UNH Wildcats 2013-14 Season Thread (Part 2)

So, after last night, MSU has won eight straight, but all against losing teams, including two each against Bemidji and Huntsville (yeah, I know, we lost to Mac). And, Colgate is now 4-3-2 in their last nine games, despite heroics with win over Quinnipiac and tie with Union (yeah, I know that we lost two to Union).

But, if we end up 21-17-1 (two wins against NU and a loss at the Garden), I will not feel badly that we backed into a low seed in the NCAAs if we should be so lucky, given the tough schedule and loss of TVR for the last few weeks.

not sure that's enough, with two wins puts us at 14, 15, maybe. However lose the next game in Boston and we are back to 17, 18 again.Need to win one in Boston.

Depends on what other teams do too, no:confused:

Hey I think UNH has been given a gift and hopefully they will capitalize on it! In the event we do make it to the Garden...who's the likely opponent? There must be a bracket out there? Like it's been said here it's sometimes better to be lucky..than good! (apologize for not remembering who said this...). And like others making it to the Garden with all the teams been through this year would be awesome..esp. for our Senior class. :D

their is a good probability UNH will face a PC or Lowell type. I say that because their will be one upset comming out of quarters . My guess ND , this will avoid a UNH Boston college matchup.Any team advancing above a four seed draws BC. If all favored teams win tonight BC draws ND, ouch

Re: UNH Wildcats 2013-14 Season Thread (Part 2)

It was Christmas break 1973. Warren Brown, a big power forward with great promise, died in the accident. Two of his teammates, Dave Bertollo and Jim Harvie, were injured. They were driving home to Ontario.

Charlie Holt gave them permission to leave for home after a game at BC. I was at that one, Gordie Clark scored the OT winner on a tip in from the high slot. This was during the "gas crisis" when the pumps weren't always full. The boys had a couple of extra gas cans unfortunately, they exploded leading to one death and, as I remember, Jim Harvie was severely burned in the accident. I don't think Charlie ever got over the loss. He talked about Warren Brown a lot, even several years later.

The teams that make it to the Garden get reseeded. 1 plays 4 and 2 plays 3. If the top 4 seeds remain as is it would be BC vs UNH and UML vs PC.
As 82 says, if any upsets occur, and UNH makes it to the Garden, that team would be the 4 seed and UNH would get bumped up. Who knows, BC could get TKO'd in the qtrs. Wouldn't that be a hoot;)

Hopefully they will! I am on the optimistic side of neutral given the opportunities we have squandered this year and how we've made several goalies look better than they are. Witt is no slouch (.935%, 2.27 GAA). Northeastern is talented, tough, has something to prove. I hope the 'cats come out on fire offensively and DeSmith stands on his head, but this series could (should?) go 3 games.

If the home teams win tonight then BC/ND!

Oh yes e.cat; beyond a hoot! :p Won't hold my breath on it but who'd a thought UMass would take Vt to the end? UVM fans weren't pleased with their play until late in the second but I gotta give the Minutemen their due (and being the fair minded person I am haha) I wish Vt. well on their quest. I think this will be exciting; I'm enjoying my first ever "plugged in" end of season. :D

Aw, this is such a sad story; it must've been very hard as fans to have been a part of this...:( One thing I hear about hockey over and over is how teams become a "family". Warren lives on through UNH hockey!

If ND and Maine win tonight, maybe ND can beat BC in the Quarters, as they did at Conte in OT last weekend. So, maybe UNH, Maine, UVM, and ND at the Garden. I would buy that ticket.

Me too Snively65. What a war that would be. Could happen. Who knows, right?

That's about as likely as BB35 reinstating Coach McCloskey - with a full apology - in front of a capacity crowd at The Whitt next Friday night. Simply put - as wonderful as it would be IF it did happen that way, that's ... just ... not ... gonna ... happen. :(

Again - I hope I'm wrong, and I understand this is hardly going out on a limb - but the winner of the UNH-NU QF series will face BC in the HE semis, with Lowell and Providence battling it out in the other (late?) semifinal.

Not to throw cold water on your probable matchup, but didn't you have UNH at Maine for a play-in game? Sorry Chuck, but you are my contrarian indicator:)

Warm up the water, e.cat. :D If you look back to week before last on this thread a few pages back, you'll see I was on board (possibly the first, in fact) with UNH vs. NU as a QF match-up, although I'm not sure I had the 'Cats as the hosts.

I really REALLY do hope UNH avoids BC in the semis. But (1) they have to get there first by taking care of NU, and (2) I don't see any of the top three losing two out of three in their own barns next weekend. To expect an upset of any of those three is wishful thinking, but after the goings-on last weekend, sometimes wishful thinking works out OK. :)
