2 pt conversion often. Too bad about Owens. Dalton Crossan is very good though.

A night game Friday in December at the Dungeon should be a blast!! Those southern boys are in for rude awakening!!

That's the spirit e.cat! I would be going to that one as well but it's my hubby's Christmas party and I have no choice. Thank God for Twitter feeds. And right now he may go to the fball game so hey it's his loss haha. Seriously I am thrilled for the football team and those who follow them..wish them the best! And one other thing to set the record straight it's not always a UNH hockey love fest; I'm not blind to the teams shortcomings and you'd be surprised at what comes out during games lol. Still I do my best to be a positive fan. Onward 'Cats!

Bummer, as I will miss both games. Assuming that weather is ok for departure from Logan, I leave at 4:05 pm Friday for arrival 76 hours later at McMurdo Station (Antarctica), via LAX, Sydney, and Christchurch (lots of layovers, but still 30 hours of flight time). I should be able get this weekend's results before five weeks of Internet fast. Bentley students got international attention this fall when they went on a semi-Internet weekend fast from social media for an IT course (they still used their computers for homework, etc.). Some of them, and their families, were really stressed after 48 hours. Insert the wide-eyed, open-mouth smiley here.

Funny that you mention palm trees, ecat, as on my only other trip to the Big Sheet in 1976, we had refueling stops for our C141 Starlifter in Hawaii and Samoa (Pago Pago).

Safe travels 65...that is a long journey to McMurdo. I don't know if going commercial, atleast to Auckland, beats the old Starlifter or not. Maybe more room on the 141 to move around? Anyway, if you haven't read it, see if you can grab a copy of "Endurance" by Alfred Lansing before you go. It's an appropriate book considering your destination. It's an incredible account of survival will help eat up some of those hours in transit.

Weather forecast for Friday night is temps in the low 30s and rain/snow showers. Gotta think UNH won't even be aware of the weather at kick off. The Mocs might be coming out with the long sleeve Under Armor and putting on the warming capes on the sideline.

Tell me hockey peeps about the rationale of not running your best guys on the "top line"....sure they come right in (am speaking of Willows, Fogele and Porturalski) but just a question / discussion point. Eventually we had Sorkin, Goumas, Willows (getting nostalgic here, sigh) and that was pretty much that. Seemed to take just about this amount of time too in establishing that as I recall. Not trying to break up the football reverie but am just curious; have we yet to establish a "top line"? Love the others believe me but to me, they ain't it. Kelleher could easily play up there as well. Does it make that much difference WHEN a line comes in as long as they play well together and are effective? Of course you'd have to ask the coach and there's prob a ton of reasons why / how a line is put together and when they go out, but, is it always your best on the first line? Surely Jack Eichel doesn't play 2nd line..and neither "should" Matty Willows. Some musings on an otherwise hockeyless Monday.
