Re: UNH Wildcats 2014/2015 - Wait 'Til Next Year!!!

I like Saturday's lines. Viewed through the blue tinted shades, the first line has potential to be a top HEA line if the freshman progress. Next year for sure if we can find a 5th year for Willows. ;) More importantly I can go bullish in the Eiserman phenom market again. Downing and Kelleher could produce quite nicely with hard working Thrush. Correale and Gaudreault are both solid 3rd liners, not sure Hill is a fixture there. I'd like to see more production from Smith, perhaps only because he wears Trevor's number, but he has his moments. Opponents will want to keep their heads on a swivel when they are in the corners vs. MacDonald and Camper.

Arghh I so hated to miss Saturday's game what did we run for lines? On another note Grayson D got the "Warrior" HE award for his 4 point game. Was so glad to hear he had a great night as well as goals for Cleland and Quast...
And I guess it's kind of nice to see a HE team in the number 1 spot again this week in the polls...'member it was just two short years sgo we sitting in number 1 this month as I vaguely recall. Then..never mind! Feeling snarky I guess😝

All starting line ups can be found on College Hockey News site for each game. Catch up with all of you in late January.

To be clear:

-It absolutely does appear that the victim lied. A careful reading of the eyewitness testimonies, and of the glaring discrepancies in the victim's own statements, along with even the most cursory review of the other evidence, strongly supports this conclusion.

-No one to my knowledge has said anything critical of the way the police handled their duties.

-Fosters printed information that was completely untrue. Presumably this was an error and not a willful misrepresentation of the facts, but that doesn't excuse them from the responsibility to report on the outcome of court proceedings accurately and without bias.

-No one has faulted the UNH investigation. It arrived at the proper conclusion.

-No one has faulted Coach Umile, though in my opinion Casey DeSmith should have been allowed to return to the team once it was determined that he was not responsible for harming anyone. This is the coach's decision, though, and has to be respected.

-Casey DeSmith has indeed been honest throughout this entire process, and true to his character, immediately took responsibility for everything that he did on the night of the incident.

You may choose to ignore or make jokes about this information, GoUNH, but it doesn't make it any less true. I would hope that any real UNH fan would recognize the service that this young man has given to the university and would at least be willing to look at the facts when sitting in armchair judgment of him.

That both the school and the criminal justice system came to the same conclusion about the accusation made against Casey DeSmith should tell any fair-minded person everything he or she needs to know about what really happened that night.

Just so you are aware FWIW department the number and website you list to get a copy of the police records you cite was for Durham NC not Durham NH. Guess I'll do my own due diligence...😉. Also in your reply you call the young woman a victim...didn't know /think you felt that way about her. To me there is more than one victim in this matter...

EDIT So I just got off the phone with the Durham NH police dept and they told me that unless I was CDS himself or his attorney that in no circumstances could I have a copy of that report. And they would never fax said report due to confidentiality. Thought as much and 'nuff said. As Dr. Spock would say ...fascinating.

Freedom of Information Act? What are the police officers doing is public record in Massachusetts and most states...

HockeyRef, did you see the poll on the Union Leader website today?

Re: UNH Wildcats 2014/2015 - Wait 'Til Next Year!!!

Ironic that the Durham PD in North Carolina will send you copies of police reports on request, but the one in the “Live Free of Die” state won’t.

I should have put the word “victim” in quotation marks. Too much typing lately. It was certainly not a Freudian slip. Having said that, though, I am not completely unsympathetic to the complainant’s situation. I’m sure that wasn’t the way she planned to end her Saturday night when she went out that evening. And she will have to live with the knowledge of what her 911 call ultimately led to for the rest of her life, which is a form of punishment in and of itself.

I agree that there were multiple victims in this situation, as there usually are when alcohol is involved. I just hope that people – and especially young people – will learn from the mistake that Casey made when he didn’t control his intake of alcohol.

