UNH vs. Maine: The Border War, Part 3

Re: UNH vs. Maine: The Border War, Part 3

How did he get injured? He didn't play last night.

He isn't injuried, he's in the doghouse. He kicked the skates out from under BU's goalie last week and got a 1 game suspension. The first one that Hockey East has handed out since 2008. I think it is appropriate that he is sitting for an extra game - he can't be doing dumb stuff like that.

On a different note, the 4th ref is there now, he was held up by the weather.

The announcers just said undisclosed injury? Late scratch because of it

Re: UNH vs. Maine: The Border War, Part 3

It just isn't fun to watch Maine hockey anymore. Even if they have the lead you just know they will give up a goal with 38 seconds left.

Re: UNH vs. Maine: The Border War, Part 3

Gotcha. UNH radio announcers said they are impressed with Maine in the 2nd period, says Maine has UNH back on their heels.

Re: UNH vs. Maine: The Border War, Part 3

Can't believe Gus missed that, actually after watching him this year I do but...

Re: UNH vs. Maine: The Border War, Part 3

How are you going to give them that many chances? What a joke

Re: UNH vs. Maine: The Border War, Part 3

9:26, PPG --Lake Worth Florida's Kevin Goumas's 2nd ever. 3-2 UNH.

Re: UNH vs. Maine: The Border War, Part 3

Be nice if Maine actually put a pass on the stick instead of behind or in the skates

Re: UNH vs. Maine: The Border War, Part 3

They do seem to be trying hard tonight but you could see that 3rd goal coming as soon as the d hit a teammate in the dumper with a "clearing" pass and then spent the next 2 minutes with the puck on their sticks but somehow unable to make it cross that tricky blue line.

Missed the call, but UNH is 2/3rds of the way through a thus far ineffectual power play.

Re: UNH vs. Maine: The Border War, Part 3

Why is Block serving the penalty, if Maine scored after the call?
New rule this year. If you score on the delayed penalty, you still get the PP.

FWIW, I always thought this should be the rule. If you commit a penalty, it doesn't mean you didn't do something illegal just because the other team scores.

For an obvious example, if Team A gets a 2-on-1 break against Team B and Team B's second man back tomahawks Team A's 3rd man trailer to the ice to keep him out of the play, why should Team B going to the box depend on whether Team A scores?

What if you get caught up ice with your goalie pulled and your opponent busts out toward your empty net - should that give you free rein to lay out the guy next to you, unpunished?

The thinking under the traditional rule is that you've already scored your extra attacker goal -- why should you be allowed to score two EAGs for a single 2 minute offense?

Re: UNH vs. Maine: The Border War, Part 3

maybe timmy did the math...
the ONLY must win games from here on out are the Hockey east playoff games.
I do not think that even if Maine finishes without a loss they can get high enough in the pairwise to make the tournament.
there are only 3 games left that can help them, the rest of the games cannot raise their rpi
Every game is important from here on out to get home ice.

Am I understanding you OK here? It wouldn't matter if your opponent busted out toward your net if you were the team enjoying the delayed call -- the moment they touched the puck, the whistle would blow. And if you were stupid enough to commit an infraction yourself while enjoying a delayed call, you'd simply have matching penalties...

Re: UNH vs. Maine: The Border War, Part 3

Todd, thanks for the explanation...

But im with Snively. You already scored your EAG... now its likr double jeapoardy.

Re: UNH vs. Maine: The Border War, Part 3

Would be nice if we could win some faceoffs. Haven't seen the official stats, but it seems as though Maine has been winning at least two thirds of them this weekend.

The sort of thing that kills you come playoff time...
