UNH Wildcats 2013-14 Season Thread

Re: UNH Wildcats 2013-14 Season Thread

I would rather be the hunted than the hunter so I guess in that sense the positioning (3rd place) is good. But UNH has already played half of its HE games, while several of the other contenders haven't. For example Maine is just one point back with three games in hand. Lowell is only two back with four games in hand. The schedule is certainly a help, with a majority of games at home and the lower half of the league for opponents. But then again the 'Cats couldn't take advantage of a similar slate down the stretch last year.

I too expect to see them with home ice, but the glass can also be seen as half empty.

UNH has played more HE games than any other team. Yes, they are 5-5-0, but all 5 of the losses were against the top three teams - UML, PC and BC. They have swept NU and UMass, plus the win vs. PC. They still have 2 each at home vs. UVM and ND, home/home vs. Maine, 2 @ Merrimack, and home/home vs. BU. I can see them taking two from both UVM and Merrimack and splitting with Maine, ND and BU. That would give them a 12-8-0 record. Is that good enough to make the top five and get a bye? I would also hope that they pay attention to their OOC games in January, all at home (well Dartmouth is at the Verizon). Union and UNO are ranked right now. It would behoove the Wildcats to have a very solid January. And at least one win down in Florida would be nice. Overall they are not in the toilet, but they have to take care of business against teams that are their equal or less. Not sure of where they will wind up but the road map is pretty clear.

Re: UNH Wildcats 2013-14 Season Thread

I'm only surprised the word "synergy" hasn't featured prominently in UNH's press releases to date.

In the meantime, students at UNH Manchester and UNH Law School (Franklin Pierce @ Concord) yawn with indifference at the prospect of this wonderfully "inclusionary" action undertaken on their behalf.

I envision this "mission to capture UNH's unified identity" has only just begun, and we've now just "embarked on a journey of discovery" which will see the logo "transform in an evolutionary process" to something that is even more "inclusive" in the future.

Kinda gives you goosebumps, doesn't it.

Is the bright blue color also a concession to the "unified identity"? It certainly isn't UNH BLUE ...............

Re: UNH Wildcats 2013-14 Season Thread

Should be a very interesting second half...looking for consistent play and hopefully our forwards find the back of the net as they are most capable of doing! How likely is it that Brett Pesce will get selected for the World Junior gig..and if so..where does that leave the 'Cats D wise? Of course I hope he does get selected...great honor for him!

Can everyone imagine how unbearable this thread is likely to become in the days before and after THAT series?

Re: UNH Wildcats 2013-14 Season Thread

I believe I heard Coach say that he's pretty assured of making the team and therefore miss 4 games, around the UNO series.....

Well, we just played a series against Johnny Gaudreau, who was supposed to be a Wildcat, too, had it not been for our stiff admissions policy, right?

I am more concerned about the Dartmouth game, especially after last year in Hanover. Speaking of Dartmouth, Nick Johnson playing for the Bs tonight in Calgary.

I hope that Pesce makes the team. Although, if he goes UNH will somehow have to figure out how to win games in his absence. I'm sure BC (4 players) Michigan, Notre Dame (3 players) Denver, Minnesota, BU, Colorado College and Minnesota State (2 players) are working on doing just that. There are also another 3 teams that may lose a player. There is time to plan ahead and make adjustments if necessary. It would be great if he makes the team.

One of the best gags on this board

May I ask why you don't think that was ever an option for Gaudreau to go to not only UNH, but another HE school? Do you have evidence or is it just because you're a BC fan? Not being wise. Serious question.

Re: UNH Wildcats 2013-14 Season Thread

Finally ... further on the issue of "complacency", it was noted in the USCHO game recap (well done BTW) that the game was delayed for a few minutes due to the late arrival of the UNH team bus. Really???  How does that happen? I mean, traffic in and around Boston, shocking, you never see that coming. "Don't worry boys - they can't start the game without us." Putting aside the sarcasm, that's downright embarrassing for a so-called elite D-1 program in the best conference in the country. If those travel demands are too onerous, we can always try to schedule in St. Anselm's and Plymouth State next season.

12 years later, not much has changed:

http://www.uscho.com/recaps/2001/02/16/three-goal-third-period-rally-ignites-bc/

"The start of the game was delayed 15 minutes due to traffic problems that UNH faced on its Friday evening commute south to Boston."

Don't worry - it's that whole smarmy "We're BC and we're better than you" vibe. Nothing new, nothing surprising. Seems like late bus arrivals from Durham aren't the only things that haven't changed over the last dozen or so years at Chestnut Hill.

Well, BC'ers may be a bit smarmy, as you say, but I don't know anyone on the BC side who thinks his chit don't stink anywhere near like you do. ;) :p

Just callin' 'em like I see 'em.

Chuck I don't think some of the posters scoffed at gaudreau being seriously interested in unh. It's the idea that the only reason he isn't wearing a unh jersey is because admissions wouldn't take him that seems a little far fetched. That and nothing ever came out in regard to what schools he was looking at.

JD, c'mon, when it comes to what happens with UNH hockey, unfortunately nothing is far fetched. Not saying it happened. Don't know. But with UNH nothing surprises me. :(
