Re: UNH Wildcats 2013-14 Season Thread (Part 2)

UNH tied for 16 in power, weird thou with win over providence next week doesn't move up at all..losing last night hurt big time.

Who cares - UNH is going to Boston, enjoy the experience, and let's see what happens. They match up better with PC than with UML, so that's another (minor) break waiting to be exploited.

The 'Cats are now playing with house money from here on out in my book ... let's face it, this is not a D-1 championship level team (or IF they somehow could pull that off, they'll be making Hollywood movies about it before the decade is out), and if they don't qualify for the D-1 tourney as an at-large, they only have themselves to blame for any number of "nights off" against beatable teams.

Carpe diem 'Cats!!! :) :) :)

On the nosey Chuck! Enjoy the journey! We can play with anyone on any given day....and we can stink out the house....just like any team still playing, so let's enjoy this week and hopefully John Gilles will remember to honour his father's Alma Mater! Here that Bruce? Good luck Umile and the Wildcats!!

Disallowed goals. The planets aligning to get not only home ice but one of the worst teams in the tourney as the first round opponent. Help out of town to get PC instead of BC or UML in the sems. Wouldn't be at all surprised to see some cataclysmic event get them into the NCAAs.

As i've said before, better to be lucky than be good. The really frustrating thing is where was all this luck in those years when UNH actually had a legit shot to win it all.

I like e.cat's scenario best, so I am endorsing that. :-)

And, then we beat Union and da Gophers for our first NC, after cruising through the Northeast Regional.

Just to summarize, e.cat had ND in 3, PC In 2, UNH in 2, and UVM in 3. So, not too shoddy.

So, name the former Celtics coach who said: "the negativity on this thread sxcks"? More hints: "Louie Frigon is not walking through that door; Jason Krog is not walking through that door; and, Darren Haydar is not walking through that door. And, if they do walk through that door, they will be old and gray." :-)

Louis Frigon will be really gray ... not sure about the other two though.

Walking home from the game tonight I did not encounter as many ghosts as I have in the past ... my thanks to this years team for that .... enjoy the TD Garden.

They were out there lurking, though. The 'Cats did catch some breaks. But they capitalized. Kudos to them. :)

Hey Snively65, thanks for the props my friend:) Just back from the game and just finished my Irish/New England boiled dinner. Yummy!

Props also to Northeastern. They just would not quit. Bigger props to the cats because they didn't quit either. Very happy about our upcoming garden party. It's up for grabs UNH. Go get it!

PS. Snively, Rick Pitino will forever live in Boston infamy;)

Those ghosts will ALWAYS be lurking .... but I do plan on burning some sage just prior to the game next Friday.

UNH earned home ice in the quarters and had no control over who they would face. BC not earning a spot in the semi's has nothing to do with UNH luck. It has to do with ND knocking them out.

no but it is lucky unh doesnt have to face bc , or should say fortunate .

Re: UNH Wildcats 2013-14 Season Thread (Part 2)

FYI. Dave Strader and Brian Engbloom doing the Red Wings/Black Hawks game on NBCSN just congratulated UNH, ND, PC AND UML for making it to the Garden. Pretty cool to get national props like that from those guys.

Sonar, if you get to speak to one of those ghosts, could you ask her to give Noeth a proper haunting. For those of you who don't remember Noeth, he was the ECAC ref who effed over UNH in Aneheim!

Hey Ref. Thanks for your enthusiasm and optimism. Gotta stay positive, right? It feels better to me than the alternative. You are a good fan Ref. Hope you enjoy the Garden. First trip?

It's also fortunate they don't have to face UMass Lowell ... although it would've taken a BC win (expected) AND a PC loss (unexpected) in the QF's to have set that match-up in the semis. Personally, I'm hoping to see UNH vs. Lowell in the HE Finals. :) Not because I'm concerned about ND being a better team than UML ('cuz they aren't), but because I honestly cannot stand anything to do with ND.

I mean, if ND wasn't the school BC still wants to grow up to be someday, they'd have absolutely no value at all. :p

Re: UNH Wildcats 2013-14 Season Thread (Part 2)

Solid 3rd period by the 'cats. They did not sit on the lead, were aggressive, challenged for pucks, played hard in the corners and along the boards, made some hits. Willows had a great hit in the right slot in front of the NU goal and someone delivered a nice check on our defensive blue line resulting in an NU off side. Goumas really stepped up. I think 2 of his goals and Sorkin's were snipes. The smallest official attendance of the weekend, but the best crowd. A great way to end the Whitt season, especially for the seniors.

BC in 2 - don't pick against BC this time of year

When the college hockey season concludes I switch to picking stocks. Let me know...

Notre Dame likes Boston so much they painted their helmets to look like the State House. :D

Let's hope UML is able to take them out of their comfort zone. But I have to love the Irish for kicking BC out of theirs: the Hockey East semis.

(And wouldn't just the thought of a BC/ND matchup in the NCAAs make a lot of BC fans sick to their stomach?)

I'm really happy that these UNH players fought hard to get a chance to play in Boston (and again, full credit to NU for trying to do the same.) The underclassmen will gain from the experience, even if it's a quick one-and-out.
