Re: UNH Wildcats 2014/2015 - Wait 'Til Next Year!!!

Just received a video from the Alfond looks like DT has the nod for tonight awaiting line charts to verify FWIW dept..

Sorry to hear you guys had a lousy streaming experience were you with the UMaine or UNH? No matter as the result was the same, sigh.

Too many penalties usual contributions not there tonight. Our usual zone clearing problems and I'll leave it at that. Oh and so much for my sweep prediction...!

And, now Ty Rone has come back down to Earth, so I am fine with an every other game rotation the rest of the way. UMass tied Mac tonight, so the Minutemen really want out of HEA cellar, which is still up for grabs.

Wow. That didn't take long. Air came out of the DT balloon faster than a New England Patriots' football.

I'd hate to share a foxhole with some of you guys

haha good one Felger... guess that proves the point made about 'what have we gotta lose" by making sure our GK's play, play, and play some more the rest of this season. Except for the last 8 or so minutes in the 3ed, was disappointed the 'Cats didn't play with the sustained "urgency" they talked about during the week. We had little to no second chances on rebounds/quality shots it seemed that I'm amazed we put in 4. Was hoping Downing would hit his mark but his game was off (imho). Missing Brett P and who knows when he'll be back with his chest injury.

I'm pretty sure he was quite nervous and got 0 help in 2nd period.

I was going to post something cynical, but what's the point. Cats win tonight. Another weekend split. And the beat goes on. And the beat goes on.....

Most likely! Can't imagine what that must've been like for a young goalie stepping out into that atmosphere! Kudos to Maine for putting together a complete game. You are so right about that second period: penalities (2 Cats with 2 in the same period?), yada, yada. No help in the 2nd? Story of our season, but , to be fair, just read the Bangor Daily News on the game and it didn't occur to me that we played 4 freshman and a sophomore on D last night with Pesce out. Edit: that isn't right as Quast is a Jr.? Still...some missing elements. Onto tonight...

Methinks McKenna should stop hanging around the stats geeks in his organization, and *maybe* he just might become something more than a 30-something career AHL goaltender with barely 20 NHL games as a 3rd goalie.

If I was one of his Portland teammates, I'd be telling McKenna they could guarantee an even better record if he held the opposition to two or less goals per night. Just sayin' ...

I think he's got five shutouts this year, tops in the AHL!!
He was called up by the Arizona Coyotes January 21st!!

My video feed was perfect last night. It was actually quite good. What was not good was watching UNH flail around in the second period. Between the penalties and weak play both shorthanded and 5-on-5, it's no wonder Tirone was under siege. He made some good stops but also could have been better on at least one of the goals. UNH hung in there in the third and made it interesting for a little while at the end but … another road loss. This part of the Umile era so reminds me of the late stages of the Holt era. Some good players, jut not enough of them.

Re: UNH Wildcats 2014/2015 - Wait 'Til Next Year!!!

BTW, I always wondered what became of those hideous third jerseys UNH used to wear.

Then I switched on NESN last night and see they sold them to Lowell.

Re: UNH Wildcats 2014/2015 - Wait 'Til Next Year!!!

Here's a fun question to ask for any long-time UNH fans (and those who relish in research ;))...Can anyone recall a time, at this point in the winter sport season, where the basketball team (11-9) had a better record than the hockey team (8-13-2)? Anyone? Bueller? ;):eek:

Seriously hideous, although the bits of red and blue make them better than UNH's third jerseys. PC wore home sweaters at Tsongas to compensate for the dark UML alternate sweater(?). I recall poor third sweater results for the 'cats which was certainly the case for UML last night.

Off the top of my head I'm thinking it might have happened in 1995-96 (first year the Whittemore Center was open.) Hockey really struggled that year and basketball had been pretty good for a couple seasons prior to that. But I couldn't swear to it.

EDIT: Just looked it up, and it appears it didn't happen that year.

My point was that if Tirone had been able to steal the game for the Cats last night, Umile might have had to think longer about an every other game rotation. I do not have TV, so listened to the radio guys, who listed three keys for UNH at the beginning of the game: 1) Tirone would need to remain cool with the deafening UMO fans nearly over his head for the first and third periods, 2) Cats would need to keep Shore in check, and 3) Cats youthful D-men would need to play strong without Pesce. Seems that Tirone did well as far as the crowd noise was concerned, especially in the first period. But, sounds like the second two keys were too much to overcome. It was amazing to hear Downing's shot clang off the post on the radio. or was it crossbar? Radio guys had lots of great things to say about Willows' play last night also.
