Re: UNH Wildcats 2013-14 Season Thread (Part 2)

Hey, it was a stretch but I knew you would be good with a BC upset. It's all good my man. Hey Snively 65's idea of a get together between games friday sounds good. Let's do it.

I'm hoping to be in town on Friday, so count me in. You may be the only poster I've met before from the current group (apologies to any others I may have lost track of :o ) - and that was way back at the St. Paul FF in 2002, I think? - so that would be fun. Let's see what snively65 can put together as our cruise director, and if it doesn't work out, we can blame him. :p ;)

I'm on board with that. You're in charge for where to meet and greet:)

I would suggest a beer stand that sells better brews, but not having been to the Gahden since we got bounced by Merrimack, not sure what the beer stand layout is these days.

Sounds like a good plan, unh1982. Something to consider when looking for seats to buy. One year I was able to get mid-priced seats on the level that includes access to the Boston Sports Museum, which was really cool.

years past , after first game was over moved down to mid level , so get a lower price ticket and move down.

Board is very active tonight. Remember the good old days when this type of activity flourished when UNH made the Frozen Four. Now the thread goes viral with UNH making the Hockey East semis. Times and expectations have changed.

True , thing of the past , remember how good the woman's hockey team used to be . Lets hope we are moving in same direction.

Hey I'll take it! Wasn't the cleanest victory. But as for that call the the refs supposedly botched I sit directly behind the scorers booth and there was absolutely no way they could tell. Video picture is fuzzy, angle isn't great and both sticks go up. Call on the ice was no goal and there was just not enough evidence from the video they had to overturn it. Benedetto had them rewind it and zoom in different ways probably 30 times. He also called in Hansen and the Linesman Millea to watch the vid and to tell him what their view of it was. Either way I'll take it as I wasn't really sure how Knodel's goal they took back was any worse than the goal for NU that they allowed with the guy in the crease earlier

Enjoy your trip to Boston wherever you end up pre-game. At the game, pay particular attention to Brett Pesce,he has been amazing snce TVR's injury. His poise and decision making with the puck has been top notch for a 19 year old at his position. Without him stepping up the way he has,I doubt that UNH would be at the TD Garden this weekend! GO BLUE !!!!

UNH radio guys said that probably neither one of them should have been waived off.

Whatever... Works for me ;)

Joey B. can't be a happy camper this morning -- first time in Hockey East history that no Boston team has made it to the Garden . Can't be good for attendance.

Now just imagine if Maine and Vermont had also gotten in. Us Old Timers can remember 13,909 virtually every night (right Chuck?)

I'm sure the commissioner is thrilled. He has to be. Short-sighted thinking would mean he would be dismayed with a smaller gate, but in the big picture, if there are different teams at the event, then the perception is there's a level playing field, and the teams who make it aren't taking it for granted (see UNH just a few years ago) ... then all the better for the league, no?

Great opportunity for UNH to bring a big crowd, turning the semis into a virtual home-away-from-home game.

You hit the nail on the head there, scoreboard. Have to admit I was disappointed (but not surprised) to see the drop-off in support on these boards for UNH when I started actively posting again. The ramifications of the program's gradual slide were (and still are?) self-evident, but it's going to take some time to turn the tide. This past weekend was a nice half-step in the right direction, and hopefully there will be some additional exciting hockey to be played to bring some of the sidelined support back under the UNH tent.

But yeah, the activity on the boards last night was a pretty regular occurrence "back in the day", and it was nice to see. :)

It would great to meet up with some of you folks. Have a passing acquaintence with Chuck and just met e.cat a couple of weeks ago at the 99 before one of the Merrimack games. Although the Sports Museum level is a good thought, there are two negatives. First, the Garden folks won't let you in there unless you have club seats or a box and second (and more importantly to me), the beer selections there aren't the greatest. I was at the Beanpot this year and saw a couple of beerstands selling what I would prefer but not sure where they are exactly. Is there a way to get that kind of information?

Re: UNH Wildcats 2013-14 Season Thread (Part 2)

Aren't the vast majority of Finals attendees from the schools themselves, or has that changed? Are there really a lot of folks in the immediate Boston area that like college hockey so much that they'll shell out the money for tickets regardless of who's playing? Plus you have all the BC/BU/NU alums in the immediate area who haven't yet bought tickets who probably give a rat's *** who wins.

Or are you talking about better attendance during the regular season, given that more games will be seen as competitive? I'm not all that sure about that one either -- who's going to be pumped up to watch UConn come into town? The smaller the league, the more rivalry matchups there are, I would think. And of course it keeps getting bigger (granted, I think the ECAC had something like 17 pre Hockey East).

In any event, as you say, oughta be more UNH fans there than those from any of the other schools (smile).

Or, I believe it was NU's second goal, when an NU player rung his arm around a UNH player's neck at the blueline completely taking him out of the play with NU going on to score seconds later.
