Re: UNH Wildcats 2013-14 Season Thread

So did I hear right? Umile calls a time out with 25 seconds left in the game being down by two goals???

Re: UNH Wildcats 2013-14 Season Thread

UNH losing the SOG battle and the game. UNH looks like they have the bus legs. Ugly:(

 Looks like UNH *won* the SOG's. Doesn't that mean the 'Cats outplayed 'em & should've won?

;)

Seriously though ... how do you come out flat at home against a Top 10 opponent, when you're riding a 4 game winning streak??

It's challenging to come up with positive thoughts after tonight's debacle. Thank goodness UNH isn't in the ECAC any more.

Just wondering but were you at the game tonight? (Not trying to sound like a jerk just honestly wondering) I don't really think they came out flat. They generated some good scoring chances and hit the cross bar. Union was very good and could get the puck out of their zone very fast. UNH's D frusterated me a bit (specially on the 3rd Union goal) but I wouldn't say the team came out flat.

Perhaps not flat, but thought they looked awfully disorganized.

So is Kelleher really so delicate he can't take the rigors of the second line? Parkhurst said something like that a while ago. Noticed that in the third when they clearly needed more O he got more ice, and not with the rest of the fourth line.

Re: UNH Wildcats 2013-14 Season Thread

Tonight's game just clarified what we have known all season. This team, while they can score goals and win games Simply. Is. Not. Good. Enough. It doesn't matter whether they start the game fast or flat. I'm not at all saying that they are a horrible team....but after tonight's game, they are 1-7 against the current Top 10, and this is hurting them. A .500 record at home at this point in the season is quite frankly, inexcusable. Blame the "Scheduling Gods" I guess. :p ;)

Time to be realistic about this team with the remaining eleven games left on their schedule....

Re: UNH Wildcats 2013-14 Season Thread

What would the score have been if Vecchione played, without mono?

Positives: UNH won SOG rather handily over Dutchmen, as noted by Chuck, of course, and UNH got back to No. 1 in SOS.

Negative: UNH dropped down to tie for 16th in PWR with current National Champion, Vlae.

I will totally agree with disorganized. Kelleher had the flu but has to be all better by now. Hopefully they will make adjustments and will come out strong. Union is a good team and we really weren't that bad last night.

I was at the game;) Up until the point I posted it was 3-0 Union and the SOG's were Union 21/UNH 20. Give Union credit they absolutely took it to UNH. I contend from that point on Union backed off a bit and UNH then won the all important SOG battle:)

Well Scott I think you just about clarified what I had been thinking about on the ride home. Hard realization I suppose but basically, that's the reality of it unless we show otherwise tonight and in the remaining games. Gotta beat the best...to be the best as they say. Here's to a better night for our 'Cats!

Kelleher scores on that breakaway and it could have been a different result for UNH. Score the first goal tonight and keep the pedal to the metal and UNH wins. I heard all week that UNH was going to treat this series like it was the playoffs. Well talk is cheap. Union played playoff hockey and UNH played like it "was some throw away game up in Rochester"!!

Good point my ecat friend! That's the biggest difference here; Union brought it..UNH did not. Someone close to the team told me they expected it to be a "long year" but they were hoping "for the best". Welp. That's just what's happening. Giving credit to Union on taking care of business. That's what a top 10 team does. Geeze I hope that the powers that be don't feel this team has exceeded expectations. I don't even want to believe that on a bad day. Talked to a couple of long time seasons tix holders and they thought this team had the makings for great stuff despite graduation losses. Just wanna see the boys rise to the occasion which is what you seasoned vets have been saying here all along...:o

Re: UNH Wildcats 2013-14 Season Thread

Union just has has more hockey talent. In addition, their coaches must have scouted UNH well because they anticipated and interrupted many breakouts ...... UNH, not so much. I cannot fault the effort expended by the UNH players on the ice .... and did not think they came out flat for the first period.

I thought that getting beyond the solstice would pick up my spirits .... and it did. However, it tends to get counterbalanced when I think about the future of UNH hockey.
After all these many years i just get the sense that the "atmosphere" known as UNH Hockey is "tired". The newness of the Snively days are obviously gone, the newness of the Krog era is gone.

Granted there is a "weight associated with great expectations" but I suspect that most people who have followed the Wildcats over the years would like once again to experience that positive weight. As for now the weight is just .... well it is wearisome.

Union is a fantastic team. If they were in Hockey East they'd be right up there with BC as far as talent. Beat them tonight

Good post Sonar. I agree that UNH did not come out flat. IMO it was more a case of Union dictating the pace of the game and taking it to UNH. .

I also agree that the "bloom is off the rose". Chuck calls it complacency which I have been reluctant to accept but sadly I am becoming more and more jaded I think:(

Complacency, tiredness, doing things "same ol', same ol'.....whatever or however you want to define it, someone needs to kick the Athletic Dept. in the pants and start making some changes.

EDIT: Even Captain Knodel admits that they came out flat in the first period: http://www.fosters.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20140118/GJSPORTS_01/140119273/-1/FOSSPORTS

Knodel is a stand up guy and his comments reflect that. I do now agree that some changes need to be made. At least bring in some young assistants!!
