Re: UNH Wildcats 2013-14 Season Thread (Part 2)

While consistency of performance can understandably vary ... consistency of effort should never be an issue. And ESPECIALLY not in big games. You say "tale of the season" ... I say "tale of many seasons". :(

The New Hampshire, November, 1995

Preparing to play two games with Merrimack .........

“I’ve told the team that our challenge is to play consistently at a level the we have been at for the early part of the season, “ Umile said.

Results: UNH lost game one 2-4, and lost game two 2-5

The New Hampshire, February, 2014

Preparing to play two games with Merrimack ........

“I like the way we played our last game at BU, but that’s been a while now,” Umile said. “We all made a decision that we wanted to play, committed to it and hopefully we’ll do the same thing this weekend.”

Results: UNH lost game one 2-4, and game two is upcoming.

“When it becomes more difficult to suffer than to
change …. you will change.” Robert Anthony

Is it difficult yet?

well soon might be time to start a new thread , "can umile"

That subject becomes a yearly thread. Umile loves his salary. He loves ignorant alumni kissing his ring. He will love his pension. It will be his call when he departs. Until then, it's more of the same: mediocre seasons filled with inconsistent performances, results caused by poor preparation, a roller coaster ride of enthusiasm but a joy for the manic depressive. When Umile leaves, perhaps we can then see a new era of UNH hockey, drawing more talented recruits to Durham with a dynamic young head coach and filling The Whitt with fans finally following a program without yearly heartbreak.
Umile has had his run, and we know what to expect. He knows nothing more than Melrose and UNH, and has never been around a national championship team. He does not know what it takes from a coach's standpoint to get there and has shown he does not have the mental gear to figure it out. So, until he goes, this is the status quo.

What ring are they kissing?

At this rate, I'm not sure how much longer the "ignorant alumni" will even recognize who he is.

Seriously ... as great as he was, Coach Holt did not do his legacy any favors by staying on the job too long. Coach Umile hasn't taken this program that far down ... yet. But at this moment, it IS going in the wrong direction, has been sliding gradually in that direction for a decade now, and is probably closer to the bottom of the league than to the top at this very moment.

I'm not going to weigh in definitively until I see (for sure) if this team makes it to Boston or not. IF they don't - and the smart money has to be on "no" based on the evidence over the last 5 months - it will ensure that when the team reconvenes next Fall, there will be a grand total of zero (0) player-game's worth of Hockey East semifinals/finals experience on the entire UNH 2014-2015 roster.

That was unthinkable even five years ago. It is very close to becoming a very harsh reality, very soon.

Re: UNH Wildcats 2013-14 Season Thread (Part 2)

Is it possible to give up 20 shots in one period. Think its fair to say the team has given up on their coach

Un-effing believable. Yes, we knew they weren't prepared for game 1, but to get out-shot by a 4-1 margin IN THE FIRST PERIOD OF GAME 2???:mad:

This season can't end soon enough. This team has obviously given up.:mad:

Re: UNH Wildcats 2013-14 Season Thread (Part 2)

SOG's are how 33-7 in MC's favor midway through the second period.

It's so sad, I'm actually laughing over it. GO DESMITH!!

Re: UNH Wildcats 2013-14 Season Thread (Part 2)

Well holy crap.....

Pesce scores a PP goal to tie the game, then Speelman scores 7 seconds later. 'Cats lead 2-1 on 9 shots.

Re: UNH Wildcats 2013-14 Season Thread (Part 2)

I believe if all scores hold as is, you would finish 4th

I'm getting interested now. 3-1. Keep it going Cats:)

Wow the past 10 of this period were wild with back to back goals and then the third. TvR is walking on that foot too still with crutches but putting pressure on it. Kelleher out here too. Couple of great saves by DeSmith. Welp lots of penalties and animosity out there too makes this a feisty match. SOG...well we know how that goes! The third should be interesting! Hang on ''Cats!

Sounds like Mc is in GOON mode now....