Re: UNH Wildcats 2014/2015 - Wait 'Til Next Year!!!

No but I'll check it out...what's it in reference to?

Just saw it ...fascinating.

Disappointing. But not surprising. The public has been misled about what happened the night of the incident from the beginning -- and has been misled about the results of the criminal proceedings, as well. If all I had to go on was what has been reported in the press, I'd vote no, too.

Flight from Christchurch to McMurdo boomeranged (could not land because of weather) yesterday, and flight outright cancelled today. So, I get to follow UNH hockey for another day. :-)

Yeah huh? Funny how that is re those police reports...obviously you have a vested interest in the matter so I will continue to assume how you got access to them and could name drop Kevin G and Hannah F. as eye witnesses. Which honestly I won't lose any sleep over as we are trying to have a hockey season here. I realize I brought it up again today so my bad fellow board members. Truth of the matter is this will be with us regardless and here's hoping the boys are focused on their second half of the season. I hope they have a restful and relaxing break with their families.

And if things weren't fascinating :p enough regarding this story as I typed this note a car pulls up next to me and theres a big number 29 decal on the passenger door...Sigh. Must be a NASCAR fan I'd post the pic I took of it to this board but have no clue how to do it! Peace Out you guys....Sonar..LOA in action?

It was a sweet play for sure. RJ Harris is a special player.

So...he's a wide receiver, right? How am I doing! :p ;)

ps what is that chalk thing they do; is it like our one time fish throw? excited for the game!

I'm sure that last thought is something that's occurred to Coach Umile a few times in the aftermath of this incident, and shouldn't be underestimated as a (the?) reason why he made the decision he made.

It appears that would be the case with arrest records ( http://www.gencourt.state.nh.us/rsa/html/VII/106-B/106-B-14.htm ), but police investigatory files ARE subject to FOIA unless it can be shown that releasing the documents would
Code:
a. Interfere with enforcement proceedings;
b. Deprive a person of a right to a fair trial or an impartial adjudication; 29
c. Constitute an unwarranted invasion of privacy.18 (The statutory exemption for invasion of privacy will be strictly construed. Mans v. Lebanon School Board, 112 N.H. 160 (1972));
d. Reveal the identity of a confidential source, and in the case of a record compiled by a law enforcement authority in the course of a criminal investigation or by any agency conducting a lawful national security investigation, confidential information furnished only by a confidential source;
e. Reveal investigative techniques and procedures;
or
f. Endanger the life or physical safety of any person.

In addition, court records are a matter of public record, for more on obtaining those go here http://www.courts.state.nh.us/sitewidelinks/faqindex.htm#COURT RECORDS

RJ Harris ranked #1 in receiving yardage in FCS this season with 1483 yards.

Re: UNH Wildcats 2014/2015 - Wait 'Til Next Year!!!

Fosters reported statements from the Police investigation, and it appears they added a footnote to the article to reflect that. Since you are so eager to place blame elsewhere, you will have to point at the police and the victim. A diversion agreement in no way proves innocence, only if he satisfies the agreement will charges be dropped. That sounds like a pretty sweet deal for the accused, the smart thing to do would be to simply let it go.

Re: UNH Wildcats 2014/2015 - Wait 'Til Next Year!!!

If what Foster's reported is what actually happened in court, you might be right. Unfortunately, the article was chock-full of errors and was written in a completely biased way -- as most of their articles about this incident have been. Their attempt to "correct" things with a footnote has only dug them into a deeper hole. And to make matters worse, the Foster's articles have been widely quoted all over the country and taken as gospel by a lot of people. Including, apparently some people here. You can expect those errors to be corrected, at which point you may take a very different view of things.

In the meantime, one question still remains. Why is it that so many people are so eager to think the worst of this young man, whom even his accuser called "the nicest person in the world" -- AFTER the incident?

The really smart thing to do would be to take whatever any NH media outlet reports with many grains of salt and wait for all the facts to come out before spouting off.
